Good on you Fern, I think many of us who struggle with our weight would have done the same as you, if we had the spare cash. I don't see what all the fuss is about in this age of fixing bits we don't like by cosmetic surgey. Beauty comes from within, and whatever your size, you're beautiful! I whined about my weight for years, but it's my responsibility. I finally decided to do something about it and joined Weight watchers, and have lost 2 stone in 4 months. Stick with it Fern, you're great.

Lorraine made people believe for years that being a bit overweight was ok and she championed plump women saying how fab it was...then she made weight loss and keep fit videos and suddenly she herself seemed to reverse what she was preaching to thousands of women......how do you think that makes all these women feel ??
If she was so proud of herself then why not mention it? because she wanted a standing ovation from everyone thinking she did it all by herself, without any help. oh well, at least she did something about her weight but i still think she was trying to fool everyone!
I dont know why she had to tell anyone. Its her own business and no one elses. It was a private decision and its not easy to make a decision to have surgery. A band doesn't do all the work. She still has to diet and exercise to lose the weight. It just helps with portion control. If she woud have continued snacking or grazing the band wouldn't work, so stuff your gobs all you hyprocrites and as the previous reader said, get a life.
For people with eating medical problems that cause them to gain weight uncontrolably I think these bands are a God's send, and i have nothing but respect for the people who take such a risk to get their lives back on track, but Fern became obese due to pure greed and gluttony! I know its easy to do as i put on 2st in about 4 months when i stopped smoking and was because i was just a greedy pig for that time, but i worked damned hard to get fit. Fern didn't. I dont know why she had to tell anyone. Its her own business and no one elses. It was a private decision and its not easy to make a decision to have surgery. A band doesn't do all the work. She still has to diet and exercise to lose the weight. It just helps with portion control. If she woud have continued snacking or grazing the band wouldn't work, so stuff your gobs all you hyprocrites and as the previous reader said, get a life.
For people with eating medical problems that cause them to gain weight uncontrolably I think these bands are a God's send, and i have nothing but respect for the people who take such a risk to get their lives back on track, but Fern became obese due to pure greed and gluttony! I know its easy to do as i put on 2st in about 4 months when i stopped smoking and was because i was just a greedy pig for that time, but i worked damned hard to get fit. Fern didn't. Hence my previous comment.

The only reason it was controversial was is because she sponsored rhibeta! Which is advertised as a weight loss food - so the fact she had help does ruin the image a tad, even if it's all nonesense it's what she was paid for.

Hmmmm. The price of fame, is loss of privacy. She should have come clean. People think Fern is normal just like them, losing weight the normal way - by diet and exercise. Now all the fatties out there who thought they too could do it will give up, because they can't afford a six grand gastric band. The message from Fern is, actually, you have to cheat.

i used to like fern but she has become a liar! she had to tell the public about her op because she was doing those Ryvita ads making a lot of people think that she just ate Ryvita and shed the stones that way! i don't think we should know everything but she was trying to make herself look good by keeping it a secret! also, i m sick of fern being sarcastic and putting her middle finger up at us the public, on the Paul O'grady show!
