Since I saw the memes and not getting the Ao Oni one before hearing about the game, I was never be able to see anything different in the first place... maybe the design can be creepy despite the goofy model in an uncanny valley sort of way but the fact that it's synonymous with Yandere Dev prevents me from ever taking it seriously
That was the best but when I was playing the game, I already knew Takuro was an oni. Imagine tripping when the monster is right behind you lol typical horror movie cliche, and since oni transformed into Mika and the blonde guy, Takuro was an oni too.
my favorite part about the end with takuro is that it gives you a small hint it isnt takuro, because at 17:50 he says “it is dangerous to be alone, will you please take me with you?” but earlier, he insisted that he wanted to split up.
ok but can we talk about how clever 18:00 was? opening your inventory to see the takuro ao oni in your party must have been horrifying kudos to the devs

The only thing that bugs me with Ao Oni... is the fact that the creature is constantly referred to as 'blue' when it is very clearly purple! On the story side, I think it was one of those classic 'People decided to gluck around with experimentation and learned the age old adage of Mess around and Find Out' Specifically I think the thing may have been brought about by folks trying to bring someone back, with the religious room and hospital rooms plus the fact that the creature(s?) can morph, in both turning people into it and it turning into people. I think it was one of those "My loved one died and the grief made my mind snap so YAHOOO HERE-A WE GO!! Necromancy ass experimentation time is a go and I- OOP-"

i distinctly remember an ending where everyone lives, so i think he just covered the bad ending as the "canon" ending and didnt touch on the other endings

The reason why the "Everyone Lives" ending is canon is due to the fact that Mika, Takeshi and Takuro all have important roles in Ao Oni 2 and 3... which are mobile exclusive.

I love the way you tell the story of this game. I was genuinely terrified of this game when I was younger, then got over it after watching several RUclipsrs play it. Now, with the way your describe every scene, the unsettling fear this game put in me are reawaken, and strangely I thank you. 😊
Ao oni is those old games (now) that we play back in the day, but it still somehow be terrifying. This is a one of those good horror games that doesn't have to be that complicated

Always weird looking back at 10+ year memories trying to analyze the feelings now that I’m an intelligent adult. I distinctly remember watching Pewdiepie play this game wayyyyyyyy back in the day. Man it’s crazy how life is looking at everything that happens to now seeing how every domino falls and the effects of it all.
Aoi Oni is an interesting game, it's led to many fangames including the one I'm most aware of called HetaOni which has combat, hilarious moments of character portraits changing & a plot that sounds like something out of Higurashi or the PV for the Vocaloid song Hazy Days.(I hope I got that right) It'd be interesting to learn more about the game or even some edits like an alternate ending based off one of the really old versions. The weirdest thing is that you can choose your player's name & typing certain things in leads to cheats or helpful stuff like a timer for when the chase is over. The part were it gets weird is one code just turns the thing into South Park with pretty much everyone that dies getting killed at the door & random rats showing up. Another thing I found weird is that the anime is a comedy with short segments. Wasn't expecting much but didn't expect a comedy. There's even a bit joking about them growing old & never being able to escape.
I'd recommend checking out more classic rpgmaker horrors! I saw someone mention Ib, and i have to say the witchs house, mad father, and the crooked man series are all also classics!

Yeah, the original data is lost and basically the original maker lost some motivation to continue it. Also at the time the maker is making another Hetalia game too, so she focused more on that instead. I think she once said if she somehow got the motivation to continue it, she will continue it. Well it has been more than decade lol. :')

if you ever make a video like this again I would suggest making sure the video clips dont spoil the narrative youre trying to tell and that the clips line up with the part of the story you're telling
I think so too. Ao Oni gave a big boost of inspiration to modern RPGMaker horror games so I used the word "beginning", but I assume it got the inspiration from Corpse Party in the first place. I guess it's more of a road mark for RPGMaker games lol.
uhhh, did you do a script edit after recording footage for a rough draft? 'cuz there's a lot of your narration that either describes something completely different than what is happening on screen or is extremely off sync from what it is supposed to be describing. outside of that, solid narration-style plot video for this kind of game.

if you ever make a video like this again I would suggest making sure the video clips dont spoil the narrative youre trying to tell and that the clips line up with the part of the story you're telling

I think so too. Ao Oni gave a big boost of inspiration to modern RPGMaker horror games so I used the word "beginning", but I assume it got the inspiration from Corpse Party in the first place. I guess it's more of a road mark for RPGMaker games lol.

uhhh, did you do a script edit after recording footage for a rough draft? 'cuz there's a lot of your narration that either describes something completely different than what is happening on screen or is extremely off sync from what it is supposed to be describing. outside of that, solid narration-style plot video for this kind of game.
