So, every few years, around late August to early September, I get this irresistible urge to play Half-Life or Counter-Strike. I've often wondered why this happens and never really saw it as a normal pattern. The truth is, about 25 years ago, in 1999, I installed Half-Life on my "uber" Pentium 2 machine and never looked back. I’ve never regretted the countless hours I spent immersed in that incredible game. Now, 25 years later, I still find myself enjoying mod recordings, documentaries, and pretty much everything that’s been released since Half-Life's inception while working on my digital businesses. My business partner can't understand how I can find such deep focus while doing so, but I guess he’ll never get it. If you've never found true silence and solitude in gaming, you'll never understand how impactful just a video or a game’s soundtrack can be. As a psychologist, I find this pattern particularly fascinating, and I think it has a lot to do with what’s known as the anniversary effect and long-term memory cues. The anniversary effect refers to the subconscious tendency to recall and re-experience emotions or urges associated with a significant event around the same time of its original occurrence. For me, September is when I first installed Half-Life on that Pentium 2 back in 1999. The brain, especially the hippocampus and amygdala, is great at storing these time-based associations, especially when they’re linked to strong emotions like excitement or nostalgia. So, every September, my brain may be nudging me to revisit those initial feelings of discovery and pleasure, prompting me to dive back into the game. Long-term memory cues could also play a role. Our brains naturally link memories with specific contexts like time, season, or even sensory details. Since I first played Half-Life in September, this time of year might act as a trigger, bringing these memories to the surface even if they’re not consciously present. When the environment or conditions mirror the original experience, it can spark that familiar urge to relive those moments. Anyway, this channel is underrated. Everyone should subscribe and help it grow.
This has been such a thrill to play along with, the team behind this mod has provided outstanding work in not only updating the locations seen in Blue Shift to the Black Mesa aesthetics, but also expanding some of the shorter sections in each chapter to make it feel more like a fuller gameplay experience. The biggest praise I can offer is this moment in Chapter 4 where you meet back up with Officers Rudy Murdoch and Otis Langly and they accompany you as additional fire support against bigger HECU ambushes, even trading some rather hilarious banter with eachother both in and out of combat. Even still, pulling in the two personnel found in the search for Dr. Rosenburg: Freight technician Ronny and scientist Dr. Henderson to add to your own personal entourage of survivors pulled in with the search for Rosenburg. It makes it heartbreaking to think what the fate of these four may be at the conclusion of this story would be, seeing as how they may be sent to fetch another power cell for the prototype Xen teleporter while Barney is there calibrating the focal emitter for their escape plan.
I like how it switches up the style from basic Black Mesa (and Half-Life in general). Gordon is a one man army, going from place to place, trying to set things right and becomes (in)famous amongst both friends and enemies for his actions. Barney on the other hand just wants to get out and help other people do the same, so he finds a posse and makes a mad escape attempt.
@@srottfaen for sure, ive seen trailers of a blue shift remake, Guard Duty take a few interesting steps. Barney's crowbar being replaced by his heavy seclight, bashing the butt of it into barriers and foes alike, and the tone of the story taking more survival horror notes for most of the underground segments
Does this complete the trilogy? I can play Back mesa, opposing forces and blue shift? Doe they all have perfect controller support with no keyboard needed at any point?
let's hope it will be better than the original BS. it was a terrible game with few guns and enemies , too short, too dark environments and an unsatisfying conclusion. the BS fanboys , go see elsewhere instead of imposing your stupid tastes.
Lmao tf you so mad? Salty opposing force fanboy, amd unsatisfying conclusion? It's the best ending in any half-life game. You're still mad Shepherd is in stasis?
It just pains me to look at possibly someone playing this game for the first time, And may have never played the game in the past. I'm like what the hell an I looking at. This person has no ideal what's even going on in the game. I should be the game tester and you tape me playing and making this game a Killing Floor. It is now 38:30 and I'll give you till 50:00 before I call it in on watching any more of your game play and find another game master who has this same video.
