Written by Mike Batt, one of Britain’s greatest songwriters. ‘We wish you a Wimbling Merry Christmas’ was another one of his gems, and my personal Christmas favourite.
My Mum loved David Essex. We had to watch a bizarre sitcom where he was on a canal boat. It's nine years since Mum died, I miss her every single day (she was my best friend!) So I watch this for her. I miss you Mum!
My mum to also like that show or maybe David Essex. I hated it as a small boy. Now I would give it all to watch that show with my mum. Just one last time.
My ex-(now late) wife knew David Essex (as David Cook), they grew up as teenagers on the same housing estate in Chadwell Heath and had many fond memories of parties that they, and friends, attended.
Back in1982 my favourite radio programme on BBC Radio 2 was hosted by Terry Wogan. He absolutely adored this song and plugged it whenever he could. Thanks to Terry it rocketed into the charts. God Bless the late, great Terry Wogan. Thanks for everything Terry.
My mum loved Terry Wogan too! I remember growing up to his great breakfast show on radio, he was so funny, but also nice. His video of "The Floral Dance" always has me in stitches, half way through he sort of corpses as if to say "Why am I here, singing this song? Oh well, better carry on." A great man.

Music business is as murky as any other. How else could a nonentity like Harry Styles become an international star? Capital Radio for example, played his songs relentlessly over the past year, and dropped his name at least once between every single record they played, like there was some kind of commercially driven campaign to make Harry Styles “happen” by beating audiences into submission.
