Facts. The voice direction in the remaster feels much more like the voice actors read too much of the script rather than sounding like it's a natural conversation with a hint of charisma. They should've not even touched the original base Generations in general and focused on enhancing the resolution and visuals for that alongside with the Shadow story arc 🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂
Kirk, at least for me, has improved with his voice for Shadow, I never really liked it back in original Generations but the newerish voice sounds better
Kirk is amazing in Shadow Generations he sounds awesome I think Kirk confirmed that Shadow Generations is the first time he really got to know Shadow in a meaningful way since the old material he was given is drastically different Just shows it was Sega and the writing at the time holding Kirk back

Sadly, he left for the same reason Laura Bailey did, they had a kid together in 2018, so with that and their Critical Role brand, they've been more picky about what roles they take, Travis seems to have done a lot less voice acting work overall, but Laura will do any project that she has interest in, but Blaze is barely in the games enough to make it worth her time.

Travis stopped doing anime, like a lot of Union VAs have, and he isn't in as many games and Western cartoons as his other CR cast mates have done since they became their own company. That's what I mean. (Except for Taliesin Jaffe, who has always been a more behind-the-scenes figure in voice over)
Back in the days of old, Mercer sounded similar to Baker to the point they used him as a replacement for Baker's roles. Nowadays, Mercer has his own roles to claim and I'm proud of that since I love his Jotaro, Levi, Yusuke, etc..
I'm glad Sega didn't have Mike Pollock redo Eggman's iconic laugh in Sonic X Shadow Generations. It just wouldn't have the same impact as it did in Sonic Generations back in 2011.
In the original game's Japanese voice over, Dr. Eggman's voice lines were recorded by the late Chikao Ōtsuka. By _Sonic X Shadow Generations,_ Dr. Eggman's voice lines were re-recorded by his current voice actor, Kotaro Nakamura. I thought I'd share this piece of trivia, given that the Japanese voice cast for this franchise usually remains perfectly consistent across the years, like Jun'ichi Kanemaru recording new lines for both Sonic and Metal Sonic in this game.

His final voice recording lines were in Sonic Forces but sadly he passed away in 2017 due to cancer before the release of the game. Since Team Sonic Racing, he’s now voiced by Johannes Oliver Hamm and he’ll be recording voice lines from Sonic X Shadow Generations now that he’s the new successor. 🇩🇪

It's a crime to replace Troy Baker, but tbh Matthew Mercer voice fits more on Espio than Baker's did (and now I can recognize his voice after playing so much TLOU)
Yeah I know we didn’t get to hear his espio voice they shouldn’t have replaced him it sounded so deep mysterious wise but Matthew does an ok job but Troy does it better
Sega basically forced Ian Flynn to write new dialogue while reusing the old cutscenes that didn't match. Most dialogue in the Sonic portion of the game sound bad as a result due to pacing problems. This obviously wasn't a problem in Shadows half since they had animations that were Taylor made for the dialogue.
This was a missed opportunity to get new actors for the other characters, like getting Charmy a new VA since Colleen’s done much better with Tails now. He sounds so weird in the remaster. Some of the other actors in the remaster still sound good, like Matthew Mercer as Espio and Erica Lindbeck as Blaze.
I think I can get used to Charmy’s new voice, of course I think Colleen can improve it if he’s in more games. Doing this also saves money for Sega, instead of having someone take up that role for a character that’s not gonna be in every game like Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Amy, Knuckles and Shadow.

Matt has come a long way from being the Troy Baker replacement to landing big roles that he's proud of. The Ganon role especially was surprising, of all the actors they could have gotten, they got a voice actor who parodied Ganon in a Smash Bros youtube video.
In the Castilian Spanish dub, Alfonso Vallés voices Vector and Ganondorf. He also voiced Solid Snake and Wolf but not in Super Smash Bros just only the main games. 🇪🇸
I'm gonna be completely honest. I was expecting the original VA's from the original Sonic Generations to reprise their roles like how Kate Higgins voiced Tails again in Sonic Colors: Ultimate. I wasn't expecting the changes in the lines. I don't have a problem with the current voices of Knuckles, Silver, Blaze, & Espio.
Dave honestly sounds like the middle point between the transition from Scott Dreier to Dan Green and Travis Willingham. Of the retained voice actors, Keith’s Vector sounds the least different between takes. And we all knew they weren’t gonna have Mike try to recreate that laugh, especially with how long it’s been. So wise move on just reusing it.

