David handed me a single red rose back in the day. I think I was just 16. I only went to the concert because my Aunty Ann didn't want to go on her own. It was a fantastic night. I remember feeling sad that he didn't give it to Ann. Ann was like my 2nd mum. I wanted to preserve the rose, but didn't know how. I put it in the freezer thinking it would give me time to work it out. I don't know what happened to the rose in the end. This track reminds me of the love of my life, and how absolutely amazing she is.
I am from India, but back in 90s we had access to audio tapes.. i remember this song listening with my friend when i was jut a teen.. this is priceless for me
To blokes of a "certain age" this was an event, all piling dahn the Dominion on Tottenham Court Road on our 250's wiv L plates to watch the man! Long 'air, stretch jeans and white pumps, wheelies and the birds! Where did it all go so wrong Ha ha! LOVE IT! X
I've had this playing in my head for the past hour. I said to my wife let's find it on RUclips. You don't be hear this on the radio anymore, probably the last time ever hear it, let's give it an airing
I requested this on our local 6pr talkback radio in Perth, WA a few months ago for the very same reason that you say here. I said I didn't think it had been played on the radio for years and needed an airing, it was played on the after midnight show. I love the piece of music in the middle too. I haven't actually seen the film and would like to get hold of it on DVD. David is very nice-looking in his younger days and has a very nice smile. I sought out video clips of interviews on here to see what he looks like now. He's white-haired now but has aged well really. Still got the smile! I like his other songs too with his cockney accent. Our talkback 6pr radio can be heard online in most countries. Goes 24/7, midnight to dawn, then daytime programmes. Night times are mainly talkback but they'll play the occasional song, and midnight will take some requests, hence my one.
One of my all time most enjoyable songs and films . I'm nearly 50 now but i remember as a boy no older than 9/10 , my dad and uncle taking me to a Speedway meeting near Dartford The Crayford kestrels , and this song was always playing before racing started , got me so exited .And so started my obsession with racing and bikes .
I have been looking for the full movie for ages. My son is a bike maniac and I keep telling him about this movie. It was epic and it stuck in my mind for years now already.
I had the pleasure of being in his musical "All the Fun of the Fair" last year and this was the end of show big number . This song is still embedded in my head to this day 😂
I was bought the album for Christmas the year it came out I was 16 then now 56 and still have it I've ridden bikes all my life and done some racing here and there down through the years and every time I listen to this it brings back such great memories.
It reminds me of the day of Top of the Pops, primary school, cooking dinners from Mum, and having to stop watching TV so Dad could watch the 5.45 ITN news. GOOD TIMES!
I've been frustrated for ages - not even my parents remembered this. I was 6yrs old and remembered the melody but nothing else. So tonight - and I don't know why - I looked it up on the worlds premier memory enhancer and here it is! Thanks for uploading. Will link or play for my olds and see if they remember it now. thinking about it - it's a wonder I've never broken myself on a bike. I don't ride 'em unless my legs are the engine.
@Spaldingcrow, you should count your lucky stars! I only found out about this track because of purchasing the entire movie soundtrack on vinyl from a record shop. Currently, my record player is broken. One of my favourite tracks from said record, is not on RUclips. If you can find it from the "World's [best] memory enhancer", please do let me know. The track is by The Real Thing and is called "Where is Love".
Here am I, I'm going for another try, Flying high, I've got a lot of love inside. Is there love enough now to get me through? Yeah, I know now where I'm going to - Not to lose now but to win; Tell me, how do I begin? I've a dream, silver dream machine. Well, alright, I've got a lot of love to try, 'Cause love is the thing, And freedom is the word I sing. Is there force now, yeah, to get us through? Yeah, it's deep in me and it's deep in you - Not to lose now but to win, Tell me how do I begin? I've a dream, silver dream machine; Silver dream, silver dream machine. Is there love enough now to get me through? Yeah, I know now where I'm going to - Not to lose now but to win; Tell me how do I begin? I've a dream, silver dream machine; Silver dream, silver dream machine; Silver dream, silver dream machine.
I loved this movie & I had a huge crush on David Essex back in the 80’s, there were 2 endings for this movie & I saw both, such a sad ending, ain’t seen it in years now though, ain’t got it on dvd, my brother had it on video back in the day which is how I saw it, not sure if you can get it anymore, I’d want the full movie with the extended ending
@steve01274 I watched the version where he crashes when I was a kid and the other one yesterday. I had no idea about two versions and could not understand why I had the idea from long ago about the crash. Thanx, I now understand. The movie made me a huge fan of Suzuki and the bike used looks like a Gamma ...
Great memories I tried to get into the cinema but at 12 they knew I wasn't 16 it was a AA back in the day..... The film echoes the Sheene (god rest him) / Roberts rivalry with Bazza racing in the clips ! Apparently the SDR was only a 125 Suzuki in flashy clothes....Had us fooled ! Today I own 5 motorbikes ride safe all !!
Yes it was a Barton Phoenix, which was built as a serious (though not very successful) challenger for the GP title. Essex wasn't allowed to ride it (insurance reasons) so his bike was a Honda Superdream mocked up to look like the Phoenix. I reckon there were lots of similarities between him and Barry Sheene.
yeh in the original british cinema release he crashes at the end, in the american version it fades to black as he crosses the finishing line. I prefer the original ending.
I remember this in 1980. I was 12! Remembered the song, but never saw the film until 1993. It was on that summer - Looked pretty dated. 'Silver Dream Racer' I think it was called. There was a black guy called CIDER. I kept losing interest, but forced myself to watch it. I don't think the song appeared in it, but may have had backing tracks used as parts of the soundtrack!
Just watched a program about Blur, there was nothing amazing, but it appeared the lead singer was very good looking and so Blur must have had a lot of female fans. So the rivalry against Oasis who must have had a stronger male ratio , 90s indy Pop scene for a different generation.

