thank you for sharing your experience with your layoff and acquiring a new job. It's always hard losing a job but losing and getting something else can be a huge blessing. Many times when we lose things we end up with something better than what we lost, I am a witness of that. God is good all the time. We should never allow setbacks to derail our progress. When things are meant to happen they will.
Thank you for constantly sharing your story including the challenging aspects. People need to understand that we grow in adversity when we keep the right mindset. I was laid off 3 times as a Junior C++ Developer. Now I have 3+ years of experience and have no idea how to get an interview at least. Thanks God, I have a job right now, but I have to find a new one with a visa sponsorship anywhere in Europe in order to stay there and do not return back to Ukraine (currently I'm employed remotely in Ukraine, but located in Europe).
Honestly, I'm losing the f*cking hope. Have no idea what I need to write in my resume and LinkedIn in order to get an interview. I rewrote my resume 10+ times and got only one interview 5 months ago. Maybe one day I just become an Uber driver...

Just my opinion, I believe 2025 is going to be a rollercoaster ride without the seatbelts. College students majoring in STEM, are in for a rude awakening. My cousin recently graduate with a B.E (Bachelors Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering and he's having a hard time finding work in his field. Mind you, this guy did four internships (3 months each, non-paid) He went on to get his CompTIA A+ cert. Luckily, he found a full time entry level help desk position at his local university, paying $15 an hour. I'll say this, nobody and I mean NOBODY is safe. I don't care if you have a BS or master's in STEM. STEM degrees are becoming oversaturated and worthless. Pretty scary times we're living in. Kevin, I wish you my blessings.

Even accounting majors are struggling. I was studying IT originally but switched to accounting, I didn’t left long with IT because I am really bad at programming and just could stick with it as it frustrated me. So I switched to accounting and couldn’t find any entry level jobs in my MCOL area. Accounting is facing massive outsourcing in some areas do entry level work is hard to get into depending where you live. Local employers can’t you to have a 4 year degree with several years of experience to do an AP/AR job lol. I’m switching out of that and going back into healthcare which I use to do lol. My recommendation would be not to invest in an education unless it’s free and you already have a job in a field.

Problem is they are all younger than I am. Depending on how the end of the year goes though we might not have enough money to keep everyone so I might not even have a choice. Do both. I highly recommend doing the trade qualification first, I became a qualified Electrician and then immediately left that career to chase my IT dreams, got accepted into federal govt helpdesk traineeship, became permanent govt employee halfway through traineeship. I now have a trade as a fallback, electricians pay big bucks if you are willing to do the dirty work, however my heart is in IT. Currently doing BAU helpdesk, training a new trainee and skilling up learning how to sysadmin/design screen sets for our ITSM tool.
If you have a passion for computers dont worry about the layoff noise. Get your trade and put yourself out there once you're ready for IT. The fact you complete a trade qualification shows a lot from a work ethic perspective and the thick skin developed in that industry is perfect for dealing with troublesome clients over the phone.
