I'm going to be trying out a few different pens over the next couple of weeks. Any questions about the servo, how it's going or experiments you'd like me to try (within reason), drop 'em below and I'll do a follow-up.

Thanks Dan, that was excellent, just what I wanted to see.

I made the same mistake installing it , and I panicked for a moment - is it broken? have I destroyed it now? I switched the cable back and it started working - and so far no signs of damage! I'm a bit disappointed to hear this setup is louder, but I'm looking forward to finally exploring pencils as well.

Oh no, but also good to hear I wasn't the only one! I was even saying the colour order out loud as I did it. And yeah, pencils should be fun!

    pretty cool with the pencil.

Yeah, I've wanted to do stuff with a pencil for years, so this is a big step forwards.

Wow! I really enjoyed the detailed explanations! Quick question about the differences, would it make sense to buy 10 of the micro servo motors or 1of the ~$60 one?
Which option would be better if only quality and life-span is important?

Can you do a step by step how to for installing python3, axidrawcli, all the installations necessary to control Axidraw sans Inkscape!?

    Great video!
I'm curious about the pencils. I use the same pencils as you but I've never been able to get the auto feed to work. Do you think the force from the spring helps with that? And does the strength/ darkness of the line remain constant throughout the plot? I'm interested in anything you discover about using pencils and other dry media like charcoal. I do wish that we could get posca pens to work too - so I'm sad to hear the new servo doesn't help with that.

I think the force helps with the autofeed. A lot of my designs are made from long joined up lines, so it never has a chance to lift up, definitely works better with a design where there's lots of pen raising.
Going to do lots of exploring with charcoal. I expect it'll involve lots of breaking the design down into short bursts so I can resharpen and adjust it fairly often. Going to try with slightly less pressure too.
POSCA still out of reach, I know targz's machine is great with posca's but his is a custom built one.

@@revdancatt Thanks Dan. I'm very tempted. Looking forward to seeing what you do.

    I was just wondering:
I presume you've tested it with a 'rOtring Isograph Technical drawingpen' or 'Staedler Mars® matic 700' drawing pencil and fill one of them with white ink.
A few decades ago I used those for making technical drawing by hand at school. Maybe the tip of such a pen isn't durable enough for plotting.

I haven't used either of those pens yet. I see lots of people using the rOtring Isograph all the time and having great success with them. I have a Mars matic 700 in a box waiting for me to open it. Been in there about a year so far!

do you know of any UK stockists of the coreless / brushless server upgrade kit? From bantam the shipping is pretty expensive to the UK! thanks :)
