Nice job, you used your head and it worked out for ya. Don't worry about anyone saying your doing it wrong. My first cabin I built was 40 years ago and I didn't build it the way you should and it's still standing today and dry as ever with people living in it, My last cabin was 22 years ago and I still have it and I have a friend living in it right now. Smart, building around your woodstove. Keep going the way you are doing, you will be "BUFF" in no time, lol. Thanks for sharing
I am willing to bet that your cabin will be standing years and years longer than some of these new construction builds I've seen by the professionals. I think you're killing it! Rooting for ya! -Lynn
Screws MUCH better than nails !!! Girl { and I mean that in the nicest way possible } You have TRUE GRIT and more Salt than most young men and women these days !!! You keep going and doing what you're doing.
I have never yelled for someone to accomplish something before. When I saw you sitting on the four wheeler I could see the wheels turning and you working it out in your mind. GREAT JOB 👍
The shear rate of a screw is way less then a nail. Screws are actually the worst thing you can use when building weight bearing structures. So you’re assessment is very wrong. That being said she is using the timberlok screws which do have a higher shear rate however as that green lumber drys it’s still likely to snap those screws all the same. It’s not the end of the world to use screws at all but they are not BETTER then nails. Not even close. A nail will always be better just based on weight bearing capacity.
Smart move from an old phart. Safety Glasses! Sitting on that Quad and backing up pulling that thin cable. If it snaps depending on where it snaps it could take out an eye or worse. I remember a rigger being decapitated when a much larger steel cable was undergoing load testing. He was standing in the wrong place when things happened. Be safe, you're doing great.
You do you 🥰They told this ole lady with physical limitations that I couldn't build my tiny house two years ago. I'm happy to say that I didn't listen. Heck no, it's not all done but we chip away at things as we go. So happy that I found your channel to enjoy the journey with you from afar. - Krista -
Well done, great job using the stud spacer and walking thr walls into place. You sre doingbs great job. Thank you for sharing. Stsy safe, hsppy snd healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Suffice it to say that we all think that you rock. Common sense will always prevail. You're amazing. You have a wall up! Keep on doing what you're doing but BE SAFE doing it. We;re proud of you and you get my "thumbs up". Come on guys. 7500 views but only 900 thumbs up? Thumbs up helps support her channel.
Watching you try to lift that first wall I wanted to jump in my car and go and help. However, you solved the problem and with two walls up getting the rest up will be a lot easier. Nice job, really nice job...
Your AWSOME!!! I’ve watched all your videos. Even those you have up with you and your husband. You are an inspiration. You remind me of myself when I was younger before I became disabled. No fear of getting hurt. I do believe you will get this build done. Please try not to get hurt because I want to see the next video lol😂. Yes you are very smart and skilled. Don’t get discouraged by trolls. Keep up the good work.!!!
Not a framer? Looks like you're framing. I think that makes you a framer. You may not be a trained, professional framer but you're a framer because you're framing. As for not doing it like others think is "right"..... There are dozens of ways to do things "right" so don't listen when others tell you THEIR WAY is the "right way."
Do your own thing! (make sure the screws are galvanized. using green wood will rust out the non-galvanized very quickly). You go this! Looking forward to the build. :)
I lived in kasilof for a couple winters. That stove will probably be more heat than you ever need lol. I had a tiny stove and had to open windows especially in the loft. You are going to love how good wood heat feels. Now I have a home in nikiski with natural gas. It's convenient but I love wood heat.
You are doing a wonderful job!, who cares what osha thinks!. I pretty sure i wasn't the only one who was helping you grunt ,and holding our breath when you were under the wall!. I mostly work by myself. Slow steady careful and calculated! Is much better than trying to be fast!
Go for it !! ...Do it your way. Good move on the stove. I was sweating bullets when you got under the wall with the support piece sitting on tarp. Wood on wood grabs better in that case. I would also suggest a safety addition, place a sturdy item 2' high or more under the wall so - if it goes wrong- you may be able to craw out. I survived a ceiling collapse because of a small pile on concrete blocks.
I have to do most of my building and renovations by myself around here as well. A good come-along with about 300ft of good rope and a farm jack are my best friends!
I'm very much not looking forward to doing this exact same thing (lifting up the framed walls) at the place I'm building. Heading out there next weekend. 2x6, 16' walls. Just the window & door framings were getting heavy on their own. Full 16' walls are going to suck. Was hoping the small rental place about 30 mins away would have wall jacks. Nope. They do not. Hopefully the ATV winch with a snatch block up high in the nearest tree option works. Likely doing it alone as well. 'Might' be able to round up a relative that's essentially a load bearing mammal to help out. Maybe. Some lady I was talking to a few weeks ago asked when I was planning on having it completed. I said, "Uhhh. Last year?" 😄 You got it done though. Sheer determination. Congrats on the progress.
As some on who has worked by myself mostly, I was shouting at the screen but seeing you figure it out inch by inch. I know that satisfaction of concoring something by yourself I was cheering for you when you got that first wall up. honestly I thought you had it on the first lift just needed to walk it forward a little.
You are doing a fantastic job. Please be careful..Just a hopefully a helping suggestion, screw down a couple of boards on the floor so when raising the walls your temporary supports can't slide out from under. I don't want to see you get hurt.
