Thomas Lee I just tried to buy a Mind Bender, price jumped $30 and my offer was declined. Pretty incredible. That pedal wasn’t even played; just mentioned.
The Sonic maximizer was a huge part of the early 2000's hardcore sound. Cranked 5150's with a maximizer in the fx loop was the crucial tone. It's debatable if it was good or not, but it was awesome.
A remarkable mid 2000's album to me is 2005's Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. 80's new wave using bright, clean effected guitars often sounded great but thin and lacking punch when recorded. This albums guitars are bright but are not thin. Add in the driving drum beats and you have a winner!
oh man, my favorite 2006 album is such an easy choice: Blood Mountain by Mastodon. my goodness, the melding of psychedelic sludge and heavy metal and prog and the DRUMS and just everything about it is mindblowing
I never knew BBE was Barcus Berry. Thanks for pointing that out. When I first switched from bass to guitar, I used a Barcus Berry 1330 preamp to push a Silverface Fender Bassman into overdrive. It sounded great.
I love your videos because its great to hear a pedal maker talk about how much they love other companies pedals. It really shows the love of the craft.
I really appreciate this video, the first pedal I ever bought was the Sonic Stomp and it has never left my Hendrix style board. It launched my love for pedals. And along with your videos specifically I have been inspired to teach myself electronics and start building my own pedals. Thanks for being such an inspiration and sparking a love for learning something new that actually adds positivity and happiness to my life.
My theory is, Josh is making these videos to raise prices of pedals that are not JHS, so people don't look at his pedals as expensive (because everything is expensive)
He could be collecting cheap pedals and then doing a video and flipping the cheap pedals for bank. But really he doesnt determine what people on reverb do
@@maxonmendel5757 honestly though he does. Look at the Behringer line of pedals: after his video on them, used market prices of every pedal highlighted in the vid went up.
Credulous as I am, I thought Josh was sharing his love for pedals. Great album choice. Spoon is the only band that I have ever seen live that had perfect sound. As in: I went to the show and put in my ear plugs expecting the usually barrage of too much sound for such a small venue. But when the band began to play I promptly realised the ear plugs were not necessary and upon removing them I was treated to a perfect mix of highs, lows, and mids accompanied by completely discernible vocals. It was a once in a lifetime event that I fear I shall never again have the privilege to be able to witness. PS: I have seen a lot of shows before and after that show. PPS: Please don’t ever joke about not making videos again. That was mildly traumatic.

True Story: I know nothing about this, and yet this video showed up in the suggested sidebar, so I thought I'd give it a chance even though I had no clue what it was about. Then, I saw your "Make Biking Great Again" shirt, and for the for the first minute, I was thinking, "Wow...a channel with a significant number of viewers all about bicycle pedals..." I was wondering if the benefit of BBE pedals was their grip on your shoes, or perhaps their softness so you can cycle in comfort.
Even if you are not into guitars, it may be worth watching old episodes to see some great bike theme t-shirts. My favorite was an X-Wing fighter with drop bars for wings.
I remember BBE Pedals! I remember them having a great reputation and that I was really looking into getting the Free Fuzz back then, as a 16 year old it had a price that I could afford for what seemed like a terrific pedal!

I love the BBE Sonic Maximizer. "Always on more better" is the best way to describe it. I bought it when it came out because it fascinated me and it's never left my board. Right at the end of my signal chain after the top-bread-buffer. Can't live without it.
Mike Pittman same. Ordered the vibrato the day the behringer video came out. Amazon just emailed saying it will be available near the end of this month.

Hey Josh, thanks for making my morning coffees that much more enjoyable. Such generosity of spirit is rare in this domain. As someone living in Australia, I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the pedals made by MI effects (Australia) and Red Witch (NZ) or any other southern hemisphere designers for that matter. Take care.
I installed a humbucker to the body of my banjo under the skin to electrify it. It was really low output because of the distance from the strings so I used a BBE acoustimax to boost the signal. I could totally dime every control and it would make no noise at all, literally zero hiss or hum. Mega impressed. One of my favourite mid 2000 albums is 'no balance palace' by Kashmir.
