One unique plate is "Chili con Carne". It is said that cattle drive cooks used this dish based on a recipe from San Antonio. To this day, as anglicized as it is, Texas style chili is still the one and only, best. NO FREAKIN' BEANS! I have even heard foreigners from other states brag about their "3 bean white vegitarian chili". I did try it once, to be respectful. Call it, white beany stew, but don't call it chili. Another dish is, "Migas". Traditional poor folks breakfast. Blanquillos estrellados, ripped up pieces of day-old corn tortillas, Chile Serrano picado, cebollita, y tomatito picado. Frijoles refritos on the side. They ain't chilaquiles. Note: Aint no G/D melted cheese on 'em! That's you California m/f's hatin'. I have been to East LA in '83. Had a blast. Great comidas. Not a damn thing wrong with LA Mexicano food. But don't go saying its more "authentic" than Tejano/Mexicano comida. Dallas has some of the best authentic tacos from all over Mexico, Tejano tacos and barbacoa varieties of tacos in the state. The same as other cities. Or Mexican period. Plus the Tejano Tex Mex that anyone will love if they take their little small minded self out there and try it.
Not gonna lie the food in Mexico has been droppin in quality and taste. My family goes to Mexico a month at a time at least once a year since I was 7. We’ve been all over Mexico and even in some of our favorite places to visit the sazón has been lacking.

ive been to Mexico a lot and let me tell u that a lot of the food you would find in the US like tacos Al pastor are actually kinda rare because they don’t make it their, only places u might find it is in the biggest cities where theirs the more traditional food

So you don’t have to travel all across Mexico to get the best of Mexican food it’s all mainly in Southern California. I also just moved to Austin TX from California and there’s really no comparison. There’s no real Mexican food here and if it is it’s usually way overpriced. I found a taco spot that charges $5 a taco because they make LA style tacos lmao. Tex Mex isn’t Mexican food. It’s entirely it’s own thing. Just like California burritos aren’t Mexican food, it’s Californian food which is also it’s own thing
