      Reminds me of the Japanese car companies. In the '60s, they were mostly crap. By halfway through the '70s, they were easily on par or superior to the local stuff. But it took until the mid-80s and '90s to be recognised for that quality. Hyundai/Kia are currently equivalent to the Japanese '70s and '80s - still fighting the stigma of their country of origin, but their quality and value are phenomenal.

    Unless we have some sort of democratisation of wealth. None of us will be able to afford such things. Or at least very few. If everything comes to a monthly subscription and no one owns anything any more then only the corporations will own anything. The problem has always been the commoditisation of humans. The tech revolution has some big hurdles to get over. People what meaning stimulation. I didn’t grow up dreaming to be driven around I grew up dreaming of driving something. Of being engaged with it. I personally have no interest in just going for a ride and being a passenger. I want to feel I want to experience. Cars are actually getting pretty boring to be honest very disengaging.

  • @doublep1980
    @doublep1980 4 года назад +2

    Besides the lack of range and price, the biggest issue of EV's and this is something nobody talks about, is the fact that we will have to increase the production of electrical energy *massively* if we're gonna move over to EV from petrol.
    So, how are we gonna do this? By burning more fossil fuel or using nuclear power? Because, let's be realistic here, the renewable energy sources are in no way enough to cover the amount of increased electrical energy needed.
    Another thing, everybody likes to ignore, is the fact that we will need massive amounts of ''rare earth'' minerals to build all these millions and millions of lithium batteries. So basically, we're gonna replace petrol with another limited, natural resource that has to be mined and that will eventually run out. (Also keep in mind that these batteries don't work forever and have to be replaced after a number of years.)

    No thanks... Honestly. Auto braking to prevent rear enders should be the focus. I have not seen that accomplished yet. Nissan going down the Hwy and then randomly slamming on the brakes stopping on the Hwy for no reason is not accomplishing anything except disaster. Auto braking only working at speeds below 30mph is not a success. And on and on. And yet.. The engineers are skipping this most important task and going ahead with full blown autonomy?

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 4 года назад

      We are only at the first generation of safety features. Manufacturers will be competing to bring the best to market.
      In 10 years time cars will be fully autonomous it really just depends if governments give it the go ahead.
      One thing that can also be done with autonomous is that you drive the car like normal and if something dangerous is about to unfold the car can take over for the microseconds that make the difference otherwise you just do not know it is there.
      The advantage to this as well is that smart motorways could be set up with far higher speed limits than what is available to today. There is no reason why there could not be a autobahn style no speed limits on certain British motorways.
      The key to all of this is people dictating to government what is needed rather than the other way around.
