That story actually got to me tbh 😢, it's a shame our RC hobby is pretty expensive,it was back in the day and still is now even though we're blokes with jobs now. Thanks to the grans, nans, grandads and parent's that noticed our passion and managed to buy us our first RC kit ❤,great video Glenn 👊👍
Hi Glen, I work in the plastics industry and polyethylene is notoriously difficult to paint. Basically it's difficult, but not impossible, to get paint to stick to it. What you can do is flame treat the material (literally with a blowtorch, but gently!) just before painting it. There is plenty of stuff online about this - Google is your friend! Polyethylene itself is a very durable material which probably makes it a great choice for a beginner buggy like this.
Thanks for sharing that email Glen, it really resonated with me. Back in the 80s I longed for an RC car of my own, then one morning on my birthday I woke up and went into my parents room to find my dad putting the finishing touches to a holiday buggy! I remember the feeling to this day, so happy. My eyes nearly popped out of my head and my chin nearly hit the floor. I said “what’s that!? Is it for me?!”. In terms of driving it was pretty bad so I moved on to other models over the years but I always hung on to the HB. Last year I finally dug it out of the loft and got it working again after probably more than 30 years. Memories flooding back. Priceless! Now I’ve just nearly finished building a DT-02 HB for my son, hoping to give him those same memories on his birthday morning. ❤
The holiday buggy was my first ever rc car. I brought it second hand for £25.00. I remember it costing roughly about £100, money that was way beyond my families budget. I saved up for ages and also purchased a Mardave Apache. This story brings back so many memories. I recently purchased the DT02 kit, which isn't quite the same, but it's near enough to make an old rc fan very happy.... im loving the re re models because now i can purchase the ones that were out of my grasp... happy memories
Love these stories ❤️ working class kids see egress or Avante but no chance of owning 1..... I got a FALCON in 88 but I loved that buggy probably more than if I had got an egress 😎 Memories and nostalgia Thanks for another great video Glenn 👌
I remember this is the first RC kit I ever saw. My mates older brother got it and let us watch him build it. We all had RTR things that were slow, brittle and you couldn’t use them in wet conditions. When we saw it run for the first time it blew our 10yr old minds. We both, to this day run RC cars. Great Video mate and awesome story behind your donation.
I've used two of these as project cars. I love them. I do wish they'd given us silver or grey wheels. I put the Nissan titan wheels on mine for a bit. I also wish they had shortened the arms to bring the wheels closer to the chassis. I think those two changes would bring this kit much closer to the heart of the original. I can't wait see what you do with it.
Hi Glenn great video very enjoyable. I have a NIB re re bought a couple of years ago now and my plan is this will be my first build since re engaging with the hobby.( when I can find some time) . My friend at school had the sand rover but couldn’t afford the radio gear for ages so we used to let it run down the road and chase after it before it crashed into the curb!! I remember this was around 81-82 and both holiday buggy and sand rover kits were £45.. I remember saving for months but ended up buying a mardave stockcar of another friend for £30. Happy times, I’m looking forward to seeing what you do to it. Best wishes and take care
I have only just got my first Tamiya as Im a nitro guy. I really wish I was more open minded when I lived in Singapore the Stargek Tamiya store there is huge and had everything but all I brought was paint. Now I have a new job and travel Asia Im off to Japan soon and taking and empty suitcase and will visit soem Tamiya shpos there as ther so cheap.
So as I’ve recently found your channel and enjoyed seeing the cars from my youth when I was happier and life seemed a little more simple.. So because of you I’ve decided to get back in to the hobby and have ordered myself the new Tamiya Porsche 911 gt3 992 on the TT02 chassis, I also ordered it with the upgraded ball bearings and all the other bits and bobs I need. Should be here next week and I’m looking forward to building it and knocking back the years a bit. I also want the bigwig to build and run but have had no luck trying to find a nib that I can afford. Cheers and keep up the vids. Thanks for the memories 😊
Glenn the body is paintable, you should be able to find a guide somewhere (in TamiyaClub forum). I think you have to blowtorch the body until the shine goes, then etch then paint. It's like trash can (wheelie bin over here in the UK!) material which makes it bendy, and tough. Ace looking cars though when they are done, just do something with the wheels! Drive nice too, on that flat wide chassis
There is also the Nissan Titan on the DT02 platform, picked one up to make my first 2wd Beetle (my first Beetle was on the TT02B). Found some 3d files and printed off shortened suspension arms to get the tread width correct for a Scorcher, might be worth looking at if you want a more original looking Holliday Buggy.
Hi Glen them memories of the model shops that sold planes, ships, boats , and helicopters that seemed totally amazing at the time and the car RC kits I was into boats to begin with my dad built Keilcraft kits of boats and I used to play with one in particular in my paddling pool I still have old movie film and the boat Then as I learned of Tamiya in my late teens and loved rallying I had to have the Quattro which was my first Tamiya then the Brat Wandering down memory lane it was great. Just a short tale for you as we all have. Love your Channels Glen and your work 😊
