    This is one of best things to ever happen to Canada. We've got along way to do to ensure access on request for everyone without requirement for terminal illness. Eventually we will succeed.

      That is demonic of you to say. I hope, someday, you can see that you are basically defending eugenics, like some of the worst regimes in the history of man kind. You are not so different from those who perpetrated those atrocities, and you are now defending the beginning of it.

    My father's medically assisted death (due to mesothelioma) was the most incredibly humane, gentle death imaginable. As he drifted into the deepest sleep of all, we physically felt a peacefulness wrap itself around the whole house.
    Why do animals deserve the mercy of a peaceful, quick, assisted death to release them from their suffering, but humans don't?

    • @SOULRELIEF22
      @SOULRELIEF22 7 месяцев назад +3

      SOULS LIVE FOREVER!
      Animals have spirits but not souls. Nor did JESUS die and rise again to save animals from the lake of fire. ONLY mankind!
      "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." Hebrews 9:27!
      If the murdered person had no say in the execution, that's another matter.
      We can NEVER be more compassionate than GOD who created us. MANY times we suffer to find JESUS for deliverance, and ETERNAL LIFE in PARADISE! 🙏🏼❤️

      @@derks0 Fair to who, and using what standard of fairness? Is there literally any reason other than "they have potential" and "others would feel bad" that that you can use to justify "they shouldn't be allowed to die"? Or is that reason enough for you? It's not for me. You may have a problem with it, but you are not that person (or me. Going on 42 years and my thoughts on wanting to die have not changed in the slightest, and I've seen psychologist, taken meds, ect. am), and you are 100% not going to give that person what they need, if they can or want to helped. You've got your own life to live. You probably don't even see when the people around you START to have issues, which when you should be helping so that it doesn't get worse. You've got your own life and your own problems. It's not your responsibilities.
      that's slipping your mind when you share your feelings on the subject. You can't just say "you shouldn't die because it's not fair to someone else or you potential responsibility" this issue and let someone else deal with the responsibility. You can't "personal responsibility" this issue and put it on the family alone. They may be part of the problem. They may be too busy to deal with problem. They may not have the money to deal with problem. They may not have been taught HOW to deal with problem. They may see the problem as something to be ashamed of, and taught the one suffering to feel the same. Any or all of those things more are LIKELY in the United States. Not just "possible", but LIKELY.
      it may seem unfair to you that people might act on wanting to die, but you can completely disagreed their feelings of fairness in order to prioritize your own, you may feel strongly, but so what? That doesn't help anyone. Why are your feelings are more important? What will you personally do about it, not not as a hypothetical for if someone you know has problems, but for the broader reality that person actually live in? Will you constantly push your "representatives" (I use that term loosely because they represent monyed interests, and communicating with public to even find out what their interests or demands are is not something most do) to work towards social solutions? Will you donate your time or money to help others you don't know? Or will you just moralize and leave the responsibility up to "someone else" who can't afford it, probably doesn't even know there's a problem, ect? How is what you are doing fair? How is what you argue fair? Fair for who? According to what standard of fairness? Your feelings or something more concert?
      I'm all for improving healthcare to include public mental health care (and every other type of health care). The people who can and want to be helpd deserve it. This not something that should be left up to individuals to deal with because the resources, time and energy it takes to deal with it are not things most people can afford. The social stigmas also need to be gotten around, which won't happen "because personal/ family responsibility." But even with all of that, some people do not want to be helped, and some require so much help that it becomes a burden to those around them from hating the fact that they are considered "leeches" by society (mostly right Wingers) for not being able to keep going without a lot of support. Some people like me, don't want to do the equivalent of "thoughts and prayers" in the hope that life will become worth living. Not all of us want to go for another 10, 20, 30 years to find out that, just like the previous 10, 20, 30, 40 years, it was a waste of time, energy and just wasn't worth the suffering.
      You may not like it, but so what? What are you going to do about it? CAN you do anything about it? That's hyperbolic. You can't help me and neither anyone else, relative, professional or otherwise. Even if they could, i wouldn't want it. I don't see the point, and I actually looked for one; the point is something very individual must find for themselves, but not everyone does, and not everyone wants to distract themselves for their whole lives.

    I get that I am apparently a minority in my own country, but I am not sure I like MAID being extended to those with mental health issues. I am on disability for mental health issues right now, and with the constant rise of essentials such as rent, food, etc, it really feels like the government is happier to help us die than to help us live (and I really would rather live). If your only choices are die painlessly, or live freezing out on the streets... well, it isn't much of a choice. :(

It's called decay. People rightly request to leave this earth. It's not their choice to be born, they should at least have a basic human right to chose to opt out. Human being make living so impossible and suffering and pain so easy, that it is no longer deniable that it's forced life... And unfair. Who would want to stay on this earth? Really... Not a single moment has passed in my lifetime that wasn't filled with pain hurt and disappointment caused by others. Oppression, slavery, loss of everyone around you... No love.. no hope... Who wants to endure war after war, blood filled streets? Who opts for that is just in my opinion insane.