Hint : If your winch cable is too short (which it is by a long shot) tie a rope to the top plate by drilling a hole for the rope and tie the other end to your winch cable. Also, the rope has to go at an "upward angle" from the top plate and then DOWN to your winch with the use of a 2x6 that's 10'-12' vertically half way between the winch and top plate in order to lift the wall. I sure give you credit though because you don't stop 'til it's up. I like your style and fortitude.
Your braces on the outside are perfect being solo. Screws are the best to reduce twisting. The idea of nails on green wood makes me cringe lol. Hopefully no vapor barrier won't be an issue down the road. You are doing a great job to reach your dreams and you chose one of the best stoves out there. Please over kill the fire break, floor and assure manufacturers stack height and it should outlast the walls.🦋🌻🇨🇦
Very well done young lady. That short winch cable is your biggest problem. And the pulling cable SHOULD NEVER be flat on the surface of the wall because if it is then instead of pulling the far end up, you are pulling it horizontally. Try getting an extra (thick) rope on the end of the cable and attach an upright where the rope is and route the cable over that. You will probably have to stop, brace the top of the wall to stop it falling back down, slacken the rope and reset the pole and do it again. As they say, "Rinse and Repeat". Once the rope is at least a foot above the base of the wall when attached to the quad AND TAUGHT WITHOUT A POLE you should be OK to just pull it into place. NOT TRYING TO BE NASTY AT ALL but what you are doing is called "rigging" and it is a science that normally takes an apprentice 5 years of supervised training to learn under supervision before he MIGHT be able to do the job unsupervised. It can also be VERY DANGEROUS - AND TO HELL WITH THE SAFETY AUTHORITIES, it is YOUR SAFETY that most of us out here are worried about. Just keep on keeping on and just being YOU.
If you find you don't have enough insulation you can always add foam insulation to the outside of the building after words. Then put your house wrap and siding on over top. My parents did it to a house they built. And it made it warmer
Oh my God I am so freaking proud of you. This is called girl power right here. Hell yeah. I’m over here clapping out loud sitting and watching this when you got that damn wall up.🤣👌 you rock babe… your man watching from heaven is so damn proud and saying, “that’s my girl.” just like we all are.💖👌
You got it done! Maybe try putting a kicker on both sides and the then screw some cleats into the floor parallel to the wall As the wall rises the kickers drag over the cleats and fall down to support the wall until you can reposition to use your legs to lift further.. Best wishes!
I think it's important to reply to your viewer's, even if its atleast once. People make the time for you, you should try do likewise. In all your videos, you don't reply once but you have been blessed to hear such beautiful messages from your viewer's. I follow so many channels and found their success has been in their engagement. I wish you well🙏
I like to suggest a pulley and winch system , set up on temporary post from all side , may help you along the way. Cause yes you used a lever. But it was dangerous. Glad you got it done.
I am a new subscriber and I went back and looked at your earlier videos. I think you are so amazing. You remind me of my younger version. I'm 72 but still pretty independent. When I come to something new that has to be done I research it and usually take multiple precautions. God bless you, you are such a pretty young lady and very smart. Can't wait to watch more.
Great video! Consider adding in an Intro with a summary of what you're doing for new subscribers. Otherwise, great editing, timing, cuts, etc (I'm a film guy)... excited about your channel taking off!
A bartender. So did I for a few years. When learning I had to drink my mistakes. Peddling poison is what I used to call it. Anyway I only wish that I could be there with you helping you to fulfill your dream home. I will be watching, Ken
Nice work with the walls, if you had put a long 2" 4 next to the supports on the floor in which you broke the winch's line with a block, then you would have had a lift, so it looks like an upside-down V, here in Sweden we put a 2" 2 horizontally on the inside so you get a space for electricity and an extra layer of insulation before you put the wall board, that might be an idea for you, of course you get a little less surface inside but it might be worth waking up to 3-5 degrees warmer indoors in winter. Nice to see that the construction is progressing and nice stove you got hold of, looking forward to the next video
As someone who has done that professionally, you are awesome. Brave, determined, and smart. Would I have done some things differently? Maybe but what I like about you is you are doing it your way and getting it done and doing a good job. I would love to do what you’re doing. Maybe one day I can talk my family into moving up there and living off grid and enjoying the Alaskan wilderness. I know it can be hard but that is the story of my life. I love doing it my way and being self sufficient. Keep the videos coming they are a joy to watch.
Great stuff woman, you could put a lot of us men to shame. I would imagine myself and another 7000 subscribers, were , from our comfortable homes, mentally helping you to raise those two walls. You got there in the end, but you have to put your safety first, you definitely don’t need anything going wrong. Now take a well earned rest.
Good morning Kiddo . And happy belated 4th of July. And when you're doing something on your own you come across so many different curves, and trials and errors. And you have to figure it out on your own and for yourself. End of the videos I've seen so far you've done a good job overcoming doing everything hands on . Keep your head up keep moving forward don't let the haters be haters. And don't let him get in your head. And not too many people can or could live.and build their own homestead. And at the end of the day it's your dream not theirs . As long as your happy on what you getting done . That's all that matters. You have a blessed week
I really admire your drive and respect that you are building your dream. I can't wait to move there and start living my dream. Stay safe and never give up. I follow you and a few others on here and you plus them are very inspiring to many others, including myself. Stay strong.

