I'm sure he was the getaway driver and they came running to him after they robbed the bank. But, because he believes he could outsmart the justice system by the exact wording of his charges. He never entered the bank, which is true. He never physically was in the bank robbing them with a gun, which is true. Since he didn't enter the bank he couldn't have had a gun, which is true. So because all these things are true and there's video evidence of all this, he believes he can twist the narrative to what really happened to minimize his actions and culpability. He doesn't understand that as a getaway driver, he can be charged with the exact same charge as his accomplices.
