- A true bucket list fish has been added to the Gnarly wood aquascape. I have looked at these fish in books and online for years and I finally got the chance to own what I hope will turn into a breeding pair one day.
Also the new @OASEUK Biomaster 2 has performed fantastically on what is a heavily leaf litter laden aquarium. It had its work cut out with this aquarium but it has been brilliant.

What fish do you think would suit this tank?
A nice shoal of cardinal tetra?
@@FishShopMatt Cardinals were my immediate thought to go with the history with MD. 😄
@@FishShopMatt but headstanders for uniqueness would be my final answer.
Hyphessobrycon amapaensis!!
Gastrodermus guapore
No flamingo cup 😮 I was out shopping and saw some which I bought. I had to convince my partner they were essential for fish keepers 😂
That's amazing! I may need to get some spares hahaha
😅😅😅😅
@@FishShopMattI was thinking of finding you a small white elephant cup and sending it to you!
I've kept fish for quite a while and I learn something new from every one of your videos. Thanks Matt!
That's amazing to hear, thank you! No one in this hobby will know everything, we are always constantly learning from one another.
@FishShopMatt You know A LOT! 😀
Beautiful fish... perfect for dark water tank, would love this set up its amazing ❤
You are super lucky to get them. Its very very rare and expensive where I live. Hopefully they breed for you Matt🎉.
Yeah I'm very excited to have them, fingers crossed they pair up.
The cut to the foams on your fingers gave me a good chuckle. Great video, as usual!
I had to look it up. PPI stands for "pores per inch" and is a measurement of the number of cells in a piece of foam.
Interesting! That makes sense though!
Whooo new fishiesss 🎉
Wooo 🐟🎉
Wonderful aquarium and fish , the filter is great.
Thanks! Agreed, the filter is brilliant
Oh one of my favorite species! On my bucketlist too
Yeah I'm so happy to finally have them.
I love using the cheap airline tubing, not only for feeding rings but I will also use a three arm connector to add a suction cup to corral my floating plants and keep them exactly where I want them.
Nice idea on the suction cup!!!
I have also noticed the noise Biomasters can make. From my experiemtation, it seems that the little feet that go underneath need to be on a hard surface. If you put the filter on foam or directly on carpet you will get lots of noise. You can get a ceramic tile to go underneath if you need to make a hard surface. This reduced the noise to the point I could sleep in the same room with no issue. I have also noticed that my cheap Eheim stand seems to amplify the sound, and Matt doesn't have this, so the quality of the stand might be important.
Love the new fish. Oh an Matt it's all your fault - I how own a flamingo cup!
Hahaha you're amongst a few people who now own the flamingo cups!
@@FishShopMatt A small but elite group who knew what to look for on Amazon lol. I thought it's be perfect for working with my tiny Nano tanks
So cool
Thank you!
What a coincidence I just rigged up a "floating plant holder", for lack of a better term. I used gel super glue, some suction cups and airline tubing. Seems to be working well so far. Tank is looking nice keep up the good work!
That's a great idea! Thank you!
Bolbitis has become a favorite of mine!
Totally agree with you!
Un grand merci pour le partage!
Looks great
Thanks! 💜
Do you know if the new filter «head» fits with the rest of the stuff from the old biomasters? I would love that air trapping feature
I think they have redesigned some of the sizing on internal things so I would be dubious of it fitting.
That being said 90% of the cost of a new filter will be the motor head so if you're looking at replacing that it's probably worth just getting a whole new one to be honest.
@ never mind looks like oase is selling a new head plate to retrofit original biomasters😄
Honey! Fish god Matt just dropped another viddy!
Hahaha I appreciate that!
I got a (breeding pair) of ivanacara adoketa this week from fishkeeper. They are fantastic fish! Put them in a black water set up and dropping the ph in the hopes they start breeding, there showing the right colours so 🤞
So, how do you tell how to propagate a plant? Like, which ones are stems and can be cut+replanted, which ones do you split the roots on etc.
