This video saved us $100's. As mentioned in some of the comments, placing the O ring seal on the dishwasher side is the way to go. Even still, it's a pretty tough lift to install the new one. Placing a folded towel on the lower edge of the right side opening gives a cushion to protect your forearm while you lever it into place with your arm. Thank you! It's so nice to have a video for precisely the problem you're dealing with.

This was an *extremely* helpful video. Just replaced my diverter valve and am running a test cycle now. The comment regarding putting the gasket ring on the dishwasher side first was very helpful. I'd recommend adding a pop-up text during the video to highlight this.
It was also helpful to have two people lifting and twisting the replacement part back on. It is a tough angle to get leverage to push up evenly around the entire part while twisting it into place.
Great quality video. Good camera work, lighting, focus, and narration. Well done and thanks for making it.

thanks for the video with your help I just fixed a Bosch SMV53L00GB. Some notes to help others, 1) The O ring was a pig, on this appliance there is a lip on the sump. Lube the o ring with detergent and put it on the lip of the sump first. When pushing up onto this make sure it's not trapped and is cleanly inside the distributor. then a slight clockwise motion will click it in place. Had no luck following the video mehtod on this part of the job. 2) Also the connector to the distribitor cannot be accessed from left side of machine you have to go via the front lower panel on this model. 3) because of this I had to leave heat pump attached until unhooked to get access to the clip to break the old clip off. hope this helps someone!

How much pressure did you have to excerpt to place the diverter up to latch it when you had the "o"ring in the correct place? I can reach it all from the left side of the machine, I'm right handed to trying to figure what would be best to make it as easy as possible for this old man....

with it in wrong place I was nearly stripping flesh! right place not much! we got machine on left side so ring did not drop off. got the part party in and went around with helpers finger to check it the ring was not protruding. mare. a slight wiggle got the ring to go down inside the rim of the part and then finally it engaged. top tip do a dummy run with no ring you well then understand the force needed. good luck

@@garyfozzard Thanks for the response. I did a dummy run w/o the seal, it was real easy to place the diverter on as it was supposed to be, if I understand you correctly, I place the seal in the correct place and when you place the diverter up onto the part where it goes you say to wiggle it a tad to kind of get the seal inside the diverter? Do I have that right? Thanks again, much appreciated.

@@benk4881yes correct. seal on the lip of the sump first we put a slight amount of soap liquid on that seal, then slowly bring up the part making sure the seal slides down within the edge. it’s then a similar force to latch it.

I agree with @laanshokanson1380; great video and I appreciate the comment on the gasket. Even with this though, I wasted a ton of time trying to lift and tighten the diverter. I ended up making a lever on the right side that my wife pushed on to press the diverter up while I pushed up and tightened from the left side. That took no time and fixed it. Thanks again

Excellent video, and beautiful quality, always in focus and well lit showing the important points... except one. It would have helped a lot to know that the gasket must be placed around the lip at the sump edge, NOT tucked into the valve replacement housing as it seems to be from your video. I don't know how you did that, a lost a lot of skin and time trying to force that unsuccessfully. Note that I had the servo motor fail (probably) used this video to replace the entire valve after a failed effort replacing the heater pump. Edit: Dishwasher works great now!

      Good point!
Honestly, I had a hard time installing it.possibly due to wrong location of gasket, finally figure it out on this video editing I spend quite sometimes to cut unnecessary videos , possibly cut that area of video.
      Thank you for your feedback!

Thanks for the good quality video. However, informing people to reuse the old gasket for the new distributor is not a good idea; especially since the reason is for a leak. The new gasket is actually easy to install; it needs to be installed on the dishwasher side first, not the part. You need to apply a little water on it, then roll it up around the outside of the cylindrical hole where the part goes. Lastly, regarding the two harness connections on the motor (circulation pump), they do not need to be removed at all, once the motor is removed it can be set aside to the left until the distributor has been installed.
    Cheers

Thank you. I appreciate your advice . I always like to use new gasket with new part . On this particular unit I was having a hard time reinstalling the new gasket . So far it has been couple of months with old gasket We did not get a recall but I saw there was other guys also mentioning that gasket needs to be installed on the lip of sump , I m still learning 😁
      Have a wonderful day ✌️

How did you get the pump hose and motor hose to line up at the same time? The video is edited at the point I'm stuck at.

were you able to actually see water leaking from the distributor?
I was looking so many times at Bosch dishwashers for leaks and monitoring for more than an hour, and never was able to see the source of the water (unless its from the water valve)

It’s always water valve , this kinda problems are out of catch , it’s on/off leakage that’s why we replace it . Yes there was calcium build up where it was leaking .

Placing the "O" ring on the upper part, how hard is it to then slide the diverter over it and have the tabs click? I spent 2 hours trying it and come to find out that that the new diverter was actually defective, the middle part of it had some broken plastic in it. When the 2nd new one comes in i'll be back a it again, wish me luck.....
