As someone who has been using the core for a long time it's interesting to see the differences between version 1 and the current version 6. So many small improvements have been made over the years but they're still very similar.
I feel like a split ortholinear keyboard like a Kinesis or a dactyl manuform would be amazing with the core, having the thumb modifier buttons and no staggering on the keys. They might even make grid almost as good as the core with some tweaks
its allways interesting to see how other people handle things. alltho every time i see keybinding stuff i feel like living in an alternate universe xd. since im using custom keyboards and i can program and create my own layouts within qmk for example, my entire mindset of keybind layouts is drasticly different. i dont even care about ingame settings or configs at all. i just program my keyboards firmware to create a layout that does what i want it to do within the keyboard itself. i can slap my keyboard to anyones pc and my keybinds are the exact same too and making use of multiple layers and stuff. for example the camera settings on f1-f4. i dont use those keys, i dont even have f keys. but instead capslock is triggering a different layer so caps q w e r is triggering f1-f4. my spacebar is jumping between the nexus but if i do caps+space it will trigger a different key on every press. so basicly if i press it once, it is f1, if i press it again its f2 and so on, so basicly my entire basic camera controls are on one key. but thats stuff that you cant even do on a regular off the shelf keyboard. basicly you press a key and the key enters one command , but what command that is, is irellevant..it can be whatever you want, and there are also different types of pressing a key, for example tapping a key or holding a key can be 2 complete different inputs. You hold shift + something: does something. but i can also say that shift should do something on its own if i just tap it instead of holding it. that way i can center way more keybindings on on a shorter key cluster, using less fingers.
Hmm... Should I consider changing my hotkeys? This guy is a lot better than me and definitely knows what he's talking about... Let's just see if-- "Okay guys so I've got my fingers on J, I, O and P" *turns off video*
Hello I'm late to the party, just beginning SC2 in 2023 Thx for sharing that cam on the right side of the keyboard, very instructive I'm a total beginner, currently unranked (lol) slow-learner but efficient one Basic controls are weird af How am i supposed to hit CTRL+F2 (or even f3-8) ? *Confirmed that blizzards headquarters are actually lizardmen with giant's hands, distracting us with videogames while we forget our past* Ok i'm digressing, 😅 Gonna give the core a try thx mate
hmm years later i still think grid is super alien but you can take away principles of it. i use left side but i reduced the work my pinkie has to do. i changed my laptops keys entirely where i put shift on capslock so my pinkie can go one row up wich is mor comfy than having it down there. i unbound ctrl and put ctrl to my side mousebutton. so now my thumb is doing space and alt and my pinkie only presses one button wich is capslock. my mouse equals control groups while my keyboard equals camera locations. so i have alt+capslock + qwerasdf to create camera location and alt qwerasdf as jump to locations. and i have sidemousebutton+capslock qwerasdf as controlgroups and sidemousebutton qwerasdf to use controlgroups. and the other sidemousebutton is tab. and most of the important spells are all on spacebar. so spellcaster use is mainly spacebar and alt qwe are my first 3 bases, sidemousebutton qwe is my production for barracs/factory/starport stuff like that. it sounds confusing but all i have to remember is: qwe movement commands, alt qwe camera and mouse qwe controlgroups. for the most part i only use those 3. because as a gold player i simply dont have a use for, nor can i manage like 6 camera locations. 3 bases and production is usually enough. biggest gamechanger for me tho was unbinding add and create controlgroup. and only using add and steal. it kind of does the exact same thing as create and steal so i didnt see a need to have both. both do the same: move a unit into a controlgroup and delete it somewhere else. if i select all my barracs it literally does not matter if i use add and steal or create and steal, they both create a new controlgroup. that way i opened up an entire modifier key to do other things
Hi There! Hi Probe! Thx for the content! I'm using the core 6.0 and its really efficient! I was so bad (mechanically) before! But just to compare and improve some hotkeys, what is the version of yours? 4.0? And if someone knows what version of core using Pig and Neuro i'm curious!! 🐷😂🤣 So thanks a lot Probe for sharing this content!! Hope you fine! And best things for the futur! Peace from France! 🎉🇫🇷😂 +1!!!!
I moved everything to the left side (immortals on R, patrol on Y etc). Interesting thing about the thumb, but I feel like I have more movement on the pinky.
I also have my patrol on Y but my immo is the last unit I want to move. I’m hesitating between R and X. Both are kinda natural to me, I believe one week will be enough to get used to it
@@ProbeSC2 Also as a vim user I watched this and decided I’d finally give in and learn a more optimal set of keybinds :). Great video! (I know I’m late to the party)

that sounds nice, i should try custom keyboards too. always wanted to use spacebar as a modifier, and, maybe an extra key between alt + spacebar.

Gonna give the core a try thx mate
Yeah the default screen hotkeys are terrible. Even the average player rebinds them down so it's just f1-f4.
Layering is a smart choice.
I don’t tilt my keyboard bc i get tilted enough in game
tilt the keyboard so much that you become untilted

nice keyboard...
Wrist pain on the keyboard arm? Never heard of that.
Personally I have always had the issues there. With 800 dpi on the mouse never had it on my mouse hand.
Do you actually use the pinky much at all then? I have a broken pinky that never healed quite right so it might be nice to no longer need it.
Yeah way less than the 'normal' side.
Probably 1 or 2 units/buildings and no control groups or abilities.

Yeah it is definitely personal preference, but happy to see you moved everything closer.
Using my pinky was hurting my wrist.

Only thing I'd say is I don't like having hotkeys on my mouse, but if it is working for you, then go for it.