Had absolutely no memory that Laura Bailey used to voice Blaze, i love her voice so much ever since Lucina in Fire Emblem Awakening, I'm kinda sad that she doesnt seem to do as many roles anymore. Erica Lindbeck is also great as always, tho.

Since this is brought up again, Travis and Laura didn't part ways from SEGA because of Ronin, it's more in line with being invested with Critical Role along with other high budget productions. Troy Baker did the same move too without CR of course. Also all 3 of them don't do much anime dubs either, even the union ones they were invested in like the Naruto series being the biggest union dub for anime still.

In the French dub, Marie Millet voices both Cream & Charmy since Sonic X based on the Japanese version and thank goodness she still remembers it even in the games dubbed in French since the original Sonic Generations. 🇫🇷
(Outdated comment) Seriously? Even after Sonic Frontiers you still dislike Dave B. Mitchell as Knuckles? Get over it! It’s not his fault that he sounded bad in TSR, but he was given terrible direction! He proved in Sonic Frontiers that he could voice the serious version of Knuckles too! Sure Travis can do it as we heard him with the right direction in Forces, but before that, his voice was too high-pitched. Knuckles is not supposed to sound that high, which is why I consider Forces to be Travis’s only good performance as Knuckles (he still beats Dan Green by a long shot.) Dave has a deep voice that fits his characterization as a guardian, and I can actually take him seriously, and those same reasons are why Scott Dreier (Knuckles’s SA2 VA) is the best one imo, but I know he won’t return, but nor will Travis! So just let Dave prove his potential like he did in Frontiers! God why do you people complain about the most pointless things? Though I agree that Silver’s current VA, Bryce Papenbrook, sucks.

I appreciate that Colleen O’Shaugnessey did Charmy before she became the actual English voice of Tails since Sonic Boom video game and cartoon but she sounded better in the original Sonic Generations than in Sonic X Shadow Generations.
I feel as though she changed it because she wanted to differentiate it form Classic Tail's voice. I personally like the direction Charmy's voice went, but I feel as though Colleen's voice isn't naturally suited for that high of a pitch voice. Comes off as straining 😅

Yeah, they probably should have re-casted Charmy. Since Colleen has to make it different from both versions of Tails now it's really strained a bit too cutesy. My guess is they didn't bother since Charmy never appears in newer games anymore and Colleen was already on hand, but if the Chaotix ever have a large enough role again they should really get someone new.
@@HuladeHooplaokay, but him having terrible lines wasn’t the only problem. The other problem I had with him that Dan Green had as well is that until Forces, his voice was too high. I expect Knuckles to sound deep since he’s a guardian and has way more depth than meets the eye, and thankfully Travis was able to deliver that in Forces, so he did get good by the end of his run. I still prefer Scott and Dave has topped him since Frontiers.

My opinions on the redubbing for each character: Sonic - I still like it. Tails - he fine Amy - BETTER.. screw yall- Knuckles - between just alright and pretty good Cream - STILL BABY GIRL! But seems more squeaky. Rouge - she’s alright. Espio - … he sounds hot- Shadow - OH MY BOY ❤ Blaze - beautiful I love her omg Vector - I like. Charmy - oh my god poor Colleen- Silver - he’s eh. Eggman - older sounding but fine to me. Overall, I don’t hate the redubbing, or really see why all of a sudden people who called the voice actors back then horrible and cringe are now suddenly the best.. fandom I feel don’t know what the want. The old voice lines are alright to me, pretty good even. But the new lines (except the Knuckles “where is my island” to classic Sonic part) are all good to me. Like an 8/10.
I agree on all points. Except Silver, he’s good. He sounds a bit older compared to Silver from 06. And you’re goddamn right Amy sounds better in this remaster. I do hope they continue making her sound as she does in Frontiers tho.
i'd say the only voice that's worse is Charmy and possibly Knuckles plus they should have kept Eggman's "i'm going to own the world when I'm finished with Sonic" it made the scene feel like Eggman's last stand like he really thought he'd win, the "i'm going to erase that line and reshape it as I see fit" feels a lot less climatic.

