If the air filter is really dirty you should lay the bike on the side and then take the air filter carefully out. The way he is doing it (especially turning the dirty filter around while holding it over the intake), dirt would fall on the backfire screen and maybe inside the intake.
You said to clean the air filter guide with "contact cleaner" but, many contact cleaners destroy plastic. What cleaner, specifically, are you using or recommending??

I use carb cleaner with anything plastic since carbs have plastic & rubber bits in them
