In an other video I have comment that I think the final boss will be a snake yokai, because the selection menu look like scales (even the little hexagons closed) and when Aunn declare her attack there is a patern snake scale like too, snake are knowed to be really greedy, sometime they can eat prey larger than themself. Also someone reply to me that there is an elusive 4th gang boss in the Animal Realm and snakes are usually said to be sneaky as well. And now when you talk about the tree with the apple on the menu screen, it just go on this way too, that's so so cool ! AND OMG I JUST HAVE THE IDEA TO CHECK THE MANGA LOTUS EATER BECAUSE OF YOUR STORIE, AND IN THE CHAPTER 34 WE CAN SEE A TREE WITH A SNAKE AAAAAAAAAAAAAH.. That's all, I love theories xD
We just need a pig and a snake. Odds are good the snake will be the evil poisoning animal Mafia boss mentioned in the Touhou 17 Omake.txt... and we do know from 2 cases in PC98 Zun doesn't have any issues using Judao Christian with his mythology if he wants something iconic to base his famous snake. (Interesting note, while catholicism later romanticized the snake into being a metaphor for the devil it was initially just a snake. Sure, it could be the devil if that's what you want to believe, but it doesn't really say it in the initial text)
i'm just really glad TH9 gameplay came back. Mostly because its the only way to beat other people in the same bullet hell format and it's also another game that allows plenty of unusual additions of playable characters as well as the debuted girls in that series as a Shooter than a fighter like in the fighting games. TH9 had many like Wriggle, Tewi and Prismriver who were unusual playables and now this game has Nazrin, Seiran and Aunn. It's almost unlikely any of these girls will come back as shooters so it's the most of their playable debut can go
did you mean mystia not wriggle? but yeah i think we were long overdue for another phantasmagoria game even if they're kind of tricky, especially in a modern and updated format. people really like them.
@@mollyyancey ah right i think my mind recalled Hisoutensoku somehow that tried to fit Wriggle in but couldn't. And yeah it's basically the official Bullet Hell PvP. Probably why it's part as a mainline series is cuz it would introduce many new debut characters like the other mainline games do
I think for the final boss we will finally see the 4th beast mafioso. I have heard somewhere that she has something to do with snakes, could be wrong though. Also do you think that this game could have halfway decent online functionalities? Keep in mind that tasofro will probably not be involved with this and their stuff is already quite wonky.
Hmmm... Matara-jin was associated with quite a lot of animals... When in their Uga Benzaiten and Shinra Myoujin forms they were associated with snakes, what with the former being a particular form of Benzaiten with Ugajin, a man-faced serpent, coiled up in her hair, and the latter being, well, a man-faced serpent... Matara-jin was also very closely associated with Foxes thanks to their origins as Onamuji/Ookuninushi/Daikoku/Omononushi/Miwa Daimyoujin, a.k.a. Dakiniten/Inari... (Incidentally, yes, Hata no Kawakatsu, being said to have been found as a baby outside Omononushi's temple, actually _is_ regarded as having been an incarnation of Onamuji/Ookuninushi/Daikoku.) However, there was one animal that Matara-jin was associated with more-so than any other animal: Saichou, Enchin and Ennin, the primary founders of Tendai Buddhism, did not just bring deities with them back to Japan. They also brought with them Chinese medical texts about Taoist tantric Koushin rituals. "Koushin" is written "庚申", using one esoteric kanji associated with the seventh of the ten heavenly stems representing the element Metal and the ninth branch symbol of the Zodiac meaning "monkey." Thus the divine messengers of the Tendai gods became The Three Wise Monkeys: Mizaru, Kikizaru and Iwazaru (a.k.a. "See-no-Evil, Hear-no-Evil and Speak-no-Evil). And, as it happens, Okina made an allusion to The Three Monkeys all the way back in HSiFS: "See it! Hear it! Speak of it! The secret god's true magic power shall be your greatest impediment!" Thus, should this zodiac theory hold water, I hereby submit Okina as the representative of the monkey!