Because Colleen's old Charmy voice is basically how she plays Tails now, just with more energy, so they needed her to differentiate him more since she'd be also playing both Modern and Classic Tails in this game.

Idk if it’s age or not playing the character in a while but the fact they Coleen villard’s charmy voice isn’t as good now as it was 13 years ago is just more proof that sega needs to bring back team chaotix! I’m still extremely peeved that my wish of team chaotix being characters in the knuckles series for paramount didn’t come true, I wanted vector the crocodile instead they gave me Wanda wipple!

I know people are probably having mixed reactions towards this as on one hand it’s neat they redid all the lines to accommodate the script changes so replaying gens actually has some more value to it but on the other hand some of the new lines or voices sound a bit weird-I don’t agree with the pin comment all of them are worst though, in terms of returning voices Kirk has 100% improved as shadow and I’m glad cause I’ve genuinely come to appreciate him as a va thanks to his other work, but also he did get his own entire section of the game-BUT as much as I’d breakdown every individual voice: can I just say I find it really fucking funny how when that one Apple arcade sonic game that had cream and rouge come back had people complaining their vas suck but then seeing this comparison we got full confirmation ITS THE SAME PEOPLE? People really were thinking “oh they casted someone else and they suck now” but no it’s literally JUST THEIR DIRECTION because these are the same vas. Not to mention these two are well known in the industry and I find it funnier how on how a different fandom people are clamoring for these two to come back. (Context: creams va is the original actor for Yukari and rouges va is the original actor for Aigis, both from Persona 3. People hate the dub for reload for recasting them even though some actors were gonna be replaced either way, but really fucking funny how Sonic fans think their terrible actors but no they just don’t know shit about how directing works!)
Fun fact, America's favorite dungeon master and current Ganondorf, Matt Mercer, replaced Troy Baker as the voice of Espio and the voice of Kanji in the Persona 4 anime and the post 2009 P4 games back in 2016 (starting with Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games). That being said, I prefer Troy Baker's Espio over Matt's. All I hear is Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening, and I can't unhear it. I gotta say, I like the voice direction that was taken with Charmy this time compared to 2011 to have Colleen differentiate Charmy from Tails. Lastly, as a Blaze the Cat fan, I prefer Erica Lindbeck's Blaze, though Laura Bailey did do a good job. It reminds me of when Blaze was voiced by Bella Hudson (Sonic Rush - Sonic and the Black Knight) all those years ago.
The Voice Acting in the rewrites is quite frankly hit or miss. My Thoughts: Roger's performance as Sonic is either pretty good or could be better directed in a few scenes here and there. But pretty good! Colleen does a fantastic job as Tails, really good stuff! Charmy on the other hand sounds way too calm. I'm wondering why they directed Dave to sound like he did as Knuckles in TSR, but it honestly not that good. Really wished they directed him to sound like he did in Tailstube. Cindy sounds really good as Amy! She's improved so much since then! Mike is Mike, he's going to sound fantastic as Eggman, no matter what direction they give him. While you can hear a few cracks in Michelle's voice as Cream, it's still an improvement over her performance in Dream Team. Karen sucks as Rouge. Don't know how they are directing her, but it ain't good, chief. Erica as Blaze is peak! So i knew she was gonna nail it from the get-go. Same thing with Omochao. Bryce as Silver is my favorite voice for him, but i really wished they directed him to sound a little deeper. But his screams and yells are really good! Matt as Espio is just perfect casting, and he certainly nails it! No complaints from me! Same with Keith as Vector. He sounds a little raspier now, but still pretty dang good! I'm not putting Kirk as Shadow here because that's a whole thing on it's on due to Shadow Generations, but i think he did well with that rewritten line.
Karen does not suck as Rouge, take that back right now! The direction she’s given here is actually miles better than what we got in TSR and Dream Team, she actually sounds capable and she’s proving her potential. She has the most natural voice of Rouge, and she proved to be a worthy successor to Lani Minella and Rouge’s Japanese VA, Rumi Ochiai. And also, her political views do not tie into her acting skills! Besides, whether you like or dislike her performance, at least she’s still better than Rouge’s horrendous 4Kids VA, Kathleen Delaney. Tbh anyone is better than Kathleen. SHE is the one who sucked as Rouge, not Karen.
The more laid back, mellow vocal performances just don’t match the animations at all. Especially the new dialogue in some areas Honestly just keeping the voices as-is would have been better
My take, I don't think the redubbed lines are bad by any means, I think we're just used to hearing the old lines. We all have our preferences tho, so I understand those who don't like the new voices or line changes. Personally, I don't like Silver's new voice, and the fact that they changed Knuckles' "did you gain weight?" Line is an absolute crime, but overall it's a pretty good redub.
It’s both a downgrade in most areas and an upgrade in some. Charmy is the prime example of the downgrade here, why did they direct Colleen to sound like that? Some voices do sound better though, like Matthew Mercer for Espio, and some that manage to sound completely consistent, like Keith Silverstein as Vector. There are also some other voice actors in the remaster that I prefer over the originals, like Dave B. Mitchell as Knuckles (people still hate on him even after he improved a lot in Frontiers,) but even I have to admit that the direction that he was given here wasn’t great. So it’s mostly a downgrade, I guess.

