My last Red Forest tank did very well and you all seemed to like it. So I thought I would do it again, but this time ALL red! I thought that the white fish would go really well against the the red plants and really sets a tone for the tank.

Scape is absolutely outstanding, you've really developed a unique style over the years.. and the impression part at the end is just wonderful 💚 music&vid
The music theme reminds me a lot about Stargate: Universe, the last episode from the second series. I so much regret the ending of that amazing piece of (sci-fi) art.
What’s the twin star light you use for red plants? My red plants are more… green… than anything right now
Honestly, I've never been a fish person. I've come across this channel and have started to enjoy the (art form) of tank building. The camaraderie between MD and Matt is fun to watch.
Not only an Art but a science. That’s what they call this hobby
Not only an Art but a science. That’s what they call this hobby
Glad you are enjoying it mate. Get yourself a little nano tank.
@@MDFishTanks I have this built in bookcase in my living room/parlor. Different height shelves, very deep too. I have started to think about that, I wouldn't mind a mini crab, wood, some plants and low water.
Do NOT get yourself a tank… trust me… starts with 1 nano tank…. Now I have 16 😅😅
by an absolute mile the best aquarium channel on youtube , no messing around talking to the camera for ages just straight in with the scaping and planting , love it
🤣 I do chat a little but I try to make it either necessary, relevant, or funny. Not just waffling for the sake of it.
@@MDFishTanks Personally I like the "waffling", gives these videos a really chill vibe to just watch and enjoy. Feels a little bit like being there messing around with your mate setting up amazing tanks... Never change MD!
@@TheNumptyy ok...not to self...more waffling 🤣
I like how MD gets stuck in but also a little tangent every now and again is good 😊
MJ is sound n'all
I'm enjoying the new studio, I can see how much more efficient you are while scaping new tanks with the extra room and stations dedicated for each task you do. I feel like it has improved the quality of your videos by a lot!
Yeah it feels a lot more fun as well. More like a club house with different areas.
@@MDFishTanks that's the most important thing, to be having fun!
As good as it is to see you do a scape with Matt, it’s actually quite nice watching you do one again by yourself
beautiful tanks as always ❤️
I'm working on my own red forest! Most of my plants are arriving tomorrow. Not going to look anything near as nice as yours but I'm excited. I haven't done a planted tank since I was about 12. 😅
Goodluck!
I think one thing that really sets your tanks off is unlike some out there, your hard scape always looks like it could be an awesome tank on its own. So no matter what plants go in, it already looks perfect
Yeah get that bit right and you are laughing.
Been saying that since day one:)
That's what George Farmer used to say on his earlier video's.
Even though you said the studio isn't in a shop... but what if you did have a shop. You and Matt, having your own fish shop together! Matt with knowledge of fish, and you, with tank builds, etc! That be one successful little shop... 👀
A Male Red betta with albino red guppies and cherry shrimps and red platys and swordtails would be perfect
The ending shots of the tank are gorgeous! You can really appreciate the tank, the scape and its habitants!
I feel like I'm living vicariously through your channel. I can't think of one of your tanks that I wouldn't want in my house. This is definitely a tank that I would love to do!
How long do you expect the substrate to provide nutrients for the plants before there are none left. And at that point will the plants die, i.e time to trip it all out and start again? Looking great by the way!!!!!
Because of the red and red-orange plant tones, I would have rather seen a group (6) of dwarf neon blue rainbow fish and a school of say 20 turquoise neon tetras. Complimentary fish colors, to the plant colors in the tank, will brighten the colors of the fish and the plants, simultaneously. Blue to red-orange, turquoise to red. Plus, these fish like a stream and will swim in front of the plants. (If there were lime green neon tetras, I’d say go for it!)
