right after purchasing this home i noticed that the hvac ducts were in very rough shape. with many air leaks in the crawl space i was loosing alot of air. i made it a priority to install new ducts for better air flow and lower power bill. heres a quick video showing how i replaced my air ducts.

the sheet metal worker in me wants to replace everything with metal and take-offs, the sheet metal worker in me does not wanna insulate it though hahah
Good work. I have a similar fate, but I got ass bestos to deal with. Have to do it on my own because no HVAC joints will touch it. I don't have much. Just 5 runs off of a plenum, but I have to make a new plenum. Previous owner went crazy cutting 5 huge holes and running the ducts as if nobody was every going to use a basement. Yep, there is a dent from years of people bumping their heads. Going to make my own plenum then tee it off into some flexy duct to get me home. Just have to get a respirator and a few poopy suits to not die.

Hi Rafael, thank you for your video, it looks amazing. I have a question. I just purchased an old house with crawl space that is very wet and low, but the duct work is in bad shape also, I'm wondering if I should incapsulated it and if I do, do yo think that is a good idea to put AC vent there since will be incapsulate? I don't like the idea to have a dehumidifier in the crawl space, but I might be wrong. Thank you

I think its a great idea to seal the crawl space . I hear it helps the energy bill also. And yea its a requirement to add a supply run to the crawl. I say a 4in to 6in supply depending on the crawl size

I've watched a lot of Crawl Space Ninja's videos about encapsulation. We have a lot of mildew in the crawl space and I live in a humid environment. My wife and kids are susceptible to migraines so I'm in the process of encapsulating it myself because their allergies stimulate their migraines. I'm very busy at my job so this has been a long process but I see a lot of benefits to it already. First, I found white mold on the joists before I started this process because the humid air would come in through the vents. I closed the vents off and I added an aprille aire humidifier and it's done a great job of keeping the humidity down to 45%.
Then I added an exhaust vent to remove some of the mildew since I don't have it fully encapsulated yet. It works but it obviously removes heat from the upper floor of the house so I run it on a timer. I have finally finished putting foam in the rim joists which has helped our heat immensely this winter. I hated doing it but it's done and I can tell a difference as our furnace has not been running as much this season. Next I'm going to put 2" foam on the concrete walls down there, fog the joists to kill the mold, vacuum/sand the mold off, install the plastic. Ugh, it's a lot of work and I'm doing 1,800 sqft by myself.
I’m a novice and no budget to pay for this renovation so I am learning my renter failed to mention a rat infest😊so mine must go from system To register they were living in the duct work it was approximately 6-8 months to totally destroy my system. Someone said get it gleaned but lol must have been 30 foot old hollowed out duct gross to removed mask up and go if wish me luck it’s October we he made it through fall but he has to have heat 😂
I have high static pressure on a new 3.5 ton heat pump. I know for sure the flex duct is the issue. I have two 12" coming out of the supply in opposite directions. I know I need an 18" for a 3.5 ton heat pump. I did a diagram layout of the duct in the attic. What would happen if I just replace the two 12" to 18"?
Ignoring the downstairs, because everything is between the walls. The problem was even worse with an undersized return. The original and only return was a 24x18. The total static pressure on the unit was .9 W.C. I was able to drop the TESP to .66 by making the return 30x24. Since there is so much static pressure and the unit TESP is a .2 and I need an 18" for a 3.5 ton for 1400 CFM. How big does the supply plenum should be and what shape? Should the supply plenum split to 3 18" going out to each of the 3 distribution boxes? Do the other three distribution boxes also need to be larger?
Looking at the triangle shaped supply plenum I have very little room up for a rectangle plenum. I think a 3 feet ductboard supply plenum should work. There is a foot from the Air handler to the ceiling and I think 2 feet from the attic floor to the roof. Now I am looking at two types of designs. Design #1 keeps the 18" ducts straight by having a single 18" coming out of the supply and then a distribution box splitting it to three 18". The sides would be coming out straight to the to side boxes and one going to the third box with a slight curve. Design #2 splits to three right at the supply plenum and goes to each box individually, but all three will have a slight curve. I will not be using any metal plenums..... it will be all flex duct and ductboard boxes, because of budget. I am not trying to make a perfect system, but trying to remove the restriction from the 12" undersized ducts installed and replacing the flex duct that was patched with mastic with new ones.
Another question about the installation..... I have the flex duct running up and strapped to the roof for support. Since the supply plenum is low to the floor due to the roof..... Can the flex duct be run on the attic floor? Can you tell me which layout makes more sense and less restrictive? Thank you.

Are you still looking for some answers to your questions? Might I also ask if so, where roughly you’re located and the size of your house?
Ductboard is garbage. Use sheet metal plenums and ducts. .2 tesp is what your air handler had in a factory with no ducts attached. .5 static is fine with a full duct system. Get the static down on the return side by enlarging or adding an additional return and you should be fine.

Lo que puedo decirle que la palabra que utilice "conducto" de acuerdo a la Acadermia Real espanoloa tambien puede utilizarce la palabra "conducto de aire" ya que es un sinonimo. Le adjunto la referrencia para que pueda ud entender que no es mi opinion , sino, la opinion de la Real Academia. Espero que pueda apreciar mi ilustracion.

It really depends but I got mine done for 6k and they pulled all the old metal swamp cooler ducts and configured a new system for 6k USD

@@donovanpl by using a metal wye for example 8x6x6 , 9x7x7. Inlet usually bigger in diameter

@@carrosdiecast3650 I bought my 1993 4 bedroom 2 story house 2 years ago. The filter was laying on the blower. It still has the stock Rheem heater in the attic.
Good video if you just want to watch somebody work, but lousy video for explaining how to connect various HVAC ducting.