Jonatan Lopez the previous Spanish voice of Sonic since the cartoons and the original Sonic Generations took his retirement in 2016 but unfortunately he passed away in 2020 due to a cardiac arrest. ❤️🩹 I’m still shocked of the tragic news as he was my favorite but I’m happy that Silver’s Spanish voice actor took over the role as Sonic. 💙

I think the only one I really felt a big difference, both in tone and style, was Knuckles. I prefer the old one, not that the new one is bad, but the original make Knuckles sound like what he used to in the games, while the new makes he sound like what he sounds in the shows.
Why isn't Mathew Mercer voicing shadow the hedgehog. His voice is perfect for it...hoping they recast the voices going forward... starting with mercer as shadow

Sega basically forced Ian Flynn to write new dialogue while reusing the old cutscenes that didn't match. Most dialogue in the Sonic portion of the game sound bad as a result due to pacing problems. This obviously wasn't a problem in Shadows half since they had animations that were Taylor made for the dialogue.
To be fair Shadow gens dialogue also feels rushed a lot

This was a missed opportunity to get new actors for the other characters, like getting Charmy a new VA since Colleen’s done much better with Tails now. He sounds so weird in the remaster. Some of the other actors in the remaster still sound good, like Matthew Mercer as Espio and Erica Lindbeck as Blaze.
I think I can get used to Charmy’s new voice, of course I think Colleen can improve it if he’s in more games. Doing this also saves money for Sega, instead of having someone take up that role for a character that’s not gonna be in every game like Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Amy, Knuckles and Shadow.

Matt has come a long way from being the Troy Baker replacement to landing big roles that he's proud of. The Ganon role especially was surprising, of all the actors they could have gotten, they got a voice actor who parodied Ganon in a Smash Bros youtube video.
In the Castilian Spanish dub, Alfonso Vallés voices Vector and Ganondorf. He also voiced Solid Snake and Wolf but not in Super Smash Bros just only the main games. 🇪🇸

I'm gonna be completely honest. I was expecting the original VA's from the original Sonic Generations to reprise their roles like how Kate Higgins voiced Tails again in Sonic Colors: Ultimate. I wasn't expecting the changes in the lines. I don't have a problem with the current voices of Knuckles, Silver, Blaze, & Espio.
Dave honestly sounds like the middle point between the transition from Scott Dreier to Dan Green and Travis Willingham.
Of the retained voice actors, Keith’s Vector sounds the least different between takes.
And we all knew they weren’t gonna have Mike try to recreate that laugh, especially with how long it’s been. So wise move on just reusing it.