You’re strength and determination are truly inspiring.
You're doing an amazing job!! Well done... Don't worry about what anybody else is saying, this is your cabin, so your rules. Cheers

Love your energy and spirit as well as your optimism and no nonsense building attitude! Keep building, awesome!
I.m 82 and the greatest lesson you've learned so far is ,you've got a head and you know what it's for . Now you also get to use basic physics .
Your doing a great job building and lifting those walls into place. We would have worked around the stove to! LOL
Using screws is much better for building anything...screws can't be pulled out like a nail could ...SMART OF YOU.

You are the one who's going to live in it. How many others have built their own home? You do you!
I love your videos! You are a bright industrial woman who is building her future. We own a homestead in NM and dream of one day living off grid.
Jesus, you’ve got some determination. Never doubt yourself

Dang girl, you adapted, improvised, and overcame. That's using your noodle. (and your back) True grit.

Wow , you are a hard worker. Ingenuity is working well for you. I have every confidence you will do whatever you want to do. You go girl go.

Great job getting that first wall up by yourself…..awesome.
You did it! You don’t give up. I like that.
Nice job! Impressive! You are both strong and intelligent.

Wow
I’m impressed with your dedication and hard work. I want to be doing what you’re doing in the future. I wish you the best.
Putting in the big heavy wood stove before walls is smart. Don't see many people doing it.
Girlpower! Wow, you are strong. Be careful though, looks pretty dangerous! 😘 that cabin will be up in no time!
Looking forward to seeing all the walls up and how you do the windows and door.. yay
Brilliant, Well done, Yes screws, Now Subscribed from New Zealand 😀
Awesome job! Using a longer level will help with making sure your walls are plumb
Hi K....great idea about the 2x4s...It will be easier to handle as well....Go Go Go🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I felt bad for you lifting those walls.
No bills, good job.

Put the plywood on after you get it up. It’ll make the sections lighter to lift.
Wow! Great job!

You’re getting it down. Great job!
Great job! You’re very inspiring. Thanks
I've lifted alot of walls solo as well. I do the log orybar style on each side and put something under to hold it. Slower but works.
Absolutely amazing❤
Nice job on the House so far.walls looking great
Great job, you go girl ❤
