Oh my gosh! Now I can make all the skirts I want! I've been wanting to because the cosplay I bought has this kind of skirt but never could because I didn't know how. Thank you!
Warning!! I tried to make this skirt and instead of using green fabric for the bottom I thought I was being smart and used ribbon (since it is pre-hemmed and was already a uniform width. It seemed like the best idea and well it did work but if you want the skirt to hold the nice shape that Yumi's does then I highly advise against this (Learn from my mistakes kids lol) as the ribbon wants to hold its own shape and was too thick. It wasn't a total failure but it is definitely something to consider. I wasn't going to say anything as this wasn't something that Yumi used in her tutorial but I reconsidered because if I thought of it I'm probably not the only one. That aside: Thank you so much, Yumi for the tutorials. This skirt tutorial got me interested in sewing again!
Thank you for this all the pleat tutorials I've watched give you a butt load of math and then complicated ways to fold it this just blew all of them away THANK YOU
Hello! Did you multiply your waist measurement by three (to get total length of fabric needed) because the pleats were 3 inches wide? For example...if your pleats were to be 2 inches wide would you multiply you waist measurement by 2 to get total length of fabric needed?
I just finished mine, it's all black (without the green strip), and it turned out very good! It took about 2 evenings, but it was my first skirt.Thank you so much for all your great tutorials!
Um can I ask you about the measuring? When you measure the long side of the rectangle which part do you take the number your hip or your waist ? Thank you
I'm probably going to sound dumb but how do you make your sewing machine sew your lines so straight. Like every time I try it always drift off from where I want to sew by going to the right or left making it go to the edge or over to other material. This happens even if I hold it down I guess it is just practice I have just recently gotten inspired to try with these videos I am jelly.
lady wario XD I just started to learn how to use the sewing machine too. XD I broke two needles trying to make it go straight. I really need more practice.
lady wario Hi, when I first started sewing I found it hard to sew in a straight line too. It was surprising how difficult doing a simple thing like that was, but I got used to how to hold and guide the fabric to make it go where I wanted with practice.
Yes, that's right. It helps to have a sort of marker for you to know if the fabric is getting away from you, I forgot about it and I think I do this every time. Like Stacy said, for example, if you have measurement markings under your needle and presser foot, try looking along one of those lines (I usually do it to gauge seem allowance) and line it up with the edge of your fabric. Try to sew a straight line and keep an eye on your marker, making sure that the edge of the fabric is always in the same place parallel to the line on the plate and adjust if necessary by guiding it with your hands. If you don't have any of these lines, try putting a piece of tape on the surface parallel to the edge of the presser foot. Thanks Stacy. Hope this helped as well.
Once i sewed into my thumb. The needle went through my finger 5 times. Right through it. It came out on the other side of my thumb. Like, it sewed right through my bone and everything XD (then the needle broke) It actually did not hurt as much as you would expect. But the amount of blood coming out there made me collapse XD
I just wanna say thank you for your tutorials they really help me and soon I'm going to be selling clothes for bjds ( ball jointed dolls) and I have learnt so many sewing skills from you. You are truly talented and inspiring. :)
I would probably do the waistband right after ive sown and ironed the pleats just because i hate putting waistbands on a circular project lol! Great video!!
how do you figure out how much material you need for your size?awesome tutorial!! I especially like how you added the color band to the bottom of the skirt without adding length.
Yumi, may I ask how you wash your clothes? Since they are kinda tailored for you, wouldn't they Shrink to the point where you can't wear them In a normal wash/dry?
I'm a bit confused when you sew the squares together at 1/4 of an inch. Did that throw off the measurement? Also, what kind of cotton is that? To me it looks like a poly cotton blend but it's very thin like interfacing. Last question, were you able to get the puckering out via ironing. Couldn't have you change the tension on the serger and sewing machine or used a stabilizer to prevent the puckering?
That Video was just awesome, thanks a lot! But could you also do A tutorial for the Love Live! Wonderful Rush Skirt? I would love to do this as a cosplay but I don't know how to make this skirt. Mayby you could do Honokas Skirts It would be so great!
Hi! I'm making this today! I'm actually making a school girl oufit and this will be the skirt! I'll also be using your school girl outfit tourial as the top!
Im im not sure if this is a dumb question but if we sew the rectangles 2gether than for the blue/green stripes on the bottom do we sew on each side? making sure anyways yumi thx for making this LOVE IT and all ur vids
I want to cosplay Miku so badly but my skin is a tad darker than tan and I have a an eating disorder and I'm 160 or something pounds and even my best friend points this out whenever I see him, I get made fun of for this too
keyboarddragon it doesn't matter skin color and weight as long as you have fun ☺ I wanna cosplay Miku but I'm 5'10" and 185 pounds too tall and too big but I wouldn't let that stop me if you just have fun doing what you love ☺
Hey! Don't let skin color and weight stop you! I'm a wee dark skin as well and a little tall, i also have a few birthmarks on my body that would show if i was to ever cosplay her, but that wont stop me. I hope you are doing better and hope that your friend ((or others if im mistaken))will stop making fun of your weight, as that's not something that shouldn't made fun of. Cosplay for fun and do it since it will make you happy ^-^
Omg thank you for doing this video I'm trying to learn how to sew box pleated skirt for a while this will be my first time sewing a skirt for my kande tachibana cosplay this video was easier explaining how to make it :)
+Cana Aloister I don't know if you already had your question answered, but you sew them together at the side (only one side because the other will have the zipper attaching it). So think of it as sewing it to make one very long rectangle this way :D
WOW!! this is SO detailed, yet comprehensive enough for me to understand :D I thought I was going to have to by or learn how to make a pattern to do this, but you made it so easy :DD how long was the length of your skirt and how long was the zipper? :33
Yumi King I was wondering where do u get all ur materials? Like what store or online, because I really want to make these and I want to be sure I have the right things so it can hopefully then out like urs, or a little different, also u r soooooooooo good at this!
Yumi! I only discovered your videos the other day and Im gonna try and make some next week. Thank you so much for all of these tutorials because it's easier than using a pattern and I appreciate it a lot. Keep up the good work! ﹋o﹋
Oh my gosh! Now I can make all the skirts I want! I've been wanting to because the cosplay I bought has this kind of skirt but never could because I didn't know how. Thank you!
Same

Hello! Did you multiply your waist measurement by three (to get total length of fabric needed) because the pleats were 3 inches wide? For example...if your pleats were to be 2 inches wide would you multiply you waist measurement by 2 to get total length of fabric needed?
No. Every time you pleat you multiply by 3, because a pleat is per definition 3 layers of fabric.
So cute ^-^/ I wish I had a sewing machine to make this. Great job yumi
I just finished mine, it's all black (without the green strip), and it turned out very good! It took about 2 evenings, but it was my first skirt.Thank you so much for all your great tutorials!

+Minh Thư It's the waist measurement :)

lady wario I stabbed my thumb with the sewing machine needle. I feel your pain.
Yes, that's right. It helps to have a sort of marker for you to know if the fabric is getting away from you, I forgot about it and I think I do this every time. So I was wondering, do you sew the two rectangles on top of each other? or side by side?
+Cana Aloister I don't know if you already had your question answered, but you sew them together at the side (only one side because the other will have the zipper attaching it).
