This is the way I’v always seen death! Come from nothing and go back to it. In a way we don’t fear death we fear not ‘being’.. but we had no fear before we were born right? And we shall go back to that.. no fear, no hurt, no pain, no stress, no worry etc .. sure that includes no love, joy, happiness etc but when we find those things in our brief existence they outweigh all the negatives do they not? It’s really is a case of make the most of today.. your a Alive now, your ‘being’ thinking & feeling now and death can’t change the fact that you had this moment

I’ve been listening to allan for years now. trying to understand everything he taught, is marvelous. watch the videos over and over again, I like listen to him while I go shopping, when i’m walking, when i’m in my car. everything he says is so profound and deep. I was so afraid of death before now I accept it with a positive attitude. the circle of life is so beautiful. also makes me very depressed I most admit. philosophy is so interesting and profound but sometimes I wish I didn’t knew all that, always watch people living life way better than me and be more happier by not knowing all this things it makes me wonder if this knowledge will make you happier or way more depressed. also I can’t explain those things to people they just don’t get it or don’t care, I would like to talk to someone like allan about soo many things, he is like the grandfather/friend/father/I never had, full of wisdom and lessons to teach
I had been thinking so much about death and our existence and the strangeness of it. How can something nonexistent suddenly exist and then become nonexistent again? This video made me feel better about the concept of reaching nonexistence.
I have listened to this so many times.. it soothes me it calms me his voice and accent is very right. I never expected in the twilight of life to begin to get ready with the help of this man who has been dead what ? 47 yrs? its awesome....all who listen are so lucky
Amazing truly amazing & utterly timeless! People will still listen to Alan Watts 500 years from now and this will still make perfect sense of the human existence.
It's interesting to me that most people who live a stressful, problem filled life often look forward to having deep restful sleep to get away from it all; and not necessarily looking forward to dreaming, but actual nothingness.
Turning into nothingness after experiencing life and being with your loved one's,and knowing that you will never see them again is what makes death something to be scared of ,something very ugly.

I have a really bad problem with coping with the thought of death. It keeps me up most nights because it always seems to somehow come into my thoughts and i just don’t know what to do about it, because I’m not really in control. Nothing really helps and I end up watching videos like this and it still doesn’t make it any easier.
"The second thing it makes me think of is when I’m dead I am as if I never had been born, and that’s the way I was before I was born. Just as I try to go back behind my eyes and find what is there I come to a blank, if I try to remember back and back and back to my earliest memories and behind that - nothing, total blank. But just as I know there’s something behind my eyes by using my fingers on my head, so I know through other sources of information that before I was born there was something going on. There were my father and my mother, and their fathers and mothers, and the whole material environment of the Earth and its life out of which they came, and behind that the solar system, and behind that the galaxy, and behind that all the galaxies, and behind that another blank - space. I reason that if I go back when I’m dead to the state where I was before I was born, couldn’t I happen again?"
Wow! Alan, it's year three since I heard you for the first time, but you still blow me away. You just had this weird and beautiful way with words, it's priceless!
i love these, so much they just make me realize how much everything matters, and makes everything seem so peaceful. It also makes me cry, but not for sadness, but for the thoughts that go through my mind as i listen and begin to think, harder and harder about what reality even is, what is love? i’m in love, but how can i feel such a strong connection with someone, how can i truly feel the way i do about this one person. It an uncontrolled feeling, love is. An unforgettable thing really, it makes us realize how strong our feelings can truly be.
The void is God and where God resides. He has lain dreaming there since the beginning of time. Everything and everyone is a part of those dreams. When we die, we go back into the void and join another dream.
This is what I've been trying to tell people that are afraid of death. I had never heard this snippet before and I always told people that there would be no more "you" to experience fear. Even if there is an afterlife, you leave your nervous system behind I would think. I am more afraid of life than death. There is pain in life but death? No pain. No fear. I hope..
If there is Nothing after Death, then there is no Right or Wrong in Life,Everything is Permissible,If there is No Lesson to be learned after Death, then whats the point in it all ?
Patrick Flynn i think the fact we get this ecperience is the reason to enjoy it for what it is. A chance to live is something we can't give to anyone as it is so large and astonishing that we can't even begin to explain it. We have one shot. We don't know why or how as that is up for us to decide.
I think that once you find the divine within you you leave the animal realm for good and ascend to a place where many religions call ‘heaven’ a place where there is no fear death of pain. You should read As A Man Thinketh by James Allan
Life is a cycle positive cannot exist without negative, neutrons without electrons, winter without summer, life without death and death without life. etc etc

