"For a young kid in junior high/high school, Signals was a great entry point into the world of Rush." No less does that introductory statement ring true even 40 years later. I graduated from high school two years ago, currently in my second year of college. I was introduced by my father to Rush at a very young age, and I was fortunate to experience the R40 tour with him, I remember little specifically from the night, but I remember the feeling I was experiencing when there, though at the time I couldn't articulate it. I was drawn to Lifeson's solos and riffs and the exhilarating "Rock'n'roll" sound of their earlier works, but In my senior year, I pulled out the Signals CD my dad gifted me for Christmas years prior and put it in the CD player of my car. Every moment that car was running my Senior year, Signals was running along with it. I began to observe Rush from the perspective of not just sound but feeling and meaning. I had re-ignited the feeling of freedom and joy that I couldn't understand as a young kid. Signals is, in my opinion, a perfect album. From start to finish, there isn't a single song that doesn't play the whole way through. When I listen to one, I have to listen to the other seven along with it. Signals is a very conceptual album that leans heavily on Peart's writing, of which I believe Signals is him at his best and most consistent. Signals is the perfect starting point for Rush listeners new and old entering the preliminary stages of adulthood to discover both their independence and their place in a beautiful but troubled world.

Wow!! thank you for your wonderful comment, validating the impact Signals had on people not ready for hard core Rush. Today Signals is one of my favorite albums to listen to.

Joe Flaherty... such a great talent. RIP. I saw the tour with this clip, and the audience loved it.

Really loving the channel, thank you. This era was also my introduction to what would become the principle obsession of my life, and certainly one of biggest factors of who I was to become. Now, 56, badly disabled/paralyzed, I can safely and honestly say this band, the ability to still take them in, be inspired by them, to feel that feeling, is the reason I'm still here.
So, thanks again for the channel and the homeroom of kindred spirits; may it blossom. ❤ ❤️ 💔 🐇

Something I have never heard asked was if Neil had left any lyrics behind for the guys to follow up on?

Being a Brother in Arms I felt obligated to respond and acknowledge your plight. I thought for several days on what to say, and all I could really think is I'm sorry u have had to go thru this. It's cold comfort knowing u found something to help u thru. I don't think I'd have been so strong. I wish there was something better I could say. Thirty years ago, I'm sorry again!

Thank you again, you are the reason I am doing this video series . I wanted to give the 100 percenters a voice, and to let the people know what it was like being a fan of the greatest, most legendary band in the history of the world, from beginning to end.
I appreciate all the kind words, keep em coming.

Personally I always loved the synth type noises in their music and was disappointed when that got away from that.

One of my favorite clips of Alex, sweat dripping off his brow as he orgasms all over his guitar, using pinch harmonics to make sounds. I’ve almost never heard before and then all of a sudden locks into step with Neil! Sublime.

A song that sounds good but lacks meaningful or interesting lyrics gets boring pretty quickly. Neil was really hitting his stride on this album and it only got better. Powerful music, accompanied by powerful lyrics! We were so lucky to have lived thru this. The real heaven is right in front of our noses!!

Completely agree. Great intro and groove, but the lyrics are just meandering.

I argue that The Weapon is the weakest tune on Signals due to its 4/4 bass drum beat throughout most of it. That style of bass drumming was non-existant prior to Signals and regrettably became a too common approach for Neil. Still a great album despite.

Yeah, but the high hat work he is pouring out over the top of it is next level shit! I’m sorry, but I have to differ in opinion here I am always captivated by the drums on this track. Respect your take though.

When playing complex drumming it’s good to have something to pull it together