After he did the behringer video I couldn't find several of those pedals for months and the prices jumped on a few. I just now am able to get the uv300 after a special order because literally every store in the area, eBay, and Amazon sold out.
I have a Free Fuzz. It was a great sounding Fuzz Face, till it just flat stopped working. Now it makes no noise, but puts off enough heat to melt cheese.
I have two sonic stomps, usually using just one but with split signal situations it's nice for dialing each channel differently, really nice for "replace bass player with pedal". I don't like having them at the end of the chain because I find overdrive pedals lose some of the front-of-amp-pushing ability, so I usually have it in front of the chain, and yeah, always on.
I put a Two-Timer delay on my board when I caught it on a stupid daily special at that one website, and it's been my favorite delay since. Had a drunk fall on my board and push one of the knobs into the pedal at an insane angle, and she still works perfectly. Can't say enough about BBE products.
I had a heart attack when you said this was the last episode. I felt lied to. I was squashed and squeezed. I said ‘wah’ and I screamed. I needed at least three boosts to get off the floor. But then you said it wasn’t true and I felt free. Not sure what I would do without our weekly visits.
Between Josh Scott and Johan Segeborn, there is never gonna be another “hidden gem” amp or pedal that goes unnoticed, and I love every minute of it. Quit blaming the prices skyrocketing on those guys, all they’re doing is shining light.
I would love to see a "pedals 101 episode" that would go into the difference between the physical parts that go into one of the JHS pedals (or any pedal). Like the difference between an op-amp and germanium and the pro's and cons of different components.
I love the BBE pedals - Opti Stomp and Boosta Grande have spent some quality time on my board. I also just got their acoustic preamp with the integrated Sonic Maximizer and it’s killer!
@@michaelkupfer3723 I got mine years ago for $25. Obviously how anything sounds is subjective, but they don't sound like shit at all. If you're not looking for a Univox/Shin Ei Super Fuzz deal, or just a straight up affordable FZ-2, it's probably the wrong pedal for you altogether and I'd likely agree that it sounds like shit for what you're going for. Hell, I'd say it sounded like shit when I would try using it in the wrong places. I'd never use it as my only fuzz. I have a Hyper Fuzz that I've had around forever. I could kind of use them together and cover the grounds completely, but I just use other fuzzes. I use the Behringer instead because it does more by accident than the Boss does, and I can replace it. Once it breaks in, you get the Easter egg fuzz 3 setting by putting the switch between 1 and 2. Other than that, they only differ a small amount anyway, and you can dial that in easily. They only differ because I've never played two Hyper Fuzzes that were exactly the same and the Behringers are consistent, so I figure they have that going for them at the very least. It's definitely over the top, unless you're trying to play some Smashing Pumpkins or you're looking to Dopethrone the thing haha. I don't use fuzz 1 on it at all, and I keep the gain turned down on it on fuzz 2. They tighten up fairly well with an overdrive in front. The accidental 3rd setting in between them is all around better than both of them. At that point, you have a far more usable fuzz with parametric EQ. I still think any Super Fuzz based pedal will always be the least versatile of anything. Where it's a sleeper is that even those of us who love them will usually say that the boost setting is the best thing about it. It bypasses the volume control, but it's absolutely huge. The EQ and gain controls allow you to do anything you want with it at that point. I've talked to so many people who have bought FZ-2s for the boost setting and nothing else. I knew the boost was great, but I never knew it was that great.
The Opto Stomp is great on bass guitar too. Can you do a series on bass pedals one time? Or how about typical bass pedals that are actually nice on guitar too, or the other way around.
Those maximizers/sonic stomps were amazing in the fx loops of high gain heads too. People used to rag on them big time, but they were using them wrong. I loved mine. One of those things you didn't miss until it was gone.
the bbe tremor tremolo has been a permanent fixture on my board for years. i also dig the worm phase pedal ,and the 2 timer delay a lot. the guys make great stuff
I really like the Tremor, it creates a convincing fake-stereo effect at high volume. I use it mainly with delay, volume pedal, and a little drive for floaty ambient sounds.