I could spend hours listening to his talks. There is something calming about his voice that counters the immense amount of perspectives and ideas he floods your mind with.
Talk to someone who is dying and the meaning of life and living becomes apparent. They see life with blinding clarity as their darkness approaches. Follow no one, compare to no one and just be someone. And that's you.
I have a friend, a girl, who is very intelligent and articulate, who was born blind and hasn’t the faintest idea what darkness is. The word means as little to her as the word light. So it is the same for you: you are not aware of darkness when you are asleep. If you went to sleep, into unconsciousness for always and always, it wouldn’t be at all like going into the dark; it wouldn’t be at all like being buried alive. As a matter of fact, it would be as if you had never existed at all! Not only you, but everything else as well. You would be in that state, as if you had never been. And, of course, there would be no problems, there would be no one to regret the loss of anything. You couldn’t even call it a tragedy because there would be no one to experience it as a tragedy. It would be a simple - nothing at all. Forever and for never. Because, not only would you have no future, you would also have no past and no present.
i have learned to accept death i am not afraid of it in the slightest. i have been dead for infinity and am okay with starting a new life when i die. time is relative and it’s fascinating to learn about. that is why i got my degree as a theoretical physicist
This is the one video that helps me put to bed my fears over death. As someone who will take the decision over his own life and death into his own hands, this gives me a big sigh of relief, every time I listen to it. I won't know about it, because 'I' will be no more, so why worry? How peaceful eh?

Beautiful. I hope Alan has experienced it, just as he has lectured it
I have no words for this,
This is on another level.
I never get tired of listening to this guy. Comforting in a way. I see things different and am less anxious. A philosophy lesson for nearly free.
I just realized that my future son and my future daughter are currently dead.
They’re not dead, they just don’t PHYSICALLY exist in your world yet
@@piper-bw4lr They actually do already exist in the material world. He/she just hasn't arrived at that moment in "time" yet.
There is nothing that just suddenly comes into existence. Everything that exists has existed, and will always exist.
The change in things existing that we (human) experience, is actually our limited perspective of a material being moving between temporal "pockets".
As I began to write this comment, the comment already existed in it's finished state. Only now do you perceive it.

I love reading the comments after listening to Alan Watts, race aside, sex aside, age aside, religion aside, political views aside. Just people sharing their opinions and secrets. One of those rare moments where it feels like we bring eternal peace to the earth. Something that doesn‘t happen anymore
Wonderful teaching and wonderful music...❤ THANKS ALOT🙏❤️
i wish everyone knew how sacred time is we all are going through this crazy moment we call life. sleep is my favorite thing
Same here bro...sleep is the best thing to ever happen to mankind
@@Usul26 It isn't the best for everyone. Not the ones who continiously experiences nightmares, or dreams that just feels awful to be in.
Sleep is great if you don't remember anything and wake up rested, or if you dream something wonderful and wake up rested.
I've experienced both scenarios, but these late years it has almost entirely been the former. The negative aspect.
So sleep is no longer great, same as awake-time, never true rest to be found.
@@bosspoke Low doses of psilocybin reduced my nightmares significantly. I felt the same way you did. Sleep used to be a relief to me, but when I started having constant nightmares there was never any relief. No rest. I was close to suicide, thankfully after the low doses of psilocybin, they reduced dramatically. Trauma can be a source of nightmares

No one goes anywhere, life is eternal, we just change from this place to a non physical realm and then we come back in another physical form to continue creating, enjoying this physical reality and leave again to the other side.
Either way here or there we continue creating, living and assisting others from the non physical realm.
Everything is energy, and our consciousness continues expanding.

