When body /blood is in urgent need of glucose it converts glycogen to glucose which is called glycogenlysis but one more method is there called gluconeogenesis which is conversion to glucose but from non carbohydrates such a lipids and protein !!
To remember just think that if you lose body fat by doing excercise and lowering you calorie intake then your body will prefer to go for gluconeogenesis from your existing body fat present in adipose and save the glycogen for emergency use !!
