Thanks for posting. Instructions are clear and easy to follow.
Thank you! I try to make all of my videos easy to understand. If you haven't already be sure to like and subscribe! I really appreciate your support.
@@ITLumberjack thank you.
Can you also show how to install and activate Office 2019 VL on clients after installing VAMT on Server?
Thank you in advance.
Great video! Very clear, straight to the point. I subscribed to your channel and gave you a like. Please keep posting more videos like this.
Nice. This is what I was looking for. Now I need to figure out how to deploy office 2019 to various workstations.
Do you have SCCM?
Hello, thank you very much for the helpful video. It's very well explained and easy to understand. The editing of the video is also good, you don't waste time anywhere.
It would be very interesting if you could also show us how to convert a MAK key into a KMS, or how to activate a KMS with a MAK key.
Unfortunately you can not convert a MAK key to a KMS key and vice versa.
If a device is activated with a MAK key it can be changed to a KMS and vice versa.
a lot of thanks .
What is the difference between Active Directory-Base Activation and Key Management Service, when it comes to selecting activation methods? (1:42 mins)
great.
What is difference between KMS and VAMT? Can we configure KMS and VAMT at same server?
Hi We have an existing windows 2008r2 KMS server on premises. So, we need to launch a new server in AWS and migrate to windows 2016. Is it possible to add this new server as an additional KMS server and then we want to use both for some time until the new server picks up everything. If we do this AD based activation, will it remove the old sever?
Can I use Volume Activation services to enable the license and the VAMT Tool just to extract the report on which computers it is activated or not activated? without VAMT I dont see any option where we can get the list of computers which is activated
So the 2019 host key is also used for the Office volume license packs?
Also, how do you view the windows and office activations?
So after this steps this win19 server is used like a volume license server? I can have a volume license for Office2021 and distribute it to other pcs or vms? And final question after activating volume license can the server be in offline environment or it needs to be connected to internet?
Question: My organization is looking into having a Key Management Service (KMS) server in house from Microsoft in order to activate windows server 2019 and windows 10, do we still have to order for CALs from Microsoft after the windows server 2019 and windows 10 have been activated for 180 days and continuing?
I would recommend that you talk with your Microsoft rep or your reseller. I do not want to give you any incorrect information when I'm not 100% sure.
Hello, look, I'm trying to add the kms license for server 2019 but it won't let me, could you explain or link the package to add the license?
Is there any videos or articles explaining how to make KMS server work without having internet?
Thansk for all! Very usefull post. Have you know how can monitoring the service?
Monitor it in what way?
Thank you for nice video! I have a question. currently I have a kms host server(not Acitive directory server base: I mean KMS host). In case KMS host server emergency situation , I would like to make a stand by KMS host server. So I backup the current KMS host data. Then I restored the data. Can I run the standby KMS host correctly?
I’m going to be honest and say I’m not sure. Running it with Active Directory you do because it adds objects into AD and as long as the domain controllers are replicating it given you a level of redundancy.
@@ITLumberjack OK Thak you I wil try it.
I am seeing the same error you got with Office 2019, but with Server 2019 Standard KSM.. What would I need to download on my server?
The site referenced in the video: www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57342
As always, if you are unsure, run the setup in a test environment first.
Hi! where can we find the KMS keys? Upon checking in the Microsoft portal I can only see a MAK keys.
I would check with you're Microsoft representative.
Thanks for this. For some reason when I install server 2016 and server 2012 licenses I get this same error what should I do in this case?
What error are you getting?
@@ITLumberjack Invalid product key or license mismatch. Please confirm this product key is entered correctly and is valid for this application or windows edition.
I've made sure I'm using using the correct one. I have been able to add 2019 kms key and windows 10 enterprise.
To be honest I'm not sure. I haven't run into that issue. It maybe worth contacting your Microsoft rep and asking them.
How do we activate client machines from kms host machines?
Hi , what if i cant do AD kms and want a single kms host can i add multiple kns keys for windows 10 and office also?
You can add multiple KMS keys for different products. You can even add multiple KMS keys for the same version of a product. I believe MS issues a new KMS key everytime a volume license agreement is renewed. The old key will still work but it's best to add the new key as well.
I hope that answers your question. If not let me know.