    Death is not dark. Death is as beautiful as birth. Life is the only aspect of existence we have the capacity to influence… sometimes even shape, though that comes with great power and good fortune. Death is what allows many of us to truly separate from a body bruised, battered, and cluttered with memory… both traumatic and euphoric. Regardless of which end of the spectrum you experience life through, it is very very intense. Even more so for those who are highly sensitive.
    The notion that death is dark is a misnomer. Life is continuous. The body isn’t and the body is the only aspect of our present existence that experiences death. But separation from this body and all of its ailments… to be one with the universe again, there is no greater fulfillment. Ask anyone who had a near death experience.

    Wasn’t long ago a doctor took an oath to “do no harm”. Many seeking assisted dying are doing so because there is no help. If I am denied my post cancer pain control after radiation melted massive nerves in my left ganglion area causing “electrocutions” every day! The stigma and the prejudice when a cancer patient in agony is treated like a drug addict is evil. Perfect,y good effective medications available to control this pain. I had to sell my paid in full humble home in the town I was born in (finally home) and move 800 km north to a Nurse Practitioner who doesn’t label patients and treat case by case as it should be. My cancer related radiation induced nerve damage is so well documented. But the doctors down in Chatham and Sarnia refused to take my urgent need for continued pain control after my doctor retired. Cancer patient forced to sell and move is wrong!! I miss my big yard, my apple trees, the friends I had made etc etc. Narcotics do have a proper place in medical care of severe pain. Nerves melted and will never stop misfiring. 18 months of horrible nerve block needles into my head, 4 surgeries to cut ablate external nerves, a wire stim implant couldn’t stop the tazzering. Even brain surgery could not stop the electrocutions surgeon said the ganglion was a melted mess like chewed bubblegum he could not identify which nerve was which. No options left but medication. My condition is called “suicide disease” because the level of pain is unbearable but my cause is not typical it was radiation melting burning the nerves and my teeth were turned to putty and all removed. As a Canadian who has suffered with mental illness for the majority of my life, I can see both sides of the argument. However I agree that there must be a decent record of various treatments to combat the illness, that have failed before MAID is even an option. I'm not dismissing the ability of someone with mental illness being able to make a decision, but I know from experience that there can be a lot of factors that can quickly change the decision. I also fear that in more cases you would have vulnerable portions of society at a greater risk, and what I mean is individuals who don't have family support, financial means, access to proper care will be more likely to want MAID and that would be a failure of society to properly support and combat mental health as there are still many barriers. I do think it is important for MAID to be an option but the criteria must be more extensive in cases where mental illness is the issue, and I also don't believe that all illnesses that fall under mental illness should be an option or at least have a different set of criterias. Lastly I would add that in cases of mental illness there should be a standard of more than one provider agreeing to it, that to me would help with the validity and to stop someone from "shopping around". I have no concerns regarding the current use or situations with it in Canada.

    when the catholic church controls palliative care AND a lack of hope could get a person labelled as mentally unfit, the compassion gets tossed out of the window. the catholic church is playing gatekeeper and that's not okay. a family member had to pay to be moved from hospice to the hospital to get MAID just because the facility, being owned and operated by the catholic church, wouldn't allow the procedure to take place there.
    let me stress this point: my family member had to pay to be moved from hospice to the hospital
    the catholic church should not be forcing people to abide by the religion and they shouldn't be able to give diagnoses based on their religion's criteria. that's not compassionate. that's not ethical.

