  • Today Weezna shows how he uses the BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer on kick and snare drum. This idea of using the 482i on kick and snare was borrowed from John Mcbride at Blackbird Studios. I thought it was an interesting way to use the 482i and i have been using this ever since. This video shows 3 different situations using the Sonic Maximizer:
    1. Raw live kick and snare drum
    2. Live kick and snare drum with some processsing
    3. Triggered kick and snare drum with full processing
    - Please listen with good quality studio monitor speakers or large headphones to hear the change in the low end (a subwoofer would help to hear the low end change with the kick drum).

    I've been using the sonic maximizer on kick and snare for a long time now. Its adds punch and clarity. I love the newer aphex aural exciters on toms as well. Very subtle

    The low contour is a +12 dBu boost at 50 Hz (not 80 Hz) and the maximum process is a +12 dBu boost at 5 K (not 7 K). I own one of those. But nice demo anyways. Greetings. Ruud.

    Very nice demo, the raw live tracks were very good to begin with, I’m amazed at that. But adding the BBE really made it cut thru to give you that extra bit of sweet sauce that I liked. Have you tried adding this to a drum buss for the entire kit? I’d like to see what that sounded like. Maybe a drum buss excluding hats and OHs. Anyways what’s you signal path/chain for kick and snare. Like mics, preamp, console, I’m very curious
    Rock on!

    I'm late to the party, but if used on live drums, I'm a bit confused on hooking mics to the unbalanced inputs and then the outputs back in to the interface. Any suggestions?

    Like the idea, it seems to enhance also the hi hat, maybe from the spill in the snare mic. Where do you insert this effect? Befor or after the main eq and compression?

    When it is ‘out’ it’s still colors the sound in a bad way. That was one of the sales techniques they used to use in the 90’s. Turn it off and it sounds like crap. Then turn in on and magically sounds good,

    Hard to tell on my computer speakers, (I'll play this video through my studio monitors later), but I do know that the Aphex Aural Exciter units work extremely well, so I would guess these do as well, even though a slightly different process my understanding is...

    I have a mixer and it has a patch bay. Im going out the mixer into my analogue filter Unit and out of it going into the gate compressor limiter and out of that into back in the mixer.
    Now my question is where do i put this Unit? Before the compressor limiter gate or after to rebrighten after the compressor.
    Which is the correct way?
    Or more correct.
    My guess is before the compressor limiter gate in order to keep system balanced but i might be wrong.

    • @TrueSoundTV
      @TrueSoundTV  4 года назад +2

      It depends, putting it before the compressor will make it a bit smoother and any eq changes you make will effect the compressor. Putting it after the compressor will make it typically brighter and have more bass but a bit less controlled. There's really no wrong way, more of just what you prefer

    Hi, do you think that BBE 482i would help improving solo vocals / voiceovers? And if yes, how can I utilize it for the low frequencies assuming that I apply high pass filter at 80Hz on my preamp? Thanks in advance!

    • @TrueSoundTV
      @TrueSoundTV  7 лет назад +2

      Good question! I have never used it on a vocal before but i will definitely try it out and make a video on it! Using the high pass filter is a must on vocals but the BBE will treat the lows differently due to it's frequency curve. Do you own a BBE 482i?

      TrueSoundStudios , thanks so much for your interaction with your followers :) really nice! Currently i'm not owning that piece of gear but thinking if it will improve my work (I do only voiceover & solo vocals) I will definitely buy it. That's why I'm curious to know how would it treat human voice :)

    the mix sounds horrible on iPhone speakers... better with headphones but still pretty bad... perhaps that was intentional to show the kick snare ? like the bbe on guitars as well.

    • @TrueSoundTV
      @TrueSoundTV  7 лет назад +6

      Yeah i mean you can't judge a rough mix for a product demo video on an iPhone. There's no way to accurately hear whats changing. But yes this is a video showing what the BBE does on the kick and snare and the mix has been changed to hear the drums more. Maybe you have never recorded live drums but those first 2 examples are how drums really sound without doing the full processing. Thanks for watching!