We are living the same life over and over again
I've seen it too
Is it possible our perception of this world is merley an outlet of consiousness as whole. And that when we cease to exist in this plane, we cease to exist again until the universe dies and re-expads again; in the exact way it always have, to life the same life over again for eternity?

Death is the one thing that's true and fair to everyone. One irrefutable reality that should make us humble, loving, and less anxious while experiencing this momentary pause called life in the eternal slumber called death.
I have listened to this over five times already, still, every time I hear it, it just puts me at ease and imbues a sense of tranquility. Such is the sheer power of Alan Watts words.
I love this. Such a smart man.
Whoever is reading this now, remember:

Nothing more liberating then listening Alan Watts talking about death :) Thank you Alan.
I love the concept of death, nothingness forever
Chris Igop everything is energy and can't be destroyed only transformed so when you die your spirit which is also energy can't become nothing
I love you Alan Watts from the bottom of my heart.
This always leaves me with a smile and a tear.
I miss you so much sister!!!! RIP Nidia becerra
I have listened to this so many times..
it soothes me
it calms me
his voice and accent is very right.
Listening to Alan watts, looking at this eclipse just hits different.
When I’m asleep I’m at my happiest. I dread the thought that I’ll come back to live again. But when I’m dead I’ll never know.
Alan Watts is the main reason my heart keeps pumping blood within my body.
Turning into nothingness after experiencing life and being with your loved one's,and knowing that you will never see them again is what makes death something to be scared of ,something very ugly.
What if, when you die and see the light, that the light is actually you being born into another body?
We never saw anything before being born this time so we couldnt know
Really? How do you know we do and just forget shortly afterwards?
People have had near death experiences and saw the "light" explain how is that possible if it's just a new born?
There have been people who actually remember being born. I'm sure they also remember seeing "the light" when they were born
Not everyone is born in a hospital with a millions lights shining in their face.
116k views and im the first like...i feel that the death aspect has still grasp on so many of you..the more you come to know death..the more life shines..the more peace wil enhance in your existence. see in detail more of what youve never seen..though weve never seen anything..play the game that says you have seen things..embrace existence in its entirety..and look harder with an open child like mind. unite with each other and share lessons that there is nothing to fear..lessons from tibet. the tibetan book of living and dying is a great teacher. meditate..contemplate..but realise we are already there..you just come to view it clearer..nothing to fear. #weareone
This makes a lot of sense and actually pretty comforting.. 😊
This is the best ever insight that I have ever heard. Experiences of the blind, pure soul where thoughts and conflicts are restricted.
I can't tell if his outlook on death scares me even more, or if it's deeply comforting.

What a brilliant man,. Dr. Alan watts. So inspiring!! Thank you!!!
“Forever and for never” for some reason that really spoke to me
I have a really bad problem with coping with the thought of death.
Wonderful, makes me appreciate each day, when we die there is no after, enjoy yourself, help others, when your time is up that's truly the end...

An unforgettable thing really, it makes us realize how strong our feelings can truly be.
i will NEVER get tired or bored of this man lowkey alan watts jus hits different
I'm afraid of what isn't there though.
The void is the terrible part.
You are the void separation is an illusion

The void is God and where God resides. He has lain dreaming there since the beginning of time. Everything and everyone is a part of those dreams. When we die, we go back into the void and join another dream.
@@FlipGz define that more for me :)

The point is what you make it. You give your life meaning.
I think that once you find the divine within you you leave the animal realm for good and ascend to a place where many religions call ‘heaven’ a place where there is no fear death of pain. You should read As A Man Thinketh by James Allan
Life is a cycle positive cannot exist without negative, neutrons without electrons, winter without summer, life without death and death without life. etc etc
There is no point - you are the point.
What a soul .your existence is a blessing to all of us Alan .may God bless your soul forever.
Goosebumps listening to this, I think of all the people I love & the hope that they are at peace.
I think if the people who once graced this earth & left us to another part of the journey.
It’s painful to think of death but this guy is incredible, with or without the music

Death does not concern us, because as long as we exist, death is not here. And when it does come, we no longer exist. -Epicurus