      Please see my reply to “echo foxtrot…” above. I wish I could edit it. Rough patch for me, so this may be disorganized or repetitive, with typos. On a good day I can do my former best - today is not that day. People often are ignorant of how difficult the situation is, how persistent, etc. Typically they react from their own fear or state for you the platitudes they believe make them into heroes for sharing what you’ve heard time and time again. I am NOT saying you should take the step under discussion [I would have no idea, only you ultimately with any deity of you have religious beliefs]. It’s only with a great deal of humility, that I might begin to imagine your pain [or someone else’s, or the person whom I know best, myself]. REPLYING to your concise summary of your own situation, I will likely write more length, having a very long rough time of my own. I am glad you spoke up, despite being sad at what you report/contributed here. I issue this reply to say two things: (1) I CARE about you. (2) Good for you for speaking up, as I tried to reply to a comment on October 15, to someone maintaining all depressed people are incapable of being rational [see above]. That’s not accurate factually and it may lead one to potentially greater suffering, or exhaustion. Some are logical/rational, some not… as with many people with other “diagnoses” or no diagnosis. Some of us are dealt multiple “bad hands” for no apparent reason. Above I referred in answer to the Oct. 15 comment by “echofoxtrot…” with reference to the reasoning of the Swiss Supreme Court [best read in the original, not my paraphrase]. It’s a jump online to the German; auto-translation [free] yields a good result; the last few pages deal with “mental illnesses” with particular attention to longstanding severe depression. The court from my reading considers it factually correct that many depressed people are “logical.” Sadly, while some of the organizations in that country may consider such a legally authorized application, it is not easy. But I can see why it should not be. They recognize that finances may dwindle precisely due to being unwell. And depending on whether that’s happened, it can be costly. They charge fees that make sense, given what they apparently actually do AND also they are legally prohibited from “profiting” financially in any way from assisting. The Swiss take safeguards seriously and need reams of supporting material, plus meetings with the actual human beforehand; this is a profound process and they know it. They require lots of documentation, evidence of rationality/logic, longstanding suffering, etc, and yet to avoid people being pushed or without actual consent to having their lives taken to please or convenience others, that makes sense. Further, it should be obvious but many people make the mistake of thinking these are “on demand” services “for a reasonable fee and some documentation”; but nothing could be further from how it works in countries in Europe [except maybe one of them, and then only for its own citizens; that nation, Belgium, allows euthanasia, including for mental agony/mental illness]. Switzerland does not allow euthanasia AT ALL, for anyone, and its federal Supreme Court states depressed people CAN be rational yet for many reasons these cases are the ones they insist be extremely strong and highly documented. No one who has “legal authority” to assist in a suicide in Switzerland is ever obliged to grant the request, either. They have to feel satisfied with documents and meetings with an applicant that this profound step [though we all die] is justified on humanitarian grounds. Some countries listed in *this video* [on MAID in Canada for mental illness] allow euthanasia but I believe none allows it to a foreign national; further, to be clear as I mentioned the country, euthanasia is NOT legal in Switzerland for anyone *regardless of nationality*. In Switzerland one may get a provisional application completed but from *the start and to the end* one must be rational, logical, not feel pressured. If a person is without any supportive family [or has lost all family members or never knew them], friends can come, or if none, volunteer witnesses. The organizations - 5, I think - provide witnesses. While it’s legal in the countries they’ve listed, AND in Switzerland [and a few other countries listed] those assisting in this work are numerous on anyone’s particular case. The Swiss organizations in particular appear to be profoundly serious and will turn away people, sometimes allowing one to apply again later I think… And a significant percentage of those who get approved for assistance decide not to go through with it. No one pressures anyone, including at the last step. It is filmed in part or wholly, I suppose to prove it is voluntary and rational. These medical/pharmacy professionals are not “Lucy Letby” killers. [An accused ‘serial killer,’ a UK nurse who now has been convicted in connection with deaths of infant[s]. Afterward, your embassy [and local law enforcement] are informed for legal purposes. Some can manage cremation if acceptable, unless you want your body returned for some reason to your home country. 🌠 I find this is realism, and as such it is or can be kind, gentle, without the risk of failing in the attempt. The Swiss example - just one - entails many required steps that CANADA’s MAID LAW DOES NOT REQUIRE (creating a real danger of people feeling Canadanian society is now forcing them to die, which I most surely hope you do not experience now or ever, with what sounds like inordinate pain of long duration). PS, *I am not a troll *; * I am NOT encouraging you to leave earlier than your body will carry you forward. I TRY NOT TO BE JUDGMENTAL MYSELF, yet do think “reprehensible” the WORDS AND ACTS OF AN AMERICAN TEENAGE WOMAN [ 17 yr old ] who in the period 2010-2020 urged a teenaged boy to “get back” into his truck (with exhaust running into it) so he would die (and he did), *deserved strong punishment*. Such cruelty [shown in her case, fairly uncontrovertibly] is up there with the dismissive judgment meted out against people who like you, I imagine (do not know) would prefer their lives to be good again but cannot just flip a switch or “work harder”or “have a better attitude” or “find religion.” *Many of those with severe depression have during their lives already made themselves quite useful to others, and enjoyed life. They often have tried to stay there, or return there [or get there], with no luck*. Nor have they always had enough help, or competent help [whatever that means], even if they themselves did help others earlier in their own lives (and/or continue to try). *Life is not fair*. That said, *I wish to emphasize that I hope you do not continue to feel as you do now*.* I would not wish that on you, and probably not on anyone else. I think I might know some of what you feel… (humbly). Epistemologically what I can know is limited, which is why I believe in “safeguards” but not disrespect for others’ autonomy and humanity. I wish you peace. I don’t know why I care about others, only that I do. Nearly all that I have stated here already is on RUclips, posted as “content.” [That penultimate point is for the censors, “ if any’ including in algorithms.] I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND I RELATE TO YOU (epistemological problems aside), WHICH MEANS I HOPE YOU STAY, as long as your body allows. I TRY TO IMAGINE YOUR PAIN… NOT A STRANGER TO WHAT YOU SAY, nor to bizarre challenges, harm, “losses.” My making any of this about myself is selfish or self-involved; I own up to that. I HAVE KNOWN MANY DECENT PEOPLE WHO EXPRESS WORDS LIKE YOURS. Some remain. Coming to the united states soon here..maybe for some terminal illness..when there is no quality of life..your going to suffer with horrible pain..then I say yes I wouldn't want to live with a terminal illness..I'd want to get it over with quickly..I've been hearing rumors that there are other people on the list..people that they don't tell you..when I was in the library using the computer..I ran into an article that spoke about getting rid of people..handicapped people anybody with a disability..they don't care how small the disability is..they want these people dead or into state-owned institutions..elderly people over sixty..they don't care if these people still work..they are old considered useless worthless to society..homeless people are already coming up missing permanently..no one cares because they are homeless..they have been taking children away from people on welfare for years now..the library printed this article out.. before the site was taken down..yes I've been called crazy.. a conspiracy theorist that I should be locked into a mental institution..people with a mental illness is also on the list..I want to slap people awake..each state has its own laws..I'm in Arkansas and they already have been taking people away..I've seen state of Arkansas car's on my dead end Street..department of social services.. well over half of the people on my street ..are either elderly handicap or unfortunately on welfare.. I get Social Security disability and windows pension myself..