I have watched your videos for some time now. I have been meaning to tell several things I like about your channel compared to so many of the other RUclips channels I watch. I'm an OLD guy from Alabama, that has played music, guitar and done audio for over 50 years in the past and I always learn something from you. 1st - You are a manufacturer of pedals that educates on all pedal types and all brands. You are not just an infomercial for JHS Pedals. 2nd - Your Production quality is awesome. 3rd - Your Lighting quality is awesome. 4th - Your Audio quality is awesome on both voice and instruments. 5th - Your Content is always interesting and informative. Thank you for taking time out of your busy weeks to educate the seeking like myself. Sorry It's so long!
wolfmother- wolfmother 2005 changed everything for me. changed my life, and my entire view of music production. made me pick up a guitar again for the first time in years, at that point. haven't stopped since.
Josh, Sincere gratitude and respect for sharing your knowledge and giving us a comprehensive look at BBE Pedals. I’m grateful that you obsess on the details of these and the other devices that you review. I’ve made no secret that I LOVED your BEHRINGER review, and I think you do the best job of sharing your knowledge on the internet without being condescending to viewers who are discovering these pedals for the first time. Thanks for taking the time to prepare well and present in a way that is relatable to all of us. There are others attempting to do similar presentations but no one does it better than you.
I loved the sonic maximizer. It was great for live sound. My understanding was that it slightly slowed mid and low frequencies allowing the highs to hit your ears first. Added clarity. Then you could add back some lows with the low contour knob. It was legendary when it came out.
The magic of the Sonic Maximizer is addictive and can never be unheard. With out it, your speakers sound like they are covered with a blanket. Simply put this in any rig, and it's like removing the blanket. My friend let me use his in 2006. I bought me one to pull off the blanket. I've used it ever since. Mine looks like it fell out of a truck doing 90 down the interstate. Still sounds like the day I bought it. They are bullet proof. And the pedal sounds better than the studio rack version! True story!
And thank you for acknowledging the "Josh factor" on cheap pedal market pricing. BTW, I noticed in one case, it's not a permanent bump. Right after you did the video that included the Behringer Super Fuzz, the prices about tripled. But recently, I've seen them back down to nearly "pre video" prices.
I’ve had a Green Screamer and a Mindbender for quite sometime. Love them. I want to hear this Sonic Maximizer magic. Probably going to be my next purchase
Saddly, i don't live on the US. But if i could live there you bet i could try to get a job on JHS. Not because is a great pedal makers, is because i like the history behind the pedals and the relationship between them. Is always a great pleasure listen your stories Josh.
BBE circuit for the Sonic Maximizers is a Must for a PA system. It time aligns the crossover points where issues happen even w/the very best speakers it seems it adds Low & Highs but it's revealing your sound , like taking a blanket off your PA system. Great on Drum buss too.
Silent Alarm by Bloc Party! Expansive, immaculate, and still fresh to hear now, from start to finish. And to quote one critic : "Bloc Party offered a refreshing sound because while they were making a rock album, they were heavily influenced by house, club, and disco music, which allowed them to find sweeter grooves and rhythm than most other alternative acts".
i threw my black coffee against my egg shell white wall in a fit of rage when you said it was your last episode ever, then i heard you were joking LOL. now i have to paint my wall
Wow! You had me fooled with that last episode stunt. I was gonna come out there and give ya a beating. I look forward to your new episode every week. I could be in the worst mood ever and your show always makes my day better. Thank you Josh.
I'm a bass player and have a Sonic Stomp just before the end of my signal chain on my Pedal Train 2 floor rack. I also have the first generation of it that has RCA connectors for which I had to buy cumbersome 1/4" phone jack adapters at Radio Shack so I could use it on the homemade board I had at the time. The Sonic Stomp DOES give clarity, boost, and makes phasing corrections that bring out a fuller low end w/o creating a wall of mud, much like the Envelope Filters that record producers used to do the same thing before the Sonic Stomp. If this pedal sounded any sweeter, it would attract bees and hummingbirds.
