You might consider adding a BlazeCut fire suppression system. Mounts with zip ties above the engine - if you get an engine fire (change your fuel lines every 5 years) it is under pressure and the hose pops and extinguishes the fire in less than one second. I have a 79 Campmobile. Love yours!
They are definitely reliable if properly looked after. If you're referring to the fuel lines comment, the introduction of fuels that contain ethanol has been shown to corrode or deteriorate these old fuel lines. This has caused a lot of barbecued buses in recent years. In Europe this is a problem especially as the EU has allowed fuel to contain even more ethanol than previously.
I had a 1972 Worlds fair a edition. Same color as this one. Gave it away 10 years ago. Big mistake. You never know which way your life will turn. It was so fun. Yeah, everyone waves especially other VWs. So fun
The fuel gauges in these old busses are notoriously unreliable. I have a 71 Bay and it's the same. "Full" shows about 3/4 but as a rule when mine shows empty I just fuel up anyway. That being said, I also keep a jerry can in the bus!
Excellent Safety Briefing regarding Fuel Lines (2) and corrective/immediate action. Dude, you Must let the Wet Suit dry completely before storing and or stowing. May want to hose it down especially following salt water or even pool/chemical exposure. Great Video!
You see VWs everywhere in Europe. I think it's harder to maintain because of that and its quirks, overall a classic. Wish I could have known what made him choose to film and travel in a van compared to other modes of travel and if it has changed him in any way in terms of inner growth. Thanks :) nice interview.
Hey! I originally chose a van because I loved the overloading lifestyle and it seemed to be fairly practical especially with film equipment etc. As well the price of vans is usually pretty low which is nice! I've always sort of been in love with the idea of being able to have a mobile living space. In terms of inner growth it definitely teaches you how to be flexible and shows you that you don't need a lot of 'stuff' in order to be happy. I think vans are a great way to travel but I am also very keen on boat travel as well and am hoping that is the next adventure!
1. Yes, you can indeed and probably should (some of mine are steel braided but haven't gotten around to doing them al. 2. I'm really lazy... but it is no longer empty so were safe now! (I had to use it on a small fire)
Forrest Stevens ha no. VW Type 2s average 14-18 mpg. Camper models, especially those by Westfalia with poptops, are at the lowest part of that range. My MUCH larger Ford ExtendedBody Econoline with Sportsmobile poptop gets 17-20. Check fuelly.com or thesamba.
NICE! don't worry about not having an air bag, a lot of them have been deadly! your way better off without all that modern crap, I wish to God they would bring back roll down windows , every car I've had, and there were many! that's the first thing to go!! & get rid of computers in cars, computers don't belong in cars! off grid alert.
2Bfree Rogerthat! Disagree. Computer still useful and help a lot people. You like vintage is fine; but don't go backward and not improve new in future.

Thanks man! yeah I usually do, and every couple weeks I give it a light scrub with some sunlight soap and let it air dry seems to do the trick.
Have you ever noticed a warning label under the pop-top latch that says: Fahren nur mit verriegeltem Dach?

Gracias nice van good video.
I love his vans name
Lovely content! Keep it up!
I don't get why on earth you would remove a heater when you can just turn it off. That just kind of blew my mind.
sometimes the VW heater can cause a nasty smell even if it is not switched on
So cute!!!! What was this video about???
Question. Where would one be able to find an old Volkswagen bus to restore?
I got mine from the website thesamba.com
Prop engine hood open or take out on hot days?
Cute
Add fans to keep engine cool?
minty
How fast Can it max drive
Pretty cool van. but it most have cost him a pretty penny.
2 questions:
1 - can you replace the fuel lines w/ steel braided or the like?
2 - why carry around an empty extinguisher?
a - why is it empty?
1. Yes, you can indeed and probably should (some of mine are steel braided but haven't gotten around to doing them al.
2. I'm really lazy... but it is no longer empty so were safe now! (I had to use it on a small fire)
Nice content! great bus. Please check out also out our VWT2tin-top converted to camper travelling across North and Central America.
Beautiful van but I’d imagine you’d have to spend a fortune on gas
not to sure but these vans are small 4 cylinder engines, so the gas consumption would be much lower than most other vans.

Did you say it has a lot of Bondo in it? Oh no ...
Man, do something to stop that rust. What a shame ...

Backward thinking, ignorance at its finest.
SecondChances Smokey&TheAbandon So true, I am so damn tired of replacing my Honda Element windows..
Do you live, in your bus, or do you, live in a house?
Ah ha ah ha...
LOL... your the crumple zone... dude I hope not.
You should stop making videos like this. I mean how can we focus on the van when he looks darn cute?
هتجن ياريت يا اخولنا مرحتش لوندون ولا باريس
ahmed radwan quite possibly... Not too sure though
That was painful to watch.
What were you expecting? It's just a van tour.
