"End the fight as quick as possible WITHOUT the guy knowing"..., I like that point.
It's finished before it starts, the art of fighting without fighting.
"Distance is your friend"....,haha..., your best buddy.
Most professionals don't master distance control seriously because they are in a sport environment and application, so they have no worry of mortal maiming.
Which is why they're always tied up, clinching, grappling, hugging, crashing into each other.
Good point on stressing the uniqueness of real JKD.
Like Tommy says over & over, JKD is not for sport, not for play.
That's why there are realistic drills, no sparring..., sparring is playing...,unless you go all out to snap a knee in half or puncture an eye ball, or dislocate a jaw.

*Great video as always, Thomas! Just one correction. Master Wong who teaches Wing Chun and street self defense on RUclips shows a lot of these non telegraphic moves when someone moves in to attack but usually close range. Btw, please do a video to explain the details regarding using your hip when you use different kick types. I recall watching an old video on RUclips but I can't remember by who, who said you should use the hip in the last moment for more impact.*

Could you do a video on how to defend in an elevator, with no room and your opponent being taller, stronger and more massive? I mean of course 50/50 as you said in close combat. But there is still more to it. Bruce also taught how to free yourself from grapplers, generate extreme power over short distances and hook the opponent to a specific area like you show it wrong in my opinion, the better place to drop an opponent close combat is not the chin as most fighters have a very solid chin and they just eat that punch for breakfast, but not if you hit him between neck and under the chin (not frontal throat as it would kill him but to the side). Best explanation for what I mean would be Jet Li in Kiss of the Dragon when he is fighting a heavier afroamerican opponent in the restaurant. There you see a beautiful knockoutpunch. It stops the bloodflow to the brain and they sleep so spot on what you train is of course true and deadly. Precision and being fast with the weapons you need. Cudos (respect). Edit: of course also no room (no range of motion) for the exquisite kicks Sifu Carruthers shows to the throat at this range ;)

I still have so many questions sry for writing so much under video, which explains something else. For example Bruce also taught to defend against guns, where does JKD seperate itself from Krav Maga, when disarming an opponent with a handgun (of course from very short range)? Also what is important when fighting multiple opponents is to stay always in motion and have them lined up. In emergency cases you could even shield up with one of the weaker and damaged guys to help the other let‘s say nine attackers to stay in a line. This is all implememted from Wing Chun, there you learn to let multiple opponents never leave your sight and set them in front of you in a straight line. There are true masters of this art and I qould say in real street fight Jackie Chan for example would be one hell of an enemy, as he shows what I mean against multiple opponents the best and we all know he can do it in real :)
Thank you in advance for sharing all your wisdom you learnt from Sifu Carruthers!

This clip is a movie scene...This would never work with multiple opponents in reality.. Movie choreography..... In a close situation with JKD both Bruce and Tommy would teach the JKD in close strategy of 'STRIKE, PULL, PINCH, BITE'. (See Longstreet 1971) This is beyond the rules of 'ground game sports fighting' because the targets have no restrictions. Remember vital targets which can be attacked at range can also be attacked in close quarters. This would be very necessary in self defense for Women. (Paul)

Come al solito il miglior JKD il tuo Sifu . Una domanda : esiste nella tua versione molto pratica di JKD anche una sezione di tecniche di grappling ? Nel caso di combattimento a terra .