Hey Josh and JHS-team. I just bought the Sweet Tea V3 to put in front of my blues jr. and I must say it’s amazing! Both with my strat and LP. So thanks for putting it out there!! 😄
My favorite albums of 2006 Comets on Fire - Avatar Decemberists - The Crane Wife New Pornographers - Twin Cinema Pink Mountaintops - Axis of Evol Right around there I was also WAY into Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends (2007) Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (2007, but not as good as Funeral) Sufjan Stevens - Illinois (2005) and the Best album to come out that year LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem (2005) Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People (2005) 2005-2007 were a time of massive change in my life. some of these albums are intrinsically linked to some very happy days.
I love this channel. Incredibly informative, entertaining, and high quality content. It's clear you care for the consumers and want them to have the best product for their needs, even if it's not made by JHS. Hats off to you my friend.
You didn't cover the best one. BBE Mind Bender Chorus. Arguably one of the best chorus sounds on the market if you're going for that fast John Scofield jazz fusion kind of sound.
I've had two Green Screamers come past my repair bench last year and I was floored by the tones from both of those. Both were missing the battery covers. Looks like an improvement in design would have been a good idea for a reissue. Overall great pedals.
I have a Sonic Stomp and a Soul Vibe. Both are really cool. Funny thing, I used to live in Brazil and "bosta" means "shit" in portuguese. So the Boosta Grande was a funny name to us. I remember the later releases with funky graphics and the Boosta Grande had a bull on it. I always wondered if it was an intentional play on words, like "bullshit". BBE is awesome.
My neighbor's older brother drove me and him to school everyday on his way to high school. In his truck was the first time I heard Demon Days, Stadium Arcadium, 10000 Days, Good News for People Who Love Bad News and a bunch of other great albums. Up to that point I was mostly listening to classic rock and oldies cds that my parents had. It made me really want to seek out new music which made me sign up for youtube in like 2007. Really that's where my "musical journey" began

And he does it again. Behringer Super Fuzz is now averaging $75 or more! Thanks Josh.
It's not even worth 7,50$. Sounds like shit, no matter what JHS says
Fucked me up at the end for a sec telling me this is the last video... I love these video. His passion for pedals is contagious.
Great stuff. That "Free Fuzz" sounds amazing.
the bbe tremor tremolo has been a permanent fixture on my board for years. i also dig the worm phase pedal ,and the 2 timer delay a lot. the guys make great stuff
I really like the Tremor, it creates a convincing fake-stereo effect at high volume. I use it mainly with delay, volume pedal, and a little drive for floaty ambient sounds.
Boys and Girls in America by the Hold Steady...just a great guitar album
I agree
THANKS!!!!
Mid 2000's albums: Wilco's "A Ghost Is Born" has some sick, sick guitar tones.
wolfmother- wolfmother 2005 changed everything for me. changed my life, and my entire view of music production. made me pick up a guitar again for the first time in years, at that point. haven't stopped since.
Watching JHS videos while I eat. Nodding head up and down to every pedal demo. Those riffs are killer.
“I Turn My Camera On” is one of my faves.
Really cool of you to be a fan of other pedal makers and to be secure enough to talk openly about it.
I loved the sonic maximizer. It was great for live sound. My understanding was that it slightly slowed mid and low frequencies allowing the highs to hit your ears first. Added clarity. Then you could add back some lows with the low contour knob. It was legendary when it came out.
I was actually soldering up a kit when you made the joke at the end ... nearly burned myself with my iron ! glad to have you back Josh !
i really like the visual design of these original ones!
Yeah, they kind of screwed that up later with "funny" comic book illustrations.
11:10-11:20 the little silliness just made my day. :). Needed a little chuckle today.
Tender Buttons by Broadcast. Really nice mix of abrasive electronics and pop smarts.