The rasbora kubotai is like a neon green fish that would absolutely insane in this tank I think 🤔
The studio looks sooooo good. The tanks look way better in this room then the previous room. Love it
6:35 Please, we all know that the culmination of this story arc is that you acquire maidenhead aquatics. ;)
Actually, most of it is not from Maidenhead. I used to be supported by aquarium gardens and they provided a lot over a few years.
I've been working from home and my husband walked by as I was watching this build-- he was absolutely amazed at how gorgeous the red plants look and "convinced" me to get some as well. Such terrible torture, had to break my arm, what a compromise :D
First of all this looks beautiful I love it. Second of all, you keep teasing those middle two tanks!!! I'm too impatient for this hahaha
Coming up 😁
Have you ever tried squeezing a filter sponge from an established tank to get your beneficial bacteria going that way? with the amount of new tanks you set up should save a bit of money I'd imagine.
I went and bought some flood lights at the local hardware store today, told him I’m going to use it for fish tanks and we had a whole chat… he asked if I saw it on MD, & I was like no way!
from South Africa 🇿🇦 Love the vids
Hi just a quick question. Can you use tropica substrate (clay one) with sand on top? Just got mixed reviews on it. Like to know your thoughts on it .. thanks
🇨🇦 I just love chillin on my couch, watching your video with a Crown & Coke, puffing on my bong. eh.. 🇨🇦
I am 349 years old. In a former life, I was also a betta fish. I did, indeed, swim in mild streams. Case closed.
This may be my favorite aquascape you've done by far. The hardscape and plant composition is PERFECT. Those neons are mesmerizing - I am so glad you went with a new fish we haven't seen much of before (and I have personally never seen). I just can't wait to see what you do next with all those empty canvases in your new studio!
I saw a debate in a comment about if they go in streams as well. I say, I currently have a wild betta which used to live in a tank with slow to medium water flow, and she was fine. Still exploring and stuff. It depends whether its body structure allows it to do so
This is one of the nicest scapes, especially for a beta, that you have done so far. Love it
You need a trolley cart for the studio to wheel things around the studio while working on things or on setups. You can load it up tmeith the materials you need the push the cart to where ever you need to use and everything is available close by at hand.
I absolutely love your channel! I just want to say that I understand why you have the thumbnails like you do, yet I'm sometimes disappointed that the end result gets spoiled 😅
ABSOLUTE TON! Love your work, love new studio, cheers to postman because he is like me: you inspired me, also, to ''get wet'' and design my first tank. I've bought Jewel Rio 120 cabinet, got custom made tank (optiglass, 8 mm), listened to your recommendation about lights - Amazon FTW, Fluval 406 filter (stuffed with full liter of Matrix), brewed some botanicals and made beautiful black water planted tank! Family love it, best thing I did in long time. Greetings from Croatia!
Nice one again mate. I'm wondering if you'd consider making a video on the longterm upkeep of the non-filtered and filtered tanks. I understand that you need to change things up quite a lot for content and you're in a unique position to be able to do that with Matt, but us normal folk shouldnt be bringing fish back to the shop and should be in it for the long run. So if that sounds interesting to you I'd like to find out more on for instance how long does the soil stay good nutrient wise, do you need to change it at some point, that sort of stuff. Anyways, cheers for the great content :)
when you set your lighting up do you just leave all the settlings on 100%? or do you change the spectrum for the different coloured bulbs? as your plants always look amazing and would give a a good starting point to look at for mine.
Hi! I have a question. Just like your mail carrier (I'm also one), I got addicted thanks to you. I'm currently gathering stuff to fill my 600 liter tank. I was wondering why you put in sand and gravel first and put the aquatic soil on top to cover it again with sand and gravel. I was thinking to put my soil in first and then cap it with gravel and then put my decorative sand on top.
Beautifully done MD! You brought your vision to life. I love all of the fish since they were different and that female Betta is stunning!
Hi
Could you please let us know the full Latin name of your amazing red-root floaters? And where do you buy them from please? I can't find any looking this bright red colour anywhere.
