- When Dakota is not in his awesome turbo diesel vw bus he is spending his time scaling a glacier or guiding tourists through the Alaskan rain forest....not bad for a van dweller. And as a disclaimer, I shot this video in September of 2016 and he still hasn't got his website set up. It could be he spent a considerable amount of time overseas as a temp worker or he is too busy living to worry about a website. But rest assured, once he gets a site up I will be sure to link it to this video.

I've got a 1968 VW Campermobile, similar in the way it pops up with a bed up top plus mine also has it where it makes a hammock over the front seats, also sink & fridge, I noticed a lot of people asking about bathing you can easily make an outdoor shower with solar hot water ,my first hot water was a 100' black water hose, it made plenty of hot water, good luck and God bless. ✌

Nice setup; I really like the idea of that add-a-room instead of an awning. It really opens up the possibilities of how someone can structure their living space as a full-timer staying in one place for a while.
I probably bike right past him when we were up in Seward in July. We stayed 3 nights in the Seward Waterfront Campground across from the shower building. All you need in Seward is a bike.

Bombay Jack assistance struts for your top make all the difference in the world raising and lowering.
GoWesty.com also sells a set of poptop struts as well and yes it makes a big difference raising the top with a load on it.
Nice Van! When you get around to replacing the tent in the poptop, you'll get two more side widows which are really nice in hot weather.

I had a 63 with a factory tent set up... OMG... it I had it today it would be $100K +.. LOL... If only I knew...
You would have had to either garage it all this time, or put 100K into restoring it! LoL!
Where can I buy a tent like that? I bought a van maybe 25% longer than his, but I'm planning on traveling with 2 100lbs+ dogs, so a little extra living space would be nice.

Would the add a room work with other Class B vans such as a MB Sprinter? We have a 2011 Roadtrek and have only seen rooms that hang on your awning (seems like a bad idea). Just wondered. Thanks!

Stax of Funk I had the same thought...wondered if you can close/lock the van slider with the tent attached. Does the tent attach into the door slide slot?
Also...where does your dog stay when you're at work? Too hot in the van...not very secure in the tent...there are creeps who might think it funny to let him out or harm him and if there are bears...?

VW put a rabbit diesel engine in some of the early 80-83 models. They are gutless and folks usually re--engine them.
