Speaking of noise, why does the axidraw have such high pitched melodic sounds? My DIY plotter (similar to axidraw v2) has almost no noise coming from the steppers... Different microstepping or something like this?
Depends on what stepper driver you have vs the AxiDraw. In the last few years drivers emphasizing silence have become popular and inexpensive. The EBB that runs the AxiDraw is a relatively older design and uses A4983 16X micro stepping motors. 256x micro steps have become more popular and are quieter. And drivers like some Trinamic's are explicitly designed to be quiet.
Oh it's amazing, and thanks for the reminder, I should do a year update. I'm going to wait the not-very-long time until I've had the brushless for a year too and do a video on both.
I think my first regular servo is starting to fail (or it just overheated? Is that a thing?), so I ordered a couple coreless servos to fit on my Axidraw SE/A3! The durability aspect really appeals to me, I'm not a fan of buying disposable electronics. I know there is a brushless servo too but that seems a bit overkill. Are you still using the coreless servo or are you exclusively using brushless servos? How do they hold up? Great video btw!
Ah, I was focused on the sound levels here. I thought about it, but the instructions on how to change the servo are detailed enough that I'd just be repeating those. You pretty much unclip a wire, pop out a couple of rivets, unscrew the unit and then put the new one on in the reverse order. Even I managed it and that was something. I'll add it to my to-do list though as I have a second one I need to switch out.
Hello! congrats on your channel... i also have an v2 but i don't know how to make it work... i have put...inkscape and the driver but the windows don't recognize it ....what else can I do?
Best place to figure it out is probably hop over to drawingbots.net/ and join the Discord, lots of people in there have loads of experience troubleshooting plotters! Good luck.

I love the melodic sounds! The servo noise can be a bit annoying but the stepper noise is super cool imho
Wow ! The noise difference is huge ! Bigger than I expected ! I’m definitely thinking about buying one 😇
Thanks Dan for the review !
Yeah, I didn't think it'd be a big as it was, still there but way less irritating now, lol.
Thanks Dan!
Any time!
Much better. Thank you
Yeah, it's really good.
Very informative, thanks!
Thank you!
You know, it's now been a year. How as it held up for you?

Worth upgrading for a longer life and less noise, or do you just shove the whole thing in a different room?
I don't mind the noise but my girlfriend does (and my cat is just intrigued), so guess I'll upgrade!

Great videos. I’m new to pen plotters and need to find out how to import line art drawings.
Can you recommend and vids?
There does need to be a proper video demonstrating changing out the servos. Either the old style or the new.