Can't blame the postie, it does look like a shop! lol
I love that bucephalandra. I'm a newbie so I hope it is easy to grow, not too expensive and I can get some!
Research to do when the video has ended.
Got my very first betta fish yesterday. He's a beautiful crowntail blue male with pinkish, purplish highlights. I put him in my nano tank. Thank you for making me feel like I can do this. I've been watching aquascape videos for 3 to 4 years, but felt like it was too technical for me.
Congratulation on getting your first betta fish, he sounds beautiful. I got my first one too a few days ago. I named him NooNoo (from Teletubbies) because he swims around like crazy sucking up all the mosquito larva I've been putting in for him.
@@Jen.K What a cute name. I haven't figured out a good name for this boy yet. I'm in Georgia, so soon, I'll put a bucket of water outside and have unlimited mosquito larvae.
@@sancraft1 I visited Georgia a while back, when I was travelling, beautiful state. I'm in Australia, we are heading into winter, so NooNoo will have to be happy with dry foods soon. He wasn't interested in dead frozen food that sinks.
@@Jen.K My Words with Friends buddy is from Australia. 😀
@@sancraft1 😀
Lol right before he said she was trying to fight herself, I said out loud, “is she trying to kick her own ass?”. 😂 Bless her
My husband always loved his betta’s he caught them in the drainage ditch’s along the roadsides where he lived in Thailand back then they called them siamese fighting fish.
Question: If you fill your tank with maybe 1/3 full of scape/sand/plants etc, do you still measure any chemicals eg tap water conditioner etc for the original size tank or less due to all the stuff in there? It could be interesting to see just how much water is displaced from start to finish of one of your builds. Thanks for all your work, love it!
That is absolutely beautiful, and it was relaxing watching you put it together. I'm looking for inspiration for a new tank I just got for my kitchen. This would work perfectly, unfortunately, I don't have access to a lot of red plants. I can't even find red root floaters here where I live, we have extremely restrictive import laws, so it's difficult sometimes. I might have to improvise with what I can get, and use some red silk ones to fill it out. Thanks for the upload and ideas.
Absolutely love your channel. It’s my go to channel for planted aquariums. We are in the process of selling our home and hopefully moving soon, as soon as we get our new place I will be doing a 4f planted aquarium.
I loved the previous studios...u know y everything was good but the one thing I miss is stuff laying all over the place that's part of enjoyment for me ...this everything to neet for me but u always do the best job as usual...stuff laying all over the place is part of learning and things but great job keep it up
Yess thank you another video! Been sick with covid and this is such a nice distraction!
how many litters does that aquarium have?
really liked this escape and always enjoy your videos
That betta is beautiful! Another great tank build MD, I came across your channel in the last few weeks and can't get enough! Inspiring me to build myself a tank again, been a while since my last fish
Just and seen you and fish shop mats tank at my local maidenheads wimborne looks brill definitely going threw a diaton stage bit cloudy but looks amazing love the latest too love it!!
The fish in this tank look perfect together they all compliment each other sooo well it's beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
When MD's temporary storage tanks look better than your beloved aquarium, you spend hours caring for
So beautiful! The fish are a perfect match for the plants.
I’ve never been one for watching the same influences content but I can’t help but click on your videos evry single time you upload, keep up the good work bud 👍💪
Only 12 tetras I thought, we're used to adding huge numbers!!! However, this tank suits the smaller group and just looks so stunning.
(I still might be tempted by a few more though - what do you reckon MD?!)
Awesome build as always thanks for sharing
I really like this build, the deep colors of the plants are lovely and it's nice they're not too tall so that the hardscape is still visible 😂
Aren’t you afraid the fish will jump out of the aquariums you have ?
It'd be cool to see underwater shots again, the peninsula especially. The reds are popping.
Assuming your studio is at around 25 degrees, how do you wear a hoodie in there bro!
Love what you did with the red. Great choice in fish as well. Well done mate.