For me Marisa is the representative of the monkey (for her deascription but also) for her pose in her sprite, she seem like to hold a liana with the shape of her broom
@@mollyyancey You're very welcome. ^^ I actually went on a mind blowing journey of research and discovery regarding Okina's origins a few years back. At this point it wouldn't even surprise me if ZUN admitted that he had been setting things up for Okina's reveal ever since IN, what with her having mythological connections to almost every single faction in Gensoukyou. (Warning: Incoming info dump.) In the tale of "The White Rabbit of Inaba", it was Onamuji/Ookuninushi/Daikoku who saved the life of the titular rabbit, and the rabbits of Eientei still pound their mochi in reverence to Daikoku for saving Tewi, their leader... Matara-jin was also a major god of fate/destiny: As Ena-Tenjin/Ena-Koujin, they were a Placental God of Childbirth, Destiny and the impurity and sanctity of Afterbirth. As Shukujin they were a God of the Stars and Destiny as well as Shuku and Burakumin (outcasts and untouchables, such as hunters, butchers, lepers, traveling performers and beggars). Matara-jin is also believed to have been based on Taizan Fukun, the Enma's secretary tasked with keeping records on people's Destinies as well as the highest king of the Yaksha in Hell. So that would connect Okina to Eiki (and, by extension, the Hakugyokurou and Chireiden crews) as well as Tenryu, the Celestial Dragon said to embody the Big Dipper. Okina's antagonistic history and relationship to the Tengu has already been covered well enough, but they are not the only inhabitants of Youkai Mountain that she has connections to: Onamuji/Ookuninushi/Daikoku was the father of Takeminakata, a.k.a. Suwa-Daimyoujin. Ergo, Okina is either Kanako's old man/ma'am, or her mother-in-law. Possibly both, depending on the nature of the syncretisation that formed Kanako. One of Matara-jin's most prominent incarnations is Sanmen Daikoku, or Three-Faced Daikoku, a three-headed, six-armed deity with the faces of Daikokuten, Bishamonten and Benzaiten -- this incarnation was also known as Koujin, the God of The Hearth, so that would tie Okina to the Myouren Temple... However, there was an alternate form of Sanmen Daikoku, this one had the faces of Ganesha (who was both the patron of Tantric rituals AND the leader of the Matrika, a.k.a. the Matar, the divine mothers), Benzaiten and Dakiniten/Inari (who was regarded as one of Daikoku's many forms). This alternate form was known as Yasha-jin, the God of Yaksha, the beings that Oni were based off. So that would handily tie Okina to Suika and the Oni as a whole -- we'll get back to this one in a moment... Matara-jin's connections to Hata no Kawakatsu are probably well known in the Touhou fandom at this point, (the Okinamen, the Noh Mask of The Old Man, is even said to be based on Kawakatsu's own face,) but I still think it's worth bringing up for one particular reason: The sword at Miko's side is likely the Shichiseiken, the Sword of The Seven Stars/Big Dipper, that Prince Shoutoku was said to have in his possessions. One of Okina's Spell Cards is literally Shichiseiken. So I guess in exchange for the Crown Prince's gift in the form of 66 masks (hey there, Kokoro-chan) that Kawakatsu in turn gave the Crown Prince a certain holy sword, huh? If you run an image search for Ookuninushi/Daikoku, you're probably going to notice that he's often depicted holding a little mallet. And if you read up on the lore of him, you're sure to learn of Sukuna-Bikona, the miniscule god who was his fellow parter-in-crime for a good many years. "But wait," I hear you say, "the Miracle Mallet is only supposed to work for Inchlings and Oni!" Yes, and the Highest King and God of the Yaksha of Hell, basically the progenitor of Oni, is not going to any at all sort of problems with that. Ookuninushi/Daikoku had a lot of problems with the Amatsukami, the Celestial Gods, in Japanese mythology. Like that time they chased off Takeminakata and banished Ookuninushi/Daikoku to the