I worked on The Jerk… One of the first movies I ever worked on in Los Angeles… It was a great experience.. Carl, Steve,Bernadette… and so many great people who did funny bits that ended up on the cutting room floor.. I was tasked with keeping tabs on Jackie Mason who would always disappear from his trailer… My biggest thrills we’re meeting and hanging out with Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee the great blues artists and Mabel King… I had seen Mabel in The Wiz on Broadway and I was in awe of her so I would pamper her and she was so sweet to me.. As I reminisce, It really was one of the best experiences I had on a movie.

Carl Reiner almost changed the course of television history if he had his way. He originally wanted Johnny Carson to star in what would become the Dick Van Dyke show. If Johnny had taken that gig, he probably would never have gotten the Tonight Show. And Van Sykes might have continued his Broadway career, with no stardom on television.

Sorry, sorry, sorry. I love these people, but when the Crucifixion bit started I had to shut this down. I cannot bear to hear the slaughter of our Dear Lord made the brunt of a joke by a bunch of brilliant artists. - Maybe this sacrilege ends up alright. Maybe they get humble and remorseful (in a funny way, of course) and - I dunno, I can't bear this. Maybe I'll wait 2000 years to hear the bloody punchline. - Maybe they make the bit about His being nailed to the cross a hoot. - Who can't make some fun out of hammers and nails as joke props, huh? - Classic stuff for a routine. - Gosh, maybe one of the Roman soldiers "boinks" his helmet with the hammer... God help me, this hurts. - I'm shutting it down.

Gail, Actually the man on the cross message was not to take his suffering too seriously, because life is more than the pain one can feel from it. His was a liberation through suffering so that others dont have too. So lighten up and enjoy Mel Brooks because thats what Jesus would do.