Very cool. I consider the dt02 the modern falcon chassis. Back in the day, they used the falcon chassis on quite a lot of different cars. Now, it is the dt02
These are a cool kit, Wish they would release the sand rover again would buy 1 or 2 tomorrow. There is a real vw base kit car buggy that was made it the 70s 80s called the stripper.
Amazed you didn't know about the body being made of wheelie bin plastic😂 Also try and lay the front shocks down and put some netting over the holes. Holiday buggy is now one of my favorites. So cool.
The Dt02 is a great platform and the HB is a cool looking kit. I have mine done up with CVA shocks and a GT tuned motor and it is a real blast! I also swapped out the drivers head for a Bob Ross head which just makes me laugh when I see it! The body does not like to be painted. There are methods of flame treating it to accept paint better but it is best left as is. They made it out of the soft and flexible plastic to make the body hold up better and not break so easily as it is one of their beginner models.
I put a Madcap repro shell on one of my DT-02 chassis, set up for carpet racing... Plus I have a Sand Viper, a Fighter Buggy GR Violet and a Nissan Titan... Great cars, fun to drive, easy to work on... Put a fair few weights over the front so it doesn't wheelie everywhere!
NIce Kit and touching message. I bought the Sand Viper as a first RC for my youngest son one chistmas. It's a great chassis, especially for an entry level car. My entry level back in the day was a Hornet. Chalk and Cheese really. I bought a DT-02 chassis/kit/group of parts with no body or wheels recently. Funnily enough it was from a Holiday Buggy kit. It's just waiting for electronics and the Sand Viper body set I bought for it. Just quickly, the Sand Viper I bought for my son (he still has it btw) came with bearings and an esc. Very much a far cry from my Hornet.
Fantastic generous guy Darren! The original Holiday buggy was the first ever tamiya l saw back in must of been 82! My dad was an electrician and a mate of his asked him to repair it as the thing had packed up! I was in amazement of this car and had a little push around with it on our kitchen table thinking wow l would love to get one of these! That was the fuse lit for me! You got me thinking now Glenn about the DT-02 and how many models have been! The ORV has a decent list behind it for sure too! But yeah the DT-02 can now really be called a classic chassis in my opinion! A modern day classic that's become an actual classic! The DT-03 is following in its footsteps too! Another nice chassis from Tamiya! Anyway yeah looking forward to your twist because these can look epic with a little work! Need to narrow the wheel stance to! You can do that! The body can be painted if sanded and done with primers etc and would probably be ok on the shelf! But being so soft and bendy its tricky to make it stick! But what a joyful little kit the 2010 Holiday buggy is! Damn shame the original don't get a rere though! Especially now this DT-02 version has succeeded! Go on tamiya treat us old boys to the real deal warts and all! Great vid as always my friend...apart from the reading bit lol. Cheers James.
Nice vid glenn! I found a bloke on eBay in Germany I think does a narrow conversion kit for the dt02 sand rover, just needs tt01 axles and a couple of other parts. Not cheap but they bits are out there if you’re thinking of that idea
Decent set of CVA’s and a half decent motor sorts these little things out no end. I love mine, tough little thing too. Great story behind this too, enjoyed this.
Hi Glenn. I’ve built one of these with the track width narrowed to look more like the original. The methods are on the net but involves cutting some suspension arms down and 3D printing some, it does look loads better though 😉
Great video Glenn. I can remember getting my first kit (Marui shogun) from classic models at carlisle (shop long since closed). I wish those shops were still around. Me and my lad recently went to Wonderland models in Edinburgh and it was like going back in time. Enjoy my friend
Loved hearing about the memories of going into the model shop back then. I loved going to the model shop when I was younger and just staring at the boxes 😊. I'm with you about this one, I also turned my noise up at it being on the wrong chassis but now I totally agree with it. The fact you can't paint the body was something that always annoyed me, shame we can't get another one to paint as we please. Great Video Glenn 👍
I love the look of the Holiday Buggy, a fantastic looking car! I had a DT02 Sand Viper some time ago, I actually converted a DT03 into the DT02, and I loved it. The DT02 is a great platform, OK it has quite a few limitations, but it was pretty sturdy and was a load of fun. I'm sure if you keyed and primered the body it could be painted no problem. Also, I'm of the age that I remember the RC scene in the early and mid 1980's, what a time!! Can't wait to see what you do with this one!
G'day Glenn bloody hell the same story as mine but different people and cars loved hearing Darren's story. Lol I don't mind the new holiday buggy on DT02 chassis I think I need one now. Awesome video mate 👍👍
I have a sand viper DT-02 and absolutely love it. Sad that it’s really hard to get hop up’s for it and TRF parts in the UK 🇬🇧 😢 DT-02 MS looks amazing 😮 where could I find the part numbers for the DT-02 MS hop up’s to add to my sand viper?
great vid glenn as always theres a way to paint it if you heat it up i did mine originally about 5 years ago and it held together ive since scotched it down again recently as it didnt quite match the manila madness fleet haha but enjoy man they are awesome brushless 😃😃😃
Thank you for doing this.. Very informative.. The Blitzer Beetle is on my list... My very, very, very loooong list.! 😉 😉 Stay safe out there mate & best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍 👍

