- A large fire that broke out Monday, April 22, 2024 at a municipal airport hangar in central Edmonton, destroying the historic resource, is being investigated as suspicious.
The 7,400-square-metre wood-framed Hangar 11 was situated between the NAIT campus and the Blatchford neighbourhood, alongside what used to be Edmonton’s City Centre Airport.
Hangar 11 was a municipal historic resource that was built in 1942 by the U.S. Air Force to support the Second World War efforts. It was believed to be the last remaining building of its kind in Western Canada.
The cause of the fire and a damage estimate is not yet known, but the Edmonton Police Service said it was being investigated as suspicious.

an army hangar already burned in Goose Bay, Labrador a few days ago.....strange
Who gets the insurance?
Arson. They need the space!
This is how they clear the way for condo's to be built without having to adhere to stringent historical / heritage rules. Laws need to change to ensure any heritage building that is destroyed, the land automatically reverts to public parkland, no exceptions
Something's fishy
The Edmonton municipal airport (by NAIT and the Jefferson Armoury) was the first licensed airport in Canada
Sad
It's history now.
this is a national tragedy how do we only have 7 k views!
Not many people can actually afford to eat AND have the internet too. People that can still afford it are giving up watching online news because trying to comment is impossible with Justin Hitler's new censorship in Canada. I personally am thinking on deleting jootube from my life the same as I did with arsebook five years ago.
Just made way for import housing.
Definitely arsen
So all the investors pulled out and the owner burned it down. No way the city would allow them to demolish it, and it would remain a cost for the owner.
Thats a real shame .
Okay
A diversity fire fighter? We know the standards are LOW.
Some people just don't want us to have nice things, or freedom, or comfort, or safety, or...
