As a former AFJROTC cadet and Current USN Seabee. Miss these days, never was in to the drill stuff but it gave me discipline and work ethic. Looking back at it its a fantasy and getting made fun of but getting that E-3. Saved me almost 2 years of working hard.

Was in afjrotc and the drill team when I was in hs, this stuff always takes me back to those days getting ready before a comp and how scared I’d be to see the judges lol now look at me, 6 years into the army and about to go be a judge at my old hs’ drill competition… wildddd
This is my 4th day doing rotc class so I was nervous asf doing this in training 😂 but it’s super cool doing this stuff and I’m excited to learn more about it. And these guys did great!
Really enjoyed her clear command voice. Perfect loudness & projection. Sometimes cadets want to holler & race through the reporting statement. My only comment is on her backward movement. AF Drill & Ceremonies does not mention a rearward march. Cadets out there make sure you look in the regs before copying this except in exhibition drill. Otherwise congrats!
Thanks for the excellent observation. Ava was a High School Senior at the time and I was Fresh off the line as a Military Training Instructor; I taught her that transitory drill for showmanship in the competition. Fortunately, it payed off and they took first place. Ava is now a Senior at Norwich University and will commission soon into the USN. My feedback for her after watching this again is not to bend her knee during her stationary drill movement (about face). Drives the old MTI in me crazy. 😂 Thanks for commenting 🎉
Thanks for the comment. I was fresh from being a Military Training Instructor the time and trained Ava (my daughter) to perform those movements. Marching backwards is an advanced movement normally used by Instructors during Basic Military Training graduations when (we) would give commands from the front of a transitory formation. Luckily it paid off and they took first place. It was simply showmanship.
i'm a British Army cadet (please don't send hate as i'm using my mums account) our drill is a lot more straight forward and very different but most of the core principles are the same
Idk about AFJROTC but for MCJROTC we report in, keep the salute and wait for the person we are reporting in to to salute and we drop.
