LYRICS:
(Ah) Georgia
Georgia
The whole day through
(The whole day through)
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)
I said a-Georgia
Georgia
A song of you
(A song of you)
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines
Other arms a-reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still, in the peaceful dreams, I see
The road leads back to you
I said, Georgia, oh, Georgia
No peace I find
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind, oh)
Other arms a-reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still, in peaceful dreams, I see
The road leads back to you
Oh, oh
Georgia
Georgia
No peace, no peace I find
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
(Georgia on my mind)
I said, just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

My name is Georgia. My dad's family was from Georgia. I was born in 1941 and Daddy insisted I would be named Georgia! Many years later, I was a student at Ohio State University in Ohio and a guy dated got tickets to surprise me to see Ray Charles and the Rayettes at the Auditorium. What a show it was!! One of the best nights of my life..Ray Charles is a master of song and when he sang "Georgia On My Mind" , I had tears in my eyes..so beautiful! I'll never forget it!
This is Beautiful💖.

Great comment, man :) I love me some Ray Charles. Christmas, country, R & B; love everything he did. God bless him!
Play some good music

@williamgregory1848. Absolutely on both.
Absolutely ! His piano and soulful voice were extraordinary gifts that can only be from god.
You can hear the passion in his voice. Truly amazing.
Sitting here listening with my 89 year old father. It may be the last time I see him... He loves beautiful music ❤
EDIT
My Father passed away peacefully on the evening of July 28. I'm so glad we listened to music together. He enjoyed it so much.
I believe we see each other again. But for a fact the spiritual realm exists.❤️
😪 My Dad's favorite song too
Such a bittersweet story. I am so sorry for your loss

i Just love this man. Who else?
It's March 2024 let's see how many legends are listening to this incredible song from 1960 .Rest in peace Mr. Ray Charles.

It’s time to go to Augusta so yeah

Georgia Georgia
A one of, the best voice in the world ! God bless him
Nobody could sing like brother Ray,listen to that soulful man.
ruclips.net/video/ZbZ4XGKCBf4/видео.html FREEDOM!!!!
I saw an interview with Billy Joel on tube. He said he (and many artists) feel/felt like Ray had the best voice and many singers wanted to sound like him. He said of all the people that tried, Joe Cocker pulled it off, more than anyone else. And that's interesting, because the two performed together and Joe even said himself that his body language is such that he tried to be like Ray... and it took on a life of its own. Anyway, I love this tune. I think it might be one of the best written (and sung) songs ever. Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World's got to be up there.
Ray Charles's voice moves me inside like nothing else ever has, thank you for this treasure!
i know another guy, El DE Barge, Quincy Jones, Barry, Michael, Prince... please !
I'm 57 white and kinda fat but ever since I was in my early 20s and I really started listening to a broader spectrum of music I heard Georgia on my mind and I still listen to it with anticipation. The pause when he first sings Georgia at the beginning of the song captures me every time. His voice is timeless to me!
Music can and should always be universally enjoyed ^.^
We should love blind, still makes me smile in 2024
fais du sport si tu es trop gros ...
Just because someone is over weight doesn't always mean it's a choice, sometimes it's medically! Where's your compassion, we need less of that rudeness and more heart for others @@poilochien
I'm 55 soon and I managed to lose 40 kilo in the past 3 years, another 20 kilo's and I'm on a 'good BMI' weight....
Playing this historically epic song while driving through Georgia.
Ray Charles refused to perform at a theater in Augusta, Georgia, because the sitting arrangement was segregated.
This song reminds me of my Granny. Born 3/18/1921 in Union Point, Ga. This song is as beautiful and graceful as she was.
I’m 22, and you can feel the emotion, the love, the reverence, the passion in ray charles voice when it comes to his homestate. Gives me goosebumps every time i listen, it brings me back to me and my mom watching the movie after school.
I love to read the comments and see how a particular song affected people's lives. Precious memories.
Totally agree, I scroll down while listening and pretty much always find someone whose life has been changed by a particular song. The deep human connection to music is just amazing!
Ditto. 🍁

It was also the theme song for Designing Women as well however there were no lyrics involved due to how the song was performed for the show.
Me too, some brings me to tears 😊
My dad knew the author in 1946. The Best Years of Our Lives. William Wyler. On film in the bar. Stone Mountain loves brother Ray. Flagler College, alumni.
Just watched "Ray" (again)/ This brings me to tears. I was born in 1949 so this is the music of my youth.
I SAW RAY CHARLES IN AN OPEN AIR FESTIVAL IN AACHEN, GERMANY: IT WAS GREAT!!! One of the best hours in my life.
Bellissima ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ che altro dire ❤❤❤❤
"Like moonlight through the pines"
Man that sounds so serene. You can almost see it and feel it
I lived in SC. Moonlight through whispering pines...there's nothing like it
you can't say enough about Ray charles . he was!!!! music . he was unbelievable!
I'm not an American, but I can imagine how proud can be people from the state of Georgia, hearing so incredible song. Simply motherless.
Nada disso, ele era impedido de cantar nesse estado da Geórgia, pois existe muita segregação lá.
Até hoje negros e brancos se odeiam.
So, why did white agree to keep this song as the hymn of their state?
I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I just expressed my opinion about the music. Nothing more@@Bza1996

(Motherless) did you mean timeless?
No ones gonna see this probably.. but im 23 and i think i was born in the wrong era.. this classic is beautiful. That goes for all songs from 1950 to the 80s

