    The reason for pressing the pause button at around 5:44, is because I needed to do a third pass of the silver, but just around the edge, which is the very first part of the plot. So I ran it and then stopped it before it starting doing anything else after the frame.

    Been thinking about an A1 Axidraw (I've got a V3) and whew this doesn't make me want one any less :D That plot looks incredible.

      Oh the A1 is so much fun, even if I do cheat and get it to plot four A3 plots instead, saves me a few seconds 😁

    The pen is all over the place. Are there SVG optimisers to prevent this.
    The total meters is the same, but it will presumably take less time to complete

      vpype can optimise SVG code and sort movements.

    Hello Dan, thank you for sharing this type of video material. Can you share the “plotter remote control” tool because it super useful stuff a specialty for understanding the time pen travel and see it in a real time.
    Unfortunately Axidraw utilities on Inscape soft doesn’t work well a specially if there is big size SVG file.
    Thank you for your time and help

    Looks great,
    I haven't located black paper for my SE/A1 as nice as the Black Black on this side of the pond either.

    When changing pens. How are you keeping everything aligned? I assume there are no endstops?

    • @revdancatt
      @revdancatt  2 года назад +2

      In this case I just switched the pens and hoped. The plotter will return to a zero/zero position, which most of the time is close enough. If I'm using pens of different sizes I have a simple plot that has marks in each corner of the page that I run each time I change the pen to calibrate.

    Nice work! What do you do with large sheets creased on arrival? I should really send them back but tend to end up cutting them down to smaller sizes. And thanks for sharing the approx metres/pen for the Signos. I know it'll vary slightly per pen and plot but that is super handy to know ✌

    • @revdancatt
      @revdancatt  2 года назад +1

      I do the same as you, I just cut the paper down, and use the rest for test printing. I should send them back but I can't be arsed, lol.
      I'm slowly getting better at tracking how much ink I get out of pens. It wasn't so much of a problem but now I've stepped up to A1 plotting there are times when I need to know if a pen can handle the plot. The TWSBI Eco pens are totally fine on a full chamber, but fountain pens that use a normal cartridge definitely have limits.

    I have an AxiDraw (just V3 A4 size) that I bought to do our Christmas cards last year. I ended up having a blast getting into the software side of things, going so far as to whip up a custom stroke font of my handwriting and a script that strings it together so that it doesn't lift the pen between characters, then goes back to dot and cross.
    While I was waiting for the plotter to arrive I found your channel and had the first inklings that "I should have bought the A3." That A1 is enormous. How fast can it reasonably run in comparison to the A3? Also, if I were to upgrade at some point, do you know what the real world difference is between the A3 and A3 SE? The central extrusion seems pretty stiff on my V3.
    I love all your work, by the way, and your channel.

      Hey Mark!
      I did the A4 or A3 back and forth and decided that in this case bigger was better, as soon as I started using the A3 I was trying to figure out ways I could move things around to get A2 plots out of it, lol.
      I don't have the SE/A3, I just have the "normal" V3/A3, as I didn't think it was worth paying extra for what I essentially thought was having it in a cool black colour. However, having used the A1 I think there's something to the SE.
      When I run the standard V3/A3 plotter, I tend to set the speed to running slower to make sure I keep sharp edges and good consistent lines. But the build of the SE/A1 just seems to much more solid that I can run it faster and keep the precision (if that makes sense). Even though they (Evil Mad Scientist) told me the A1 needed to be run slower, because it was bigger, I can run an A3 plot through it faster than my A3 version because I have more confidence in it.
      I'm sure in total it's just a case of shaving a few minutes off plots, but given my time again I think I would have paid extra for the SE/A3.

    Hello, Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I'm looking to invest in a plotter and this one looks to be the size that I would need for 16x20 canvas. Do you think it would work on a pre-stretched canvas?

    This looks amazing, have just started thinking about buying a plotter. I was wondering what the glass jar on top of the pen was for ?

    • @revdancatt
      @revdancatt  2 года назад +2

      Hah, I get that a lot. Most pen plotters (including this one, AxiDraw) let the pen drop onto the paper under its own weight. With the metallic pens I find they work best with an extra bit of pressure, hence the little glass jar. It's about the perfect weight to be a little heavy but not too much for the servo to lift up.

      @@revdancatt ahh that makes sense. Watched a lot of your videos, and read most of your blog after leaving this comment. I have been doing some creative coding on and off in Swift over the past couple of years, nothing that great yet, but wanted to say you have inspired me to get back to it and do more. Keep up the tutorials, vlogs, blogs, and wonderful artwork mate.

      The code was written in javascript by another Artist. You can see the project running here: www.fxhash.xyz/generative/slug/chaosplot the artwork allows you to download an SVG, which you can use to plot with, which is what I did here.
      But in short, straight JavaScript spitting out an SVG, no libraries.
