Yes. It was this FIRST generation - CARL REINER who had the TRUE genius melded with poverty, struggle and humility. Rob Reiner, Meathead, on the other hand, just turned into a rich corporate Democrat, although SPINAL TAP was kind of his saving grace. Night and Day! that generation!
These guys were dynamite together !!! Reiner had the knack to ask Brooks about the most outrageous thing he could imagine and then there goes Mel, not only inventing an answer but backing it elaborating some crazy story that only he could ever come up with. Witness the way Carl laughs hearing an answer to whatever he initialy asked, being entertained himself by that 1-derful master of funny improvisation. Brilliant artists !!!
Laughter is the real secret to longevity. These guys were improvising faster than the crowd could keep up with and were probably twice their average age.
The way they could effortlessly go into a routine and just ad lib, truly remarkable and talented. These two shaped my sense of humor thanks to reruns of Get Smart, Dick Van Dyke Show and of course Mel's movies.
Wonderful Gentlemen…So FUNNY!! Comical Geniuses!! Comedy GOLD FOLKS!! Comedy GOLD!! ;] GOD BLESS Carl Reiner& Mel Brooks!! COMICS are So important…Helping to Keeps us all Sane in Trouble Times…Helping us all to Lighten the Load of LIFE ;] FUNNY FOREVER!!
Reading the Mel Brooks autobiography. These two guys had quite a career both together and separate. The story of how the 2000 Year Old Man came to be is a great one and it's crazy to hear that we the public almost never got to hear it if it wasn't for Steve Allen begging them to record it in his studio and if they didn't like how it went they could just toss out the recording. What's crazy is since this was for a show it was actually scripted. Normally they would just adlib trying to get the other to crack. Two of the best to have ever done it. We've already lost Carl Reiner. I dread the day we lose Mel.
Very naive comments about some of the greatest comics of all time (Mel Brooks, Jack Benny...). Ask the comedians of modern day i.e. JerrySeinfeld, and I'm sure that they will refer to the Mel Brooks's of yester-year as the primary inspirations for their comic genius.
Jordan Anderson: Forgive these people for they have no senses of humor. For some reason, they dont realize that they were improvising their routine ON THE SPOT. Sad, so sad.
I am laughing so hard I couldn't breathe! The first time I heard this Aideh joke I nearly killed myself laughing. In 6th grade I learned the tale of Radames & Aideh (however you spell it) Best version of Romeo & Juliette ever.
american comedy entered its adult age in the last 20 years. Before that, there was really very unfunny americans like bob hope, skelton or mel brooks who people idolized, but who were never remotely ingenious, not like the british were. Its only in the past 20 years with the emmergence of people like larry david, seinfeld, louis ck, chappelle, that the americans have surpassed the brits, but really before that there was only carlin, the marx brothers, hicks, and a whole lot of tumbleweed
This is one of the most ludicrous comments I have ever read. It's one thing to say that one doesn't care for a particular comedian, but to state that Bob Hope, Red Skelton and (for God's sake!) Mel Brooks aren't funny, well that's simply ridiculous.
What no Lenny Bruce? Andy Kaufman? (And I can't agree... Yes this bit for example is a bit silly, but stuff like Blazing saddles, Young Frankenstein are genius... And of course hundreds of other comedians you didn't name...)
We lost Carl today....6/29/20....a real gentleman and a wonderful comedian. RIP Carl....thank you for all the laughs over the years...we'll miss you.

A lot of people don’t know but gene wilder wrote young Frankenstein
@@DocLobster94 Gene and Mel co-wrote the script that Gene starred in and Mel directed

The best part is that they probably both went back to Carl's place after this and watched Jeopardy.

Legends of their century
LEGENDS!
2 comedy legions 2 comedy icons R I P Mr. Reiner
I love the Leno interviews when Leno says nothing ;-)
Haha. Completely agree.
Rest In Peace...now you are legend
Mel and Carl are still great they should make a 2000 year old man animated picture movie.
There was a 1975 animated special based on their act that they voiced respectively. I agree that there should be an animated feature film.
Anyone can make fun of something ....
Only a few ,can make fun out of anything and sometimes even from nothing at all.

This was completely improvised. Mel had no idea what questions Carl was going to ask.

Mel Brooks could pretend to be a pineapple and still be funny.
Seeing Mel Brooks impersonating a pineapple would be funny under any circumstances...
Shade and a little seltzer
...that's why he's been around so long because he was nice to JESUS and " the 12 guys " ....classic !
I can't stand Leno, but I adore these 2 men
RIP Carl Reiner.
Borscht Belt humor, Jewish alps...take my wife....please.
Richard Pryor has gone on record in saying it was he that put the fart scene in the movie. He never got credit for that.
Guests like Mel and Carl--you stayed up to watch.Rickles,Burt Reynolds,Hope,Burns,Rodney. Now at 1130pm--you turn off the set.
25 people are dead inside.

Just Think what it would Have Been Like If Mel Brooks had a Part On The DICK Van Dyke Show!!!!!
I think I have seen stuff like this in Abbott and Costello routines!!
Rip Carl eat more garlic Mel

Even Jerry who?

fuck i thought this was 2000.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 77yo Aussie fan.
Jordan--Jerry Seinfeld is so far away from the genius of Mel Brooks.
Half a Planet away... Pacific Northwest. These guys DO entertain themselves. Vaudeville of yesteryear. True genius.
Wish Carl has lived atleast till Nov when trump loses.
Not that phunny, with respect
not funny
👎Amico di Berlusconi🖓
It’s just not funny. Never was.
Seriously dude?
You're probably too young to appreciate it. On the other hand, I'm probably too old to appreciate what passes for "humor" these days.
321snoot 53 is not too young. It’s not funny. Mel Brooks fun. 2,000 year old man not funny. Jack Benny - Seinfeld - Norm McDonald = funny.
@@martinedwards7758 To each his own.
I have loved almost everything that Brooks has done on film, but this 2,000-yr-old man routine was never funny to me.
Aw. Some of it's funny. Just not this piece.