Since this is brought up again, Travis and Laura didn't part ways from SEGA because of Ronin, it's more in line with being invested with Critical Role along with other high budget productions. Troy Baker did the same move too without CR of course. Also all 3 of them don't do much anime dubs either, even the union ones they were invested in like the Naruto series being the biggest union dub for anime still.

Seriously? Even after Sonic Frontiers you still dislike Dave B. Mitchell as Knuckles? Get over it! It’s not his fault that he sounded bad in TSR, but he was given terrible direction! He proved in Sonic Frontiers that he could voice the serious version of Knuckles too! Sure Travis can do it as we heard him with the right direction in Forces, but before that, his voice was too high-pitched. Knuckles is not supposed to sound that high, which is why I consider Forces to be Travis’s only good performance as Knuckles (he still beats Dan Green by a long shot.) Dave has a deep voice that fits his characterization as a guardian, and I can actually take him seriously, and those same reasons are why Scott Dreier (Knuckles’s SA2 VA) is the best one imo, but I know he won’t return, but nor will Travis! So just let Dave prove his potential like he did in Frontiers! God why do you people complain about the most pointless things?

I appreciate that Colleen O’Shaugnessey did Charmy before she became the actual English voice of Tails since Sonic Boom video game and cartoon but she sounded better in the original Sonic Generations than in Sonic X Shadow Generations.
I feel as though she changed it because she wanted to differentiate it form Classic Tail's voice. I personally like the direction Charmy's voice went, but I feel as though Colleen's voice isn't naturally suited for that high of a pitch voice. Comes off as straining 😅

Yeah, they probably should have re-casted Charmy. Since Colleen has to make it different from both versions of Tails now it's really strained a bit too cutesy. My guess is they didn't bother since Charmy never appears in newer games anymore and Colleen was already on hand, but if the Chaotix ever have a large enough role again they should really get someone new.

@@HuladeHooplaokay, but him having terrible lines wasn’t the only problem. The other problem I had with him that Dan Green had as well is that until Forces, his voice was too high. I expect Knuckles to sound deep since he’s a guardian and has way more depth than meets the eye, and thankfully Travis was able to deliver that in Forces, so he did get good by the end of his run. I still prefer Scott and Dave has topped him since Frontiers.

i'd say the only voice that's worse is Charmy and possibly Knuckles plus they should have kept Eggman's "i'm going to own the world when I'm finished with Sonic" it made the scene feel like Eggman's last stand like he really thought he'd win, the "i'm going to erase that line and reshape it as I see fit" feels a lot less climatic.

I know people are probably having mixed reactions towards this as on one hand it’s neat they redid all the lines to accommodate the script changes so replaying gens actually has some more value to it but on the other hand some of the new lines or voices sound a bit weird-I don’t agree with the pin comment all of them are worst though, in terms of returning voices Kirk has 100% improved as shadow and I’m glad cause I’ve genuinely come to appreciate him as a va thanks to his other work, but also he did get his own entire section of the game-BUT as much as I’d breakdown every individual voice: can I just say I find it really fucking funny how when that one Apple arcade sonic game that had cream and rouge come back had people complaining their vas suck but then seeing this comparison we got full confirmation ITS THE SAME PEOPLE? People really were thinking “oh they casted someone else and they suck now” but no it’s literally JUST THEIR DIRECTION because these are the same vas. Not to mention these two are well known in the industry and I find it funnier how on how a different fandom people are clamoring for these two to come back. (Context: creams va is the original actor for Yukari and rouges va is the original actor for Aigis, both from Persona 3. People hate the dub for reload for recasting them even though some actors were gonna be replaced either way, but really fucking funny how Sonic fans think their terrible actors but no they just don’t know shit about how directing works!)