One of my favorite albums of all time
The magic of the Sonic Maximizer is addictive and can never be unheard.
Or you can just buy it new for $20
@@wolfman92097 I've been looking on Amazon and Musician's Friend for months and they're basically always out of stock
I’ve had a Green Screamer and a Mindbender for quite sometime. Love them. I want to hear this Sonic Maximizer magic. Probably going to be my next purchase
Mid 2000s? Three words: The Mars Volta.
Bruh. Yesss.
Saddly, i don't live on the US. But if i could live there you bet i could try to get a job on JHS. Not because is a great pedal makers, is because i like the history behind the pedals and the relationship between them. Is always a great pleasure listen your stories Josh.
Love my Sonic maximizer! It brings out more life and dynamics.
If I'm not mistaken these actually introduced high end distortion into the signal to create artificial harmonics.
Thanks for the BBE history! An extra helping of love goes to JHS Pedals for keep'n real. Cheers Josh
11:07 you cannot hide from Zakk Wylde, he hears all pinched notes, no matter where he is
I really like the way you play man. The green screamer riff was especially entertaining. Thanks for making my day.
RaceU4her I hope this was true
Wow!
You had me fooled with that last episode stunt.
I was gonna come out there and give ya a beating.
I look forward to your new episode every week.
I could be in the worst mood ever and your show always makes my day better.
Thank you Josh.
Silversun Pickups, Carnavas, 2006. It's a wall of sound. Love it.
Fun fact: Bob Crooks who founded Standel was the designer of the sonic maximizer
Hey Josh and JHS-team. I just bought the Sweet Tea V3 to put in front of my blues jr. and I must say it’s amazing! Both with my strat and LP.
So thanks for putting it out there!! 😄
I love pedals, but I won't be able to afford BBE pedals for the next few months now... I'd better buy up all the DOD before you do a video on them.
My favorite albums of 2006
Comets on Fire - Avatar
Decemberists - The Crane Wife
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Pink Mountaintops - Axis of Evol
Right around there I was also WAY into
Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends (2007)
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (2007, but not as good as Funeral)
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois (2005) and the Best album to come out that year
LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem (2005)
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People (2005)
2005-2007 were a time of massive change in my life. some of these albums are intrinsically linked to some very happy days.
I love the BBE sonic maximizer im still using it on my board
EXCUSE ME SIR, but Mario Kart was good starting with the Nintendo 64.
^glad to see we’re on the same page
EXCUSE ME SIR, Mario Kart was good on the snes...
@@paperbea I'm not saying it's a bad game, but the n64 perfected the style. All games after are based off of that one
These are all things that needed to be said

OFF MY LAWN
Spot on. The last pedalboard I built for live had every BBE pedal on it. Looked cool and weighed a ton.
Drop the Boss Video: I buy All Boss Pedals...
Drop the BBE Video: I should buy BBE Stuff 🤣👌
Have you done your all-Behringer board yet?
@@quintas66 fuuuuck noooo.... Noooo🤯🤣
Very cool! Thanks again for broadening my pallet! I personally like the Boosta Grande with the bull painted on it.
The bypass signal for a few seconds,
is always appreciated before the pedal is engaged.
NEW VID *clicks immediately*
My neighbor's older brother drove me and him to school everyday on his way to high school. In his truck was the first time I heard Demon Days, Stadium Arcadium, 10000 Days, Good News for People Who Love Bad News and a bunch of other great albums. Up to that point I was mostly listening to classic rock and oldies cds that my parents had. It made me really want to seek out new music which made me sign up for youtube in like 2007. Really that's where my "musical journey" began
Here's a conspiracy: Why is your amp set to 666?
asking the real questions. I assume, he once played Stairway to Heaven backwards on it and now the potis are stuck
Metal!
You are a huge nerd! And this is so awesome and fascinating of a channel. Lockdown has got me back into playing some guitar and I came across your channel. You are a true master of your craft and living database for pedals. Love the channel!
