That's always how I've seen the exercise too. Like anytime I see a drumline play it, it's more of a flex than a lot of notes all the 💪🏾 just how I see it though
It definitely is, though really it’s just shifting which partial of your multi pattern is lining up with the downbeat. Once you just figure out what you’re lining up with and keep your hands going, it’s not super tough. Of course, his sound quality and calm is a testament to how there is more to it than *just* the timing
Zach, man, you've been doing this activity forever. You were already killin it even in the chino days, and you've only gotten better and better. These kinda chops and the consistency of everything you play would give even brandon olander a run for his money! Never stop crushin it, and i wish you a happy age out season even if it's not exactly what you expected. 😂
I marched on a hella good college line, 2 years with a WGI corps, and I have tried to keep my chops over the years since I've been out. I thought I was pretty good but nothing great; this just humbled me so hard. Crazy good stuff
Your flams are some of the cleanest I've heard. There is the occasional pop, but overall, they are incredibly clean. Keep it up. I hope you got in this year!
This is an EXCELLENT video!! And furthermore, I could tell that you worked very very hard to perfect what you're playing. And you got great focus and consistency. And I think that's what drum corps are looking for. You definitely got what it takes!
your tap quality is so nice, well everything is great lol, but the consistency of your tap really stood out to me as that is what im working on right now on my high school drumline. Great job!
Omg I have this save exact sweater but without the blue coats heat transfer. Very comfortable plus it’s got thumb holes. Awesome audition pieces tho I wonder what it’s like to be this good.
Great hands, good posture, awesome control and consistency. Only criticism I can think of is I hear a slight pitch difference between left and right, but that may have several causes beyond your control (positioning of the camera, matching sticks?, the mere fact that you play traditional grip on a level head?) And when you do the accent doubles, your volume goes up a little in the drags. But only every now and then. And hey, I never even auditioned, so I should shut up anyway. And your eye for detail in the way you present this video speaks for your dedication as well. They'd be crazy to pass you by. Hopefully, this C crap is over soon and we'll get to see some marching action this summer. Good luck, and cheers from the Netherlands!
Appreciate the comment very much. I do remember taping the stick that morning and then playing a couple things only to notice that one of them felt a bit "broken/hollow", so I can say that I agree 100% about the sound! However, just like the rest of the video, I should have been able to MAKE it sound balanced no matter what haha, as that is also just a skill to master 😉
Question. I'm not a huge RUclipsr but I have a pretty big audience. I mainly write short series docs on rock bands but lately I've been adding drum covers as I've been a lifelong drummer. I wanted to play drums in band but my Stepfather made me play sports instead so I am completely self taught and have no formal training. I can do fast drum rolls if I accent the R but can not if I don't accent. Also, I've been practicing double strokes for years and they're still not fast enough. Is there any advice you can give to help me with this? Ive put serious time and energy into practicing double strokes so I'm starting to think it must be my technique?
Great video! I really enjoyed the melodic metronome pattern you used in Moeller Modulations. What app or metronome are you using? Would love to try it out for my self and my students.
If you search "Tempo - Metronome with Setlist", that should be the one! It was maybe $2, but I love the different sounds and the simple way it works : )
is it odd that i play guitar along to this?
WHOA

Oh Yes. BTW, just for the record... All shot within 2 hours... This man showed up and nailed it.
Now do it off the left
exactly lol
The most consistent playing I have ever seen
Been staring at his stick heights and drooling...
All I know is that Bluecoats 2021 is gonna have a killer snare line with these auditions. Killer work dude
It's crazy to think he's had almost a decade of drumming under his belt
multi beat honestly sounds like as much of a brain workout as it is a chops workout.

Gotta be the first 4K audition tape w/ RUclips chapters and everything! Nice job dude.

The 5lets in Double D are by far my favorite (semi) new edit to the packet... especially when played at this level
How can someone possibly dislike this? I'm a kit player who is not really into marching stuff in general, but this is off the hook. So clean!
You should audition for whatever NFL drumline that BYU Zach Wilson gets drafted by lol
Underrated comment
Bruh 💀
This is a true example of “practice makes perfect.”
Camera quality compliments the sound quality. This is awesome.
The moeller modulations hurt my head.

Double D is my absolute favorite section.
The crescendo section at the end of the triplet section was very impressive!!
People don’t understand how difficult the Queso exercise is. It’s a short one, but is a beast! Incredible playing man. Enjoy the tour!
ikr. playing it right and with the right heights, is a LOT harder than expected.
Some of the best snare drumming I have ever seen/heard. Well done!
It would be so awesome of he kept putting out audition videos every year for people to reference. Even if he is ageing out.
Not a bad idea...👀
Former Carolina Crown snare here... your sound quality is awesome!
This wouldn't be David from the Clemson, SC area would it?
@@fuzzydunlop0507 ...maybe... 😬

That first bar of 8 in the crazy 8's exercise was easily best I've ever heard it played xD
Going to go down as one of the cleanest video auditions ever recorded, great job!
Yo Zach, I put this on before bed and started to knod off listening too it and had to wake up to post this. 💯👏🏾👏🏾
Unbelievably clean Zach. I’ve been playing since before you were born and you’re playing at a level I have yet to attain. Terrific work!
I love the sound of that snare!
Excellent quality, control, form and articulation at all playing levels. Wow!
Love Zach, seeing his licks and playing on Instagram inspire me to get better each day 🔥

... and in the NFL lol XD
Congrats! You're in.
Here I am at 4:36 in the morning just checking my phone really quickly and well... this seems about right.
Outstanding young man, epitome of control and endless chops! Extremely tight is an understatement!
I literally can feel every accent... holy crap man!

Gonna miss you zach happy ageout
This was great to watch and keep my attention! Nice playing, sound, camera angle and distance, setting, and progression of exercises.
That looks like a lovely spot to play.
Exactly why I chose it. Awesome outside acoustics!
My grandpa woke up screaming while i was watching this. He was having Nam flashbacks
Damn dude!!! Go BLOOOOOO!!! Can't wait to see ya!!!
Here comes the face mask tans this summer
Man if that's what it takes to get DCI back, I'm cool with it.
Legend has it he beat Steph Curry in a 3 point competition on that very court after murdering his audition
underrated
Bro, your technique is immaculate! Hell yeah! Nice hands!
Those moeller modulations required a whole different facial expression. good luck man!
the quality is insane
Super job great playing, super timing and super clean.
Really just a very nice job, Zach.
Zach you should start a snare asmr channel with that sound quality 😳
Clean machine on this body of work. Well done Sir.