      That must be a hard choice to make, and I can understand the feeling of wanting to die, but I wonder if MAiD would be seen the same way if everyone had some mental disability... Do you think a society with more access and equal treatment would make it easier for people to live with mental disabilities, or is there another cause that you wish would change?

Even if you don’t want to continue, please please try to have some good experiences before you make up your mind. Absolutely insane. A depressed person can't think clearly. Since when do we pay doctors to stop saving patients. Of course it's for "the good of the patient". Really? Then do it at no cost.

    • @SilentRunningRedux
      @SilentRunningRedux 11 месяцев назад

      Most depressed people CAN think clearly, logically. The Swiss Supreme Court - federal not one canon alone but speaking for all - has explicitly allowed this based on FACTS about depression [and other mental conditions]. They are not wrong. They do address mental illnesses at the end of the decision, which you can find on Wikipedia in German and if you don’t read that language then BOTH GOOGLE & Apple have good auto-translation for free. The court DOES state there should be a particularly strong case made in cases of “mental illness.” They have safeguards while Canadians with mental illness may be as the presenters here say “looking to escape poverty,” bc disability benefits for mentally ill non-suicidal people are insufficient for most to survive on without supports from others, and not all have well-off supporters [family with money or friends willing to take them in].

      Not as insane as you pro-lifers along with the typical religious fanatics trying to prolong people's suffering while also not trying AT ALL to improve or fix the social circumstances/economic circumstances that make people opt for euthanasia. maybe we wouldn't be where we are now but yeah it's "absolutely insane" that people who have suffer for how long for not wanting to suffer anymore and deciding when they want to die on their own terms

    • @micgooflander95
      @micgooflander95 10 месяцев назад

      That's just completely untrue and prejudicial. If it were true, there would be no functioning societies any more, considering how high the prevalence of so-called 'depression' is, as everyone would either need to be tended to in a nursing home for the rest of their life, or staffing the nursing homes.
      We call the suicidal "depressed" to invalidate their beliefs and their will. Just as homosexuality was in the DSM as a mental illness to justify opposition of gay rights on the same kind of paternalistic grounds on which the right to die is opposed. In both cases, oppression against an individual's fundamental civil liberties is disguised as protection of vulnerable people who lack the capacity for discernment. Not surprising that someone with a picture of an eagle in their avatar would fall for that.

      Regarding the homeless thing: I believe you can in theory only get MAID when it’s available in hospital or hospice. The hospital or hospice would be the new ‘home’ for the homeless person so lack of address should not be an issue. For drug addicts I truly believe we can help them and they do not need to turn to MAID to end their suffering.
