That was the culmination of a lifetime of devotion to her craft. This is just another example of the depth of Liszt's genius and absolute importance in the musical universe
This performance in London was only the second time she's played the piece in public, first being a couple of days earlier in Oxford. And after you heard it in Nurnberg, she played it again in Budapest, Freiburg and Zurich after that! :)
Como dijo Barenboim, se está ante un gran pianista cuando a. este hace parecer fácil algo de modo que uno piensa que también podría hacerlo o cuando b. uno ve que jamás podría hacerlo. Martha siempre va por el camino A.
My favourite rendition is Van Cliburn's, as an encore after winning the first Tchaikovsky competition, during the cold war. It's a bit less Lisztian and more Schumannesque than Argerich's. What i love about it, is that it's a truly emotional "Widmund", reacting to his warm reception by the Russian audience at the time. Really heartfelt, just like Schumann intended, when he was dedicating the song to his wife-to -be.
Had the immense pleasure to have been in that audience that day. Extremely emotional experience.
I'm listening to this and then I'm listening to the 2019 show. It's hard for me to decide which one I like better, both are beautiful!🐡🙂
I've listened to a lot of great pianists in my life, but it's hard to beat Martha. She has musicality in her soul.
yes, absolutly!
A perfect balance of beauty, virtuosity, elegance and grace. Like fine wine, Martha Argerich only gets better with age.
BEAUTIFUL dearest Martha!
I keep returning to this. I can't thank you enough. A dream.
OMFG I was there!!! I was crying my eyes out during this!
Best Widmung's performance I've ever heard ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh my God, this was yesterday! So beautiful to be able to hear Martha play!

Martha - the reigning Queen of the piano.
It was absolutely beautiful. I can’t figure out why there are unlikes of this? Hating this for no reason...
I was there. Magnificent interpretation!
Everyone in this audience is lucky to be in her presence. That is how I feel about her in general. Even with bad audio quality, you feel her strength.
Oh, Martha, Martha, what a beautiful 'Widmung" !
Thank you so much for capturing and sharing this beautiful performance! What a treat!
One should not sacralize a person, but I do. My Lord, Martha!
Questa musica mi commuove tutte le volte che l'ascolto, bellissima, grazie per la condivisione, Brava Martha
Yes.... Martha has never played a better Widmung! This is gorgeous and deeply felt.

Maravillosa Martha!!!
Viste que maravilla Facundo?
La mas bella de las versiones de este genio musical llamado Martha Argerich
I love her playing! Heard the same encore in Nürnberg some weeks ago.

Genial querida Martha!!!

She played it as encore after a performance with orchestra??? In the last years she never offer encores.... wow!

2:17
And this is how you play Widmung.