Unseen Realm. This, of course, would handily put Okina on Yukari's side in the conflict against the Lunarians, but there is another LoLK character Okina is a likely ally of: Doremy. Included among the Tantric teachings that Matara-jin presided over were meditation techniques meant to cultivate dream visions and lucid dreaming. This lead to Matara-jin being regarded as the King of Dreams (夢王, muou). Okina taking some active involvement with Sumireko's dreams suddenly make a whole lot more sense, huh? Ebisu (yes, I'm going for post-HSiFS games, too) has two origin stories: In the first one, he was regarded as the first-born son of Izanagi and Izanami. (Contrast that to Haniyasu-shin, who was Izanami's last-born... It's not a coincidence that Eika and Keiki made their debut in the same game and that they both have an "Idol" theme.) In the second origin story, however, Ebisu was originally known as Kotoshironushi and was the son of Ookuninushi. So either Okina is Eika's mom, (I bet a really good, heart-warming and kinda heart-wrenching fanfic or doujin could be made about Okina using her position as the Enma's secretary to visit Eika,) or they are connected by virtue of being among the Seven Gods of Fortune... Or, given the possibility of syncretism again, "Why not both?" Finally, as a kunado-no-kami/Chimata no Kami, a god of crossroads, hindrances and outcasts, Matara-jin is sometimes also associated with Dosojin, a.k.a. Momodayuu/Hyakudayuu. That's the same "dayuu" as in "Komakusa-Dayuu", btw. You know, Sannyo's nickname. Worth taking note of because Yamajorou are a kind of Yamanba, who are connected with Matara-jin as they are "people of the fringes." Momodayuu/Hakudayuu was specifically worshipped by prostitutes, courtesans and puppeteers... Plus, you know, that stuff about Chimata no Kami obviously connecting her to Tenkyuu. (I also feel it worth mentioning at least once that Matara-jin also has mythological ties to Shiva: Daikoku is based on Mahaakaala, Shiva's most powerful form, and Sanmen Daikoku is considered a manifestation of Daijizaiten/Ishanaten, who is regarded as synonymous with Shiva.) Okina's name is also pretty fun to analyze. First of all as it (as I mentioned before) obviously refers to the Okinamen, a Noh theatre mask of an old man, said to be based upon the face of Hata no Kawakatsu. However, the "Oki" part of her name is written with the same kanji used for Okinoshima/Oki island, 隠岐の島町, the home of The White Rabbit of Inaba. The individual kanji in Okina's name are also significant: 隠 (o) means "hidden", which is meaningful enough when it comes to Okina, but it is also the etymological root to 鬼 (oni), tying into Matara-jin's epitaph as Yasha-jin. 岐 (ki) means "theatre", which ties into Okina's role as the goddess of Noh, but it may also be an allusion to the kunado-no-kami (岐の神), the gods of crossroads, Matara-jin being said to have been one of their number. Finally, 奈 (na) could allude to Naraka/Hell, trying into Matara-jin's role as the Yama's secretary, but it may also refer to a theatre's basement, once again tying into the Noh motifs. In conclusion, ZUN is a genious.
Ability cards are fine, specially if they can be made static and there aren't broken combinations that trivialize the other combinations. I thought 18.5 was fine, maybe not as a orthodox shmup but it was fun. It's alright it doesn't have "spell practice" mode. The individual pattens, even on lunatic/hard mode, in versus shmups are very easy and relatively basic. The difficulty that comes from those games is the overlap of various patterns and random bullet spawns. So the game's difficulty comes from the RNGesque situations you end up in, so basically just bump up the game on hardest mode in versus and that's your practice.
yeah i realized later that i didn't see any money blocks in the gameplay so i'm guessing the ability cards are just a funny shot type thing that you can choose without gradually gaining new ones in the run. and yeah, i pretty much didn't expect spell practice basically because of what you said.
