- Unreal Engine 5 has finally been released, and whilst professional and amateur developers move beyond early builds of the 3D creation tool, to get to grips with its full version, we thought we’d take another look at the tech demos out there.
As before, the unparalleled realism, immersive lighting, and photo-realistic texture effects have us spellbound. It’s hard not to get too swept away by some of these demos, as it remains to be seen how the intricate environments demonstrated here will be incorporated into video games that’ll run smoothly at high framerates.

As much as I enjoy art direction, it's realism that really makes me see how technology evolves. Can't wait for indies to get their hands on U5.
If you can do realism without diving into the uncanny Valley, then that's a big thumbs up from me
There are a few indie games coming out soon using ue5. Very impressive stuff

and when its only like a pair of sunglasses that is easier to use and more affordable so VR gets a bigger player base with more and better games. Cant wait to see what the future brings

I remember being blown away by the awesome illusions of psychedelic drugs and then by photoshop when it first came out in 1990. I thought I seen it all. Now we're never gonna know if a photo's been animated or not. What's fake or real. We all know the camera doesn't lie but sometimes it gets the wrong impression. In the advancement of technology you would think hyper realism is the main quest rather than what's believable and what's not. I love it. I hope they don't waste it on Fortnite.

It could be used for any game not just one plus fortnites graphics are more animated than they are hyper realistic so that would never happen anyway lol smh. If anything they would just make it have better animation graphics which i dont see how improving a games looks would be a waste???

We are an architecture and construction company in Chile, and we have used Unreal Engine for a long time and it is the best for real-time visualization 😁 The preview versions of Unreal 5 were already spectacular and the best thing is the lighting - Lumion really changed everything.
It's great that this is being talked about not only in games but also in movies and other experiences like ours... There are plenty of tutorials to learn ❤ we did it that way.

That basement woodshop blew my fucking mind. Granted thats with a level of perfect raytracing current GPU's cant do realtime just yet but... a sign of things to come

Actually, UE5 uses lumen which doesn't require an rtx card, though rtx will have an easier time running it. And you can actually run that in real time.
@@itzshft Even the RTX3090 can't do what's shown in this video in realtime, which is path tracing. But in 10 years time...who knows...
@@wibblewobble1934 Yes it can, at least now it can. Have you used unreal engine 5 yet or heard about the technology? Lumen allows real time reflections but isn't as graphically demanding as rtx and doesn't require an rtx card. The clip he showed in the forest was running in real time. I recommend you check out the gameplay trailer for Hellblade 2.
I'm a old gamer at 44 from before Nintendo lol I never thought that I would see the day that games would be so beautiful that it's like the saying ever see something so beautiful it could make you cry, I know it's a figure of speech but dam.

That carpentry shop one is near indistinguishable from reality. If someone said, "I want to show you my shop I've been working on. I would assume it was a legit video. The textures on the tv were slightly off but I mean so freaking close on everything else.

Ill looks like the Condemned sequel I’ve been waiting for, for years. I hope it is released for consoles also. Star Atlas Also looks like a dream game. Let’s just hope the gameplay can keep up with the incredible graphics.

I'm super interested to see this in games like Zelda 10-15 years in the future honestly. Realistic lighting and textures actually work super well in stylized games if done right.

One thing I have noticed with games that use Unreal Engine is that they have a tendency to crash if your GPU has been overclocked in any way, including factory. I had to dial mine back to get the games to stop crashing. If they can address this then UE games will be popular.

An Unreal Tournament remake in UE5 would be amazing.
Would love to see what recourses VRAM and otherwise this would require to run at 1440P 120+.
Unpopular opinion: video game realism is usually little more than a gimmick. Enjoyability is more about the mechanics and brain engagement in problem solving and skill than anything.
That's true. Once you play the game long enough the graphics will no longer amaze you
There will come a time in our lifetime, where you cannot tell the difference between animation and reality
7:22 im imagining an open world survival game in the dense beautiful mountain forests im really hoping sons of the forest has this level of beauty in the map i can imagine a full day/night system weather system and you can do anything and the world would be a fully dynamic ecosystem where things grow over time you can cut trees and shrubs down the sounds of the trees being chopped and falling would have an echo effect over the aqua colored lake, the lightning strike setting a tree on fire would spread causing a wildfire. just imagining the potential of the ultimate survival game that will have you sink thousands of hours into from how amazingly alive the world becomes we absolutely need it and i cant wait for the next "minecraft" of survival games

UE5 walking sims will be really nice this gen.
There’s gonna be a point and I’m sure it’s already been passed with using metahumans within the walking sims.
Some of these environments such as @ 10:00 look really spooky without trying. I'm not really into horror, but that may change.

I wonder how playable UE5 games will be. One of the reasons I liked UnrealEngine based games was that they looked great and were playable too. This looks like it's going to make my system hurt. It's a shame Epic seems to have jettisoned the Unreal franchise; this would make a hell of an Unreal reboot.

I'm so glad I'm a millennial. I get to see the frontier of where the future is going. Traveling between Mars and earth. Super realistic video games. Playing inside video games. Microscopic robots as well as walking talking human like robots. Cars that run on electric and can drive by themselves. Smart homes. What a life.

The first time I played unreal tournament I knew this engine was all business.
It'll be at least 10 years before we see anything like that on a big open world game
100% - so much hype on UE5 that people dont realize that current hardware cant exactly run all of this at a good frame rate.. but the future is very bright!
@@nickmajurovski2516 Wrong. Minimum requirements for a lot of UE5 games will start at the 1060's. Recomended will be 2070 8gb/1080 ti 11gb. The 3000s series will be sufficient

No different. We've already achieved hyper realism, there is literally zero room for advancement. Only thing that will change is VR technology

I think we have pretty much defeated the uncanny valley in terms of textures and lighting. Now they have to focus on how to go over humans, animals and destruction. These three got to have the most difficult uncanny valley to go over.
That car crash test did a very good job of showing off the destructive physics
But what spec PC and gpu would you need to run this ?

Minimum GPU performance for UE5 that I would recommend is a gtx 1650.

I’ve seen other creators using gpus like 1080s and getting 60fps within the viewport