Fun fact, America's favorite dungeon master and current Ganondorf, Matt Mercer, replaced Troy Baker as the voice of Espio and the voice of Kanji in the Persona 4 anime and the post 2009 P4 games back in 2016 (starting with Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games). That being said, I prefer Troy Baker's Espio over Matt's. All I hear is Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening, and I can't unhear it.
I gotta say, I like the voice direction that was taken with Charmy this time compared to 2011 to have Colleen differentiate Charmy from Tails.
Lastly, as a Blaze the Cat fan, I prefer Erica Lindbeck's Blaze, though Laura Bailey did do a good job. It reminds me of when Blaze was voiced by Bella Hudson (Sonic Rush - Sonic and the Black Knight) all those years ago.
The Voice Acting in the rewrites is quite frankly hit or miss.
My Thoughts:
Roger's performance as Sonic is either pretty good or could be better directed in a few scenes here and there. But pretty good!
Colleen does a fantastic job as Tails, really good stuff! Charmy on the other hand sounds way too calm.
I'm wondering why they directed Dave to sound like he did as Knuckles in TSR, but it honestly not that good. Really wished they directed him to sound like he did in Tailstube.
Cindy sounds really good as Amy! She's improved so much since then!
Mike is Mike, he's going to sound fantastic as Eggman, no matter what direction they give him.
While you can hear a few cracks in Michelle's voice as Cream, it's still an improvement over her performance in Dream Team.
Karen sucks as Rouge. Don't know how they are directing her, but it ain't good, chief.
Erica as Blaze is peak! So i knew she was gonna nail it from the get-go. Same thing with Omochao.
Bryce as Silver is my favorite voice for him, but i really wished they directed him to sound a little deeper. But his screams and yells are really good!
Matt as Espio is just perfect casting, and he certainly nails it! No complaints from me!
Same with Keith as Vector. He sounds a little raspier now, but still pretty dang good!
I'm not putting Kirk as Shadow here because that's a whole thing on it's on due to Shadow Generations, but i think he did well with that rewritten line.
Karen does not suck as Rouge, take that back right now! The direction she’s given here is actually miles better than what we got in TSR and Dream Team, she actually sounds capable and she’s proving her potential. She has the most natural voice of Rouge, and she proved to be a worthy successor to Lani Minella and Rouge’s Japanese VA, Rumi Ochiai. And also, her political views do not tie into her acting skills!
Besides, whether you like or dislike her performance, at least she’s still better than Rouge’s horrendous 4Kids VA, Kathleen Delaney. Tbh anyone is better than Kathleen. SHE is the one who sucked as Rouge, not Karen.

My take, I don't think the redubbed lines are bad by any means, I think we're just used to hearing the old lines. We all have our preferences tho, so I understand those who don't like the new voices or line changes. Personally, I don't like Silver's new voice, and the fact that they changed Knuckles' "did you gain weight?" Line is an absolute crime, but overall it's a pretty good redub.

Some voices do sound better though, like Matthew Mercer for Espio, and some that manage to sound completely consistent, like Keith Silverstein as Vector.
There are also some other voice actors in the remaster that I prefer over the originals, like Dave B. Mitchell as Knuckles (people still hate on him even after he improved a lot in Frontiers,) but even I have to admit that the direction that he was given here wasn’t great.
So it’s mostly a downgrade, I guess.
Think they wanted Charmy to sound different than Tails? Not sure but in the previous like clip of charmy imo it sounded a lil too much like tails. I’m not against the new voice direction but I get it’s not for everyone so I understand your opinion/gen
I swear I always confuse Troy Baker with Matt Mercer when it comes to them stealing edgy roles. Funny to see that both of them voiced Espio.

Bryce Papenbrook is a really good voice actor but I don’t like his take on Silver which I prefer the previous English voices with Pete Capella and Quinton Flynn a lot better.

@@ImSakataGintokiComeAtMe Same to me! In Spain 🇪🇸 Angel De Gracia only voiced Silver in the original Sonic Generations but since 2016, he’s now voicing Sonic while he’s still voicing Silver.
Jonatan Lopez the previous Spanish voice of Sonic since the cartoons and the original Sonic Generations took his retirement in 2016 but unfortunately he passed away in 2020 due to a cardiac arrest. ❤️🩹 I’m still shocked of the tragic news as he was my favorite but I’m happy that Silver’s Spanish voice actor took over the role as Sonic. 💙

I think the only one I really felt a big difference, both in tone and style, was Knuckles. I prefer the old one, not that the new one is bad, but the original make Knuckles sound like what he used to in the games, while the new makes he sound like what he sounds in the shows.
I prefer Silver’s previous voice actor.
