I live in Albuquerque, NM. Bought an Explorer before C-19 from this dealer in the video. They did a great job. Needed to buy a new vehicle due to an accident. Went back to this exact dealer and they tried to charge me a $7.5K mark up. I will never do business with them again. They are just horrible. They treated my wife and I disrespectful and they just wanted to profit off of us and our situation. They lost a long time customer for life! Do not buy a vehicle from Rich Ford in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I can tell you why car stealerships are still required. Very simple - us lowly consumers don’t have political lobbying power.
I read the story about this topic several years back and here’s what I remember. It was sometime during the early days of the internet when car makers realized that they could do paperwork, financing, etc. online and they made plans to sell directly to the consumer. Evidently, makers don’t like car stealerships any more than us consumers like them.
Upon catching wind of this, stealership owners from all over the country got together and spent over $100M lobbying in Washington DC to ensure laws were created such that the middleman, aka, the stealership, couldn’t be removed from the equation except in specific regions of rural Alaska, where vehicles can be sold directly from manufacturers to consumers.
Nothing like legislating a requisite middleman and consumers getting the short end of the stick yet again.