Have loved this song since I first heard it in the 80s a big fan of David Essex.
I had the pleasure of being in his musical "All the Fun of the Fair" last year and this was the end of show big number . This song is still embedded in my head to this day 😂
This song seems largely forgotten, which is a shame because it's pretty amazing, and David Essex came before my time, seeing as I was born in 1977.
Same year as my son
True 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The golden era of British television.
Great track and amazing movie, loved it, and by coincidence at that time I had a Silver Suzuki Gt, brings back great memories when I hear it.
My favourite David Essex song. Very catchy tune.
Cracking Bit of film, I never went so fast on my Raliegh Striker!
David's a massive part of my youth, a pop/rock music legend. Long may he live. 🙏🏼
I was bought the album for Christmas the year it came out I was 16 then now 56 and still have it I've ridden bikes all my life and done some racing here and there down through the years and every time I listen to this it brings back such great memories.

So glad I found this song new of my all time favourites. Rock on David 😊😊
Awesome song. Heard this when I was a little boy.
They always mute the ending where the motorcycle's engine is revving so high, it is almost screaming. Gave me chills when I first heard it.
You have to go to races. Thestart rattles your teeth😅😊
Brilliant.... David looking gorgeous as always.
Bloody great tune - happy memories of great times
I run off with my friend to Imatra rr races 1977. Cecotto, Agostini.WORTH IT

As a kid when this came out into xtc/Jam/Madness when this came out this didn’t register. However now I see David was a great artist!
I have always loved this song one of his greatest ❤😊
Every vehicle I bought...silver...thats how this inspired me when I were a boy..
Once upon a time in South Africa

I'm lightening the cog ....grind sparks 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂What a comedy it was to us young bikers on our rd400s and Honda 550s etc 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@zakwilks
Not in the dvd that I watched, how is that?
I was 16 year old just left school
Sweet sweet love ♥
Gosh he looks a lot like Kevin Rowland when he isn't smiling. With their Anglo-Irish background, wouldn't be surprised if they are related.
What minor problem i had was that David did'nt ride the Suzuki!!!
I swear I can hear him
Ladies do you remember when him on Honda 750 cc was the dream machine.
Or TT ?
Top gun
My sister had a blow up poster of him on our bedroom wall
