As the last speaker on the proposition Michael Irwin begins by saying he himself would be interested in the option to have a doctor assisted suicide. He mentions he has accompanied people to Dignitas in Switzerland two of which were terminally ill and had dignified deaths, another was a man who was severely disabled and the last was a personal friend of his with progressive arthritis. He says that this isn't an issue of law but one of a human right. He states that the opposition says that this is a slippery slope, but this is a good slippery slope that will allow the terminally ill, the disabled and the elderly to have comfort in a choice to end their life on their own terms. He concludes that when you think about it, good palliative care is an example of doctor assisted dying.

If you have a right to life, you should have the right to not live.
Why should someone be forced to live if they don't want to no matter what?
Hello mr propaganda man. Do you feel good about yourself?
@@TryingtoTellYou🤡🫵
@@orangeorangeorange5075 Annoying and orange. How original.
@@TryingtoTellYouIf someone wants to die. They should have that right.
@@TryingtoTellYou Do you anything to contribute either from the mind (rational) or the heart (compassionate). So far it's just trash talk.

ME TOO GIRLIE 💋
What if you simply do not want to grow old and frail? What if you simply want to control how and when you die ?
I honestly think this option should apply to more than just the terminally I'll people.
To me wasting away in a nursing home or stuck to a bed all day is worse than death.
Sadly you live in this inconvenient little thing called reality where none of that is actually possible.
@@TryingtoTellYouIt's not possible when you become an invalid and can't move your fingers. Before that, it should be written into one's will.
@@TryingtoTellYou It is possible in some countries like Canada and the Scandanavian countries. Different countries create different "realities" for their citizens.
extending someone's life expectancy is just a stupid way of postponing death by
allowing more suffering
True
Agreed
Facts
Who's extending someone's life expectancy? I did not realize it was against the law not to get hospital treatment lol.
We were forced into this world, why shouldn't we have the option to opt out on our own terms?
One shoe doesn't fit all, it doesn't make sense that the happy and better of ppl diside to force you to live.
I have a debate in my English classes about this tomorrow and nervous because English is not my first language
Never feel panicked most people don’t know what is going on anyway so English not being your first language probably won’t matter.
lmao same but in a few hours
mine is tomorrow pliss helpp😔🙏
He is absolutely correct.

He is right

It's so true as well it's especially important for people who have no idea when it's going to end.
especially if the patient is named Kokeb Crocker.
Nah people in these comments rly saying to just let people die if they depressed. Like bro? U guys talking as if depression is not a LITERAL MENTAL ILLNESS.
🤡
So if it is a "literal mental illness" and some people are incurable, obviously, then why not let them go? All depression cannot be cured, did you know that?
This is what happens when people don't actually bother to improve their mental healthcare facilities and actually try to help people. I get that assisted dying would make sense when someone is terminally ill, but allowing people to just die just because they wanted to? Isn't this the same thing we have been trying to prevent for decades through mental health programs???
The same "mental health" programs are the thing making me want to kill myself for the past 5 years...
@@gamer546lg5that’s why I got Nembutal 😞😞
You are making a claim that the only kind of person who would want to die has to be mentally ill. This is tautological. What if someone just weighs out the positives and negatives in life and thinks that death is preferable to life? What right have you to tell another person whether they should live or die? Should people live for your sake?
When you send a soldier to war. .. he signs the line knowing he may die. And believe me we think of this when we land. We dont have fear of what you find the most fearful. Where is your faith? Don't you trust that you will have a heaven waiting for you. Or is it that you know you won't have that and your running from yourself.
You think those poison pills they just invented are going to "fix" everyone's minds? They barely know how the mind works. Many rich and famous people with access to all the best doctors around the world kill themselves. Also, what about people with serious medical conditions, do you know what it is like to have ALS?