@@ITLumberjack Hi, We built a new KMS server with Windows Server 2019. After added in the KMS host key as "KMS" method instead of "AD Based activation" in VAT for Windows (included windows servers & windows 10 Enterprise), and then added KMS host key for Office 2019 Pro. Run: cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv all >C:\temp\KMS.txt, the text displayed Windows license status as: Unlicensed but the Office 2019. Would the KMS key of the Office 2019 override the KMS key of Windows? the KMS.txt content is confusing and I'm not sure if we missed any steps. We didn't get the last screen to show 2 KMS keys shown in your video after the configuration step. any advice would be apprecicated. Thanks!
NVM. We re-ran the Office 19 Volume Lic Package again. It seems working now. Thanks!
Awesome! Glad to here you got it figured out.
Why is a new client machine added to ad does not activate automatically..it activates only when i click on troubleshoot button or i type slmgr /ato
I’m not sure. Does it activate after a reboot.
@@ITLumberjack no..but it activates only after i click on troubleshoot
Sir which screen recorder do you use
I use Screen-O-Matic
@@ITLumberjack Thank You Sir
So is the process the same if you're not using the AD method?
It’s similar but it does have some differences. I do not remember exactly how they differ.
i cant find server manager
what's behind the red rectangle at the end of the video?)
It is the activation ID. The activation ID is a unique identifier the KMS uses to manage product activations. Each product has a different activation ID.
How do we convert MAK to ADBA if we already have MAK key?
You have to have a KMS Key.
@@ITLumberjack Thanks a lot
Can i add a MAK key to KMS Server?
Unfortunately you can not. Check out VAMT (Volume Activation Management Tool). Its a tool for Microsoft that aids in managing MAK keys.
From where i can get the kms key
You have to have a Microsoft license agreement.
Just a heads up your Office Key is visible for 1 frame
Thank you so much for the heads up. I fixed my error. Again thank you for pointing that out.
@@ITLumberjack no problem. Thanks for making the video!
your email ID???..
It would be great if you could also show us how to migrate kms server from 2012 to 2019 , how we can find out if the environment is using AD based Activation or KMS based Activation?
Good questions. I think I know the answers to your questions but I want to lab it before I say.
KMS keys are kept in the active directory database. If you are using a central store and multiple domain controllers, the KMS keys should be on all of the domain controllers. In the event a domain controller is upgraded to 2019 and there are multiple domain controllers in the environment the keys should remain in tack.
It is recommended to only use the Volume Activation Tool to add, delete, and view the KMS keys that are installed. You can view them inside of your active directory database using ADSI Edit but that is not recommended. www.itprotoday.com/active-directory/q-where-active-directory-active-directory-based-activation-information-stored
As always if you are in doubt of any changes you are wanting to make I highly recommend labbing the changes you want to make before making them in a production environment.
@@ITLumberjack Thanks for the Reply. Here's what i did, I had a KMS Server running on 2012 in my environment. I had my windows workstations ( 7, 10 , 8.1 , server 2012, 2016) getting activated with this server. Whenever i introduced a new server with OS 2019 or Windows 10 1909 , these machines are not getting activated. MS recommended me to introduce a NEW KMS Server with 2019 Operating System on it. I did the same. I was successfully able to activate few workstations with windows 10 1909 ... I need to know how to remove the old KMS server and , also make sure that all my earlier workstations / servers etc will remain activated or will get activated with the new server. Another Question I have is ,I have installed the volume pack for 2019 and have added the KMS for Office 2019. Do i need to install Volume pack for 2016 and KMS key also for office 2016 activation.and similarly for office 2013 as well...
If you have non-domain joined clients this video is not for you.
To my knowledge the PC has to be on a domain. There are ways of deploying keys to workgroup PCs but you would need third party software.
@@ITLumberjack Maybe this is a Server 2019/VAMT thing? I did not use VAMT. I used the VBScripts to set it up.
On Win2k12 you do not need to be domain joined. Just let KMS publish the server to DNS. It will create an SRV record for you.
I am moving to 2019 so that's why I came across your video.
I have non-domain clients to support otherwise I would move AD activation.
Interesting. I'll have to look into activating workgroup computers in that fashion. Thank you for that info.
If I ever had a workgroup computer that needed activating I used a series of commands to activate. If your curious I have them in my website. When I used these scripts I used a MAK key.