My first ever Tamiya was Ferrari F40 QD bought by my late mum in 1993.
Painted body and driver, my kind of kit 😂 they are a cool looking buggy for sure 👌
Nice, Darren should also buy himself one, with all the DT02 Options for the chassis 😎💯

My holiday buggy is one of my favorite RC’s. It handles well, and with the 15t hpi motor in it it rips
Love your passion! Please don’t stop!
I jst fin this build got bearings in now but gonna change drive chain.
I had two dessert gators last year but had to sell them.

Humble Vintage RC made 3D printed parts to make the Re Re Holiday Buggy more authentic to the original design.
Great looking car, it’s recently sparked my interest after build the Sand Rover. It’s on my list!
It’s such a fun buggy to build. Great story behind this donation to the channel. Enjoy!!
G'day Glenn bloody hell the same story as mine but different people and cars loved hearing Darren's story. Lol I don't mind the new holiday buggy on DT02 chassis I think I need one now. Awesome video mate 👍👍
I had an original holiday buggy back in the 80’s. It looks like they have changed the front end of the chassis
Nice video . Looks to be a major resurgence in this kit. It's everywhere right now. Let the builds begin!
Great video Glen well put together look forward to seeing what you create 👍👍
Love the holiday buggy 😁
You could use vinyl to effect a change of colour.
I have one but changed the wheels for blue ones. Would love a Red one and a Sand Rover. DT02 Overload. 🤠🤠🤠
I sware if tamiya did 1/43 scale diecast of these classic RC I would have a collection.
Everything ok mate, not seen you in ages! Hope alls well and you’re just busy!!

Awesome stuff. Similar story to me, although I had the Sand Rover body. There nothing like getting little stones in that open gearbox 😆
I keep telling myself to buy one of these kits. They look like so much fun. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Thank you for doing this..
Very informative..
The Blitzer Beetle is on my list... My very, very, very loooong list.! 😉 😉
Stay safe out there mate & best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍 👍
Gold super hot shot wheels and rothman decals
Tl01 gotta be the most used chassis id say.
Check out the Blockhead version, I will be finishing mine like that.
I have some neo falcon decals and trying to get a shell to go with my original falcon...but can't find one....😢
W Darren
Wow did realise how far I was behind on your videos sorry glenn
Cool. I'm a new Sub on your channel. 👍
I really want a rere sand rover
Original or the DT02.
@@Alan-cg8gx dt02. I wanna recreate speed buggy from the hanna barbarra cartoons
You will play hell trying to get paint to stick to the body. It’s like painting a plastic garbage can
make it box art !!!
Anyone else missing Glenn😕
The original H/B and Sand Rover are very nice. Not keen on the re release.
Is it a 540 motor
380

I don't understand what people see in tamiya. Their toy grade
Probably from the wrong century and on the wrong channel for comments like that sweetheart 💋
And it's they're 😉
