    Summary:
    Q1: Do you need protein supplements?
    And: You need protein supplements if you are not able to meet your daily requirements ( these daily requirements may vary upon your activity level ranging from 0.8g/kg body weight for sedantry person to 2.2g/kg body weight for body builders)
    Q2: Does protein supplement affect your kidneys
    Ans: They may get damaged if you are taking excess protein (for more than 3-4 months) than your daily requirements. Also, you can get your routine KFT done and look for urea and creatinine levels in it.
    Q3: Best time to take protein
    Ans: Post workout (also divide it in 20grams of bolus three times post workout at intervals of 1.5 hrs)
    Q4: can protein powder replace whole foods?
    Ans: No, if you are dietary disciplined and track what you are eating and how much protein is in your food and can meet your daily requirements, you can achieve your protein goal with your food. Also protein powders are not whole food as they contain less fibres which is not good for your gut health. So use them to supplement your food and not to replace it.
    Q5: Cheap vs expensive proteins
    Ans: Proteins are expensive and adding flavour make them further expensive and adds chemical to your protein. It's better to take raw protein and add banana/chiku/coconut water and drink it. That way it'll be naturally flavoured and you will get added benefits of your additives.

    Good morning sir, First, thank you for all the information regarding the healthy diet and healthy lifestyle.
    Well, I am a UPSC aspirant, And like me, there are millions of aspirants who have a sedentary lifestyle due to long hours studies, my request is that pls make a video for us-
    1. Diet we should follow so that we can maximize our efficiency
    2. The exam happens to be in June (extreme heat) to tackle the heat and exhaustion and increase efficiency during exam time.
    It's very important for us, so that we can utilize our energy and study more efficiently and most importantly not get ill.

    I was looking at which protein powder to buy and then came across this video. Fabulous content genuinely delivered. I'm very happy to see this . I would definitely consult a nutritionist rather than listen to gym instructor or some youtube video. Though I would still appreciate it if you could do a video on what to look for while buying a protein powder.

    I have always been taking organic unflavoured grassfed Whey protein isolate. Usually mix it with milk and drink post workout. Never had any issues till now.

      I have paneer, nuts, curd, soya chunks, eggs or chicken after work out ( any combination of 2-3 items from above) Never had any issues till now. And it help me build muscles too. Infact ...I haven't spent ANY money on ANY powder or item that comes out of a box (when it comes to protein) till date.

    Dr Ryan, This question is specific to my teenage 17yr old son...
    1. Is it ok to take protein if you don't exercise even one bit and is super sedentary owing to continuous studies ?
    2. Also how safe is it to give protein powders to this age group ?
    3. Does taking protein cause elevation of CPK (Creatine phosphokinase) levels in blood ?

      If he's getting about 50-60 grams of protein daily from diet then there's no need for protein supplement as he's mostly sedentary. What he needs to do at this age is go out and play instead of studying 24*7

    Ryan what about the additional things we don’t need which we are getting in food? What about the pesticides and chemicals we are gonna have once we increase our diet? And the most important part, in today’s hectic schedule how are u going to cook all these stuff? What diet u r prescribing may be suitable for your high end clients, but for middle class health enthusiasts, it’s quite difficult to follow such a strict schedule every day.
    While I go with what u said about other whey protein, but u must really go with Nutrilite cz they are the only company which I know to have harvest , process and manufacture their own supplements. They have control from seed to supplement with least contamination and best quality. I have been using All Plant Protein past 15 years and with god’s grace I have Been in a great health. Thanku for sharing your knowledge

    Sir thank you for this informational video. I go to the gym daily and my training style is for building mass/body building. Creatine is a very popular supplement. My questions is, if a person is prone to male pattern baldness, does creatine accelerate the hair loss as there are studies that say creatine does increase DHT

      There is only one study done on creatine which shows creatine to cause hair loss , 15900 study shows that it doesn't , also the study shows the dht increase was serum dht and not local dht , and for hair loss local dht is responsible , also dht is increased when we go to gym would you stop doing excersice ? so yeah its just myth

    I can tell 2g/kg is way higher for consumption, if u are taking 2 scoops per day no need to worry at all, amount of food need to make it excess protein is too large .

    I have a sedentary lifestyle due to my job but spending at least 3-5 days in gym with excellent weight training. I use whey protein powder on the days I hit the gym. Now my Uric acid levels have gone up a bit than normal. Is it safe to consume whey protein powder or even natural protein sources? @Ryan

      Just take unflavoured one buddy, I personally take it just after my morning workout and take the rest of my protein from meat and eggs. So maybe get whole food protein on your rest days

      Go natural, can't achieve that , meet a good sports nutritionist, get the diet plan boosted, find a the best suited to your biochemistry...the protein powder, organic, no sweeteners and get dosage and timing...that's how it should be done. If you are self deciding and not an elite high intensity athlete diet should be the source of protein

    Can you pls let us know fingers of sucralose in protein powders if any? Sucralose gives me bad stomach pains as I have IBS. As sucralose kills the gut microbiome. But does it cause cancer?

    100g soya chunks a day?? Sir you do realise how much weight they take up after getting boiled? It is nearly impossible to eat 100g soya chunks a day in even 2 meals combined in a day😭😭😭

      Unlikely. There was a meta analysis on kidney function based on protein intake. It is called 'Changes in Kidney Function Do Not Differ between Healthy Adults Consuming Higher- Compared with Lower- or Normal-Protein Diets: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis'

    Hi Ryan. When you say 20 GM of Protein in 100 GM of Chickpeas, is it cooked Chickpeas or uncooked Chickpeas which have 20gm P/100 gm weight. This is a common confusion in many people and so the question

      I think he means 100gm of cooked chickpea because we obviously will not eat uncooked.
      And I have a doubt, rayan mentioned 120gm of soya chunks will give 20 gm of protein?