I love your videos so much and because of you only I also started Aquascaping and now I have something to do which makes me happy and make me forget about my problems......
When the postman hands you mail, hand him plant trimmings haha
Beautiful love these red stem plants great job MD 👏
I love the color balance of this tank. Great job, as usual.
Love the experimenting with different music my man!
Another beautiful build! So inspiring! 😍❤
can you start putting plant list in the bio grandpa get wit the times
Can you cap aquasoil? Why would/ wouldn't you?
Yay another red plant tank filled. These are my favorite you nail it every time the plant selection you have is to die for.
You could always get a spin outflow lily pipe for fish like betta. They look just as cool as well.
Spin pipes are amazing! Got one in my killie tank and will use one when I rescale my Betta tank as well 😊
A black background would make this tank insane. Looks amazing!
You’ve been non stop with the uploads MD its been amazing! 🤓
Those tetras are heckin chonky, love this scape. Thanks for all the hard work! Very much looking forward to the whole studio being complete.
@MD So have you totally stopped putting your soil in the mesh bags? I haven’t seen you do it in quite a while. I’m just wondering what made you change it up.
I heard MD say on a recent video that it's purely him being too lazy to take the extra step 😆
Amazing studio, I love it. Regards all the way from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
i LOVE your red tanks. they're by far my favourite every time.
That Betta is gorgeous, she’s definitely different for a female…love the tank… and the colour tone ❤
You should give the mailman a tour anyways
That is one of the most beautiful female bettas I’ve ever seen. Perfect fit ❤
wow really great looking. Added some scarlet temple plants recently and the purple/redish tone they added is so fun.
You continue to inspire me. I have learned so much and my tanks and plants have greatly benefitted. Thank you.
Matt wanted to say "velvet black". That is the "effect" sought... Velvet red (on platy? Xiphophorus?), velvet black.
BTW, I absolutely love the Albino Buenos Aires Tetras!
Loved the video, and the scape. Phenomenal work! Big respect from Red Deer Canada 🇨🇦
“Not a sponsored video”… whole channel sponsored by API 🤔
🤣 1 video per month :)
I've watched your channel since you've had the tiny little building in your backyard. You have come so far. Amazing 👍
Excited to see a sand slo-mo on your next build for the old school viewers!
Oh yeah!! 🤣 forgot about that
Unpopular opinion:
Full red tanks are actually sick
Красота 👍🏻
Первый раз вижу плавающие растения с красными корнями ...🤔
Absolutely beautiful!! 😍 A stunning choice of plants and fish. Just Awesome.😁😍👍
The tank is stunning, and with time I'm sure it will look even better. Thank u MD for this channel.
Love your videos-they all inspire me. I’d love to see the plant names in the descriptions of your videos as it would make it easier to shop! ❤
Great tank!
The final soudtrack for the video, a bit weird though.
Wow man, i thought it would be just a one more normal really good tank, but that end long shot proved me wrong. Just the video and the music, was so relaxing and almost brought me to tears. Amazing
What are those floating plants at 0:49?
As per normal beautiful your eye for scaping is second to none. Look forward to your next tank project 👍
This is one of my favorite set ups you have done! So different thank what u usually do and such a standout from the rest!!!!
Looks amazing! Loving the new studio. Platinum angelfish would have looked cool in this tank, also. Great job!
Wow this build is amazing the scape the colour the fish choice all just wow ❤ new studio is really bringing out your top work smashed it MD
Absolutely stunning aquarium! I really like those neons with the beta and corries.
More red forests I believe it's my favorite type of setup
Love it! I'm thinking you could use another half-dozen more of those Gold Neons, however. Those are very cool! I'd give just about anything to have a fish shop comparable to your Maidenhead Aquatics close to home. Keep 'em coming @MDFishTanks!
Hey MD, whats your temperature averagely ?
i think tetra is not good with betta
Brilliant. Matt nailed it with the choice of fish.