There he is 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Hahaha got distracted today
I know the feeling 🤷had a plant delivery yesterday so thought I’d plant and distribute them around my tanks today, then Mark up loaded his so found myself watching both of you in the background all day lol 😂 while doing my fish tanks, just sorting out some brine shrimp 🦐 for my apistos..the more tanks the more I’m kept on my feet.oh looking 👀 forward to seeing your garage build 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Fluval have had clear plastic spray bars for years
Clear spray bars yes but not the elbows over the top. These elbows will catch less muck and provide way less friction than the ribbed piping that fluval uses.
Overall, I’m happy with my Biomaster, but I have a fairly persistent sound like a piece of debris is rattling in the impeller, I’ve tried cleaning everything and it still comes and goes. I started a dialogue with Oase, but haven’t had the time to close the loop on it. I really like having the prefilter and internal heater 👍🏻
Ooooo that's strange, I'm sure Oase will be able to help you figure it out.
I think 🤔 you had something very similar at the wellington store ???? Some time ago I wanted them myself 👌🏻👌🏻
Yeah they do regularly have them in stock.
Definitely red phantom
Yeah I'm thinking they would look good.
Ive never seen zebra acara before. The color change is so cool. Good pick and i see why you didnt pass them up. You ever going to tell what they cost you?
Serpae tetra could work very well
Just like black phantom but in red 😂❤
Oooo I like serpaes!
@FishShopMatt then just add it 😅
Great video Matt. Do you think the finer per filter foams affect the flow rate on the bio master?
So how much did the new fish cost? They are quite beautiful and interesting.
So they currently range from around £40 to £75 each depending on size and quality.
Can't believe the flamingo is MIA! 🤦♂️
Do you think you could mix and match those pre filters or there would be no point?
😜✌️💜
blackwater ❤
Agreed!
What happens in tbe event if a power failure?
I was convinced it would be some sort of rare L pleco.
Soon,.got my eyes on some cool plecs for the garage.
...or, you could just put a pre-filter sponge over the inlet of a far cheaper filter for a couple of quid? 😂
I like this filter. I think Oase are moving the game onwards, but I don't agree with anything you said about media (surprise), plastic media is only worthwhile when it's in constant movement. Plastic is a terrible home for bacteria otherwise. The 'clogging' you point out is food and more surface for the bacteria. A good quality Sintered Glass media is superior to all other media types, including ceramic.
Pretty fish though.
I've just removed my Oase filter because of the noise it produces. I'll miss the prefilter, but the original design had so many troubles that I lost the confidence in this brand. I hope the new design has fixed every problem the first version had. Regards
That's a shame to hear! This new one is silent so I guess any issues have been sorted. That being said my old one is still running now and is as quiet as ever so it's something I've never suffered with personally.
Shouldn't bio media be at top so that sponges filter out muck as it filters from bottom to top
Not the same without the flamingo😅
I totally agree! And I still haven't found it!
If you can't find it, it was a "joie flamingo egg cup and spoon set" 🦩
Sundadanio axelrodi species profile pls? :)
Oooo I want to buy some of these when I can find a nice group.
🐡🐠🐟(for the algaerithm)
It's appreciated 👍
👀 I see new video - I click
I see new comment - I reply! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
Had an Oase filter about a year and a half ago. I wasn't really impressed. It felt underpowered and I was taking it apart 3 times now often than anything else I was running at the time.
Oh that's interesting I haven't felt that they are underpowered but they do catch way more muck in the pre filter and need cleaning out a little more.
But ultimately I would rather get that waste out of my tank than let it sit in the filter unseen.
Flamingo cup r.i.p.😢
It will turn up, the garage build is meaning stuff just disappears currently hahaha
Sponges should be on the bottom of the filter
Check pondguru ,he is the master 😂
So this is one of the things I'm testing, plastic media with a high flow rate doesn't block up anywhere near as much as ceramic media.
I will do a video on it at some point, but I'm currently running different media in different positions to see how they work.
So...this is an add for a filter?
I tried to buy one ( flamingo cup )so I would be able to start stockpiling my stuff
But my wife took it away since that's her favorite animal
And refuses to give it back
No flamingo.....shock , horror!
Anything as long as it has color and swims from the top to midsection. There's no activity in that half of the tank. So it looks a little blank. Sorry.
No flamingo cup? That’s it, I’m unsubscribing! 🤣🤣
Hahaha I'm sorry it will turn up for sure. I think my builder might have been drinking his tea out of it.