I really like the songs as a and a chance to be a really good man ...
I get where you're coming from. I'm an old soul myself. Good music can be found in every decade.
Hogey Carmichael gave life to this beautiful song but Ray Charles gave it its soul. As a native Alabamaian, I’m jealous that my neighboring state has such a beautiful song as its state song.
Qué maravilla de cantante!!
Georgia couldn't be any further removed from my experience, but Ray brings the water to my eyes.
I'm a freak with an anxiety order. But when I need to fall asleep...Ray, Georgia on my Mind. Love the backing vocals.
No such thing as a "freak with an anxiety disorder."
You sir, are a warrior.
Never forget that!
@@jdmarr2259 Thanks JD, that's means a lot. Love you brother or sister.
Having anxiety does not make you a freak, I've suffered with it for most of my life, and I'm strong and thankful. 😊
Listen to some Nat King Cole.
Please don't call yourself a freak. We all have our struggles, strengths, and I know what it's like to feel anxious now and then. You are an "Overcomer." Check out the song & video from Mandisa.
Just learned that a guy named Carmichael wrote this song about missing his sister Georgia!! Yep, but Ray made it worldwide! RIP Ray💓💓💓
Me and my brother's were born in Augusta and lived in Doraville. No matter where we go, we will always be from Georgia. Thanks brother Ray

To creating the official song of Georgia.....Ray you are legend❤️
Ray Charles didn’t actually write the song. He covered the song; Hoagy Carmichael was the one who wrote it in the 1930s.

Today, he would have been his 93rd birthday under the sun. What a tremendous voice !
Ray was the greatest!! He had so many obstacles to confront & did not complain for a minute! He accomplished so much we should all realize that there is no obstacle we cannot overcome! Thanks you Ray for your beautiful & strong life!
Good point. He overcame obstacles, MANY man-made bullshit borne out of vanity and viciousness. Lets talk about the genesis of those obstacles for a minute.
When you have that VOICE and natural absolute PITCH .....I think that obstacles are for others
trying desperately to emulate . !!!!!
It was 1959, I was a young Marine Cpl. stationed in Camp Koza, Okinawa; I went to a bar in four corners, Koza. Old Corps Okinawa Marines will understand. There I heard, for the first time, a recording of Ray Charles's Georgia on My Mind. It's been on my mind ever since.

I applaud this performance by brother Steven and give it a big thumbs up! Ps: Ray Charles played many instruments - trumpet, clarinet, organ, saxophone and piano. Ray Charles called Chopin, Sibelius, Duke Ellington and jazz giants Count Basie, Art Tatum and Artie Shaw his teachers. His most famous song is "Georgia on my Mind". But you sang a later one in the rock and roll style, when Ray Charles abandoned writing his own songs and interpreted the hits of those time

played at my dad's. he was from Alabama - huge Ray Charles fan. I remember him playing Ray on weekends - one of my earliest memories.
I was featured electric bass player in a trio that performed Georgia on My Mind and other Ray Charles songs with Ray Charles in Charleston, West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Ray Charles told the entire orchestra during the rehearsal that, the bass player, "me", could really play. The compliment from him was the thrill of a lifetime for me. It was cool. Another 15 minutes of fame.
That’s awesome!! Great stuff!!
More like a lifetime of fame. Personally i would carry that compliment to the grave. Good on u friend

Coming from Ray that’s like winning multiple Grammys.
Are you fr that’s amazing could we get to know each other cause I know h got some stories to tell
My grandfather from Georgia died at around the age of 24 in 1942. I never met him, but I would have loved to. He is not forgotten.
Hi laurie, how are you?
Spirit told me to listen to Sir Ray today. Nothing like him, a real god of Soul!
I will always remember this song playing during a very sad episode of one of my favorite shows, "Quantum Leap". A great song and a super talented man. RIP, Ray.
Watching and listening to this almost gives me chills. I guess that's what living 31 years in Georgia does.
I was born in northeast Georgia. Lived in the same town for 30 years.
Three months ago, I moved to Belgium. While it's better over here in some ways, nothing compares to the beautiful nature in Georgia. The trails, the animals, the rivers, the hills, playing in the forest, prinitive camping surrounded by nothing but trees and streams, the food. I live out in the countryside, but it's still so dense and flat compared to Georgia. I still miss it every day.
Hoagy Carmichael is one of the most under-appreciated composers and songwriters of all time.
Not many people know Hoagy Carmichael wrote this song for his sister Georgia. So many think of the state, but I suppose that’s what made the song popular. Ray sings it very well, but I still prefer to hear Hoagy sing it.
I agree
It's all about what the PUBLIC likes. Ray is known worldwide. I just learned about him today. He wrote this song because he missed his sister whose name was Georgia. Soooo it's all good.
By the way, Willie Nelson recorded it too!! Amazing really!!
SO TURE!!!
I'm so excited for the Masters in Georgia every Spring!!!

I'm 71 years old. Generation today will never really appreciate good songs
I was born in 92 brother and a good friend of mine is named Georgia and when I think of her I think of this song. On top of that I think of my family who are all mostly from Georgia but displaced to other places. My family owned and ran Bullard sausage from the 50's to the 70's which was a prominent business in that time. Even though time has passed some of us never forgot no matter how young or clueless we were.
How many young people were raised by their elders to appreciate it? Tired of hearing this from “elders
