Its amazing how fast he can study the tape, analyze it then record and upload the video. While all these "Twitter Docs" are diagnosing these injuries, I just come to Dr. Sutterer to hear what the professional has to say. I hate it when an athlete gets hurt, but I love learning from the Doc.

Burrow wore a sleeve on his elbow last year during training camp ! I kept mentioning it last year just to get told it was nothing ! The ring finger is a major cause of grip pain ! Watch your forearm when wiggling the ring finger only compared to the other fingers ! Bicep exercises can become painful due to the ring finger grip strength ! Overuse of the ring finger grip can become a chronic problem !

As always thanks for the concise explanation. The only thing that may add some context to the mystery is earlier in the game Jadeveon Clowney takled Burrow and Burrow fell hard on his hand. Clowney was draped over his back and landed right on Burrow's hand. I wonder if that made it worse or aggravated something.

You're taking vast amounts of information and knowledge, boiling it down to a point that is complex enough to fully give context to the scope of potential injuries but simplifing it enough where most anybody could understand and comprehend. And doing all that without being condescending or with a Matter of Fact tone.

  • @pauls7063
    @pauls7063 9 месяцев назад +2

my guess would be a TFCC injury, which Doc mentions, not a super common injury, often from accidently grounding (or hitting a root) a club golfing. Burrow seems to grab at the medial wrist/ hand junction during the follow through. It doesn't really hurt until one grips with wrist motion or strains or exerts force through that medial/ ulnar part of the wrist then its sudden excruciating/ knee buckling pain. If it's a tear of the disc of the TFCC - no bueno, months, not weeks, to heal. He could feasibly play through it but would be severely hampering, especially to an nfl QB's throwing hand.

I work in Physical Therapy and worked for years with a certified hand therapist, co-treating many patient's because of my interest in the subject matter. You're right that with the limited available information, I'm finding it hard to confidently determine what the actual injury here is. My suspicion is similar, that he may be having some kind of ulnar nerve irritation. I have seen cases of dystonia where irritation of the superior fibers can cause a localized dsytonia in palmaris brevis as well as abductor digiti minimi. I wish I could more clearly see his hypothenar eminence. In cases I've seen with notable dystonia/spasm, there is almost always dimpling along the medial aspect of the hypothenar eminence between the flexor and abductor near where palmaris brevis begins blending into the skin. Why it is happening is harder to say. A TFCC disruption or some other cause of acute inflammation could aggravate a potential chronic overuse injury. Or maybe something that happened in another game this season. Who knows, anyways, love the channel and content! This scratches my itch lol.

Burrow broke the pinkie on his throwing hand mid game two years ago. He played through it and the organization never acknowledged it. He took the Bengals to the Super Bowl throwing with that grip and he's done it ever since.

Just went to the hand specialist today for my "trigger finger" left pinkie. Learned quite a bit about tendons and pulleys, and received a big ole cortisone shot. Hope it works. As a pianist, this is something new and I am wondering if my left-hand boogie-woogie chops are to blame, since that requires an intense repetitive motion with the pinkie. The doctor said possibly, and that seems a good bet, because boogie woogie is a more recent addition to my playing (last 5 years), and a lot of practice is required to maintain a steady fast rhythm. Good luck to Burrow. He may certainly be dealing with something more challenging.

I could be way off here. But if you can, go back and take a look at the 10min mark in the first quarter 1st and 10…. Joe runs and it looks like right after he gets tackled to the ground he kinda works that hand. I’m wondering if that where he injured it, after that I believe it was a lot of short passes.

Man when i saw this my first thought was it was something to do with a nerve. Grip issues, random shooting pain and instability. I noticed that pinky as well, looks like it's been broken before or something. This one hits me hard. Not only because I love Burrow and want to see this team do well but also Burrow is the main QB on my fantasy team and I'm currently in line to win $5k if I can hold position. I was kinda sick to my stomach when I realized that. I know that sounds selfish but man I am really really poor. I really hope for Joe's sake, the Bengals sake and my sake this is something he can manage through the rest of the season and play well.

At the end of August I was moving a concrete block and something popped in my wrist. There wasn’t a sound, just a feeling of a pop. Since then, I can’t rotate my wrist (rotate as in if I hold my arm out in front of me and try to rotate my hands to make my palm face up or down). I only have pain when my wrist is moving with rotation in this manner.
I’ve had X-rays and an MRI and I’ve been diagnosed with, “Ulnar-sided fissuring of the triangular fibrocartilage without full-thickness tear, mild sprain of the focal and styloid attachments of the TFC without tear or retraction, mild intratendinous increased signal in exterior carpi ulnaris, mild tendinosis without tendon tear or retraction.” Quoted from my MRI results.
My MRI was conducted 2 1/2 months AFTER my injury, but Burrow’s reaction to certain movements and the “pop” he was mentioning reminded me of me of exactly what I’m going through. I’m almost pain free, even when the injury happened, but certain movements are excruciating. Just on Monday I gave a buddy of mine a goofy sort of salute with my hand and that has been the most pain I’ve experienced in my wrist, even more so than the initial “pop.”

Seemed like he had a problem before the game to the wrist so dont think its the elbow. He had a wrist brace when he arrived in Baltimore. My guess is it's a ligament in the wrist that he tried to play thru and it popped. He'll miss the rest of the season because they're done. Guessing surgery to fix it. Doubt he'll be the same.

When I was about 16 yrs old, I was leaned over an open hood in the engine
compartment of a car, trying with all my force to remove a bolt with a wrench.
The wrench slipped off the bolt, and then I hit my elbow nerve on the inside of
the hood opening. Very painful, and I swear to God, my last 2 fingers were "totally"
numb for at least 2-3 weeks. Eventually the feeling came back very slowly. When
I was younger, I always thought nature would heal things on its own ? Well now,
after 50 years, I can still feel that nerve ( ulnar I think) on the inside of my elbow.
It feels like it's sticking out of the cartiledge or whatever holds it in place. Today
I cannot sleep with my arm down on the bed, as I have to elevate it with a pillow,
and if I don't, that slight pressure will cause my arm to go numb. I never had any
other pain except the numbness, and had full motion of my arm. I was too young
and stupid to think of surgery, and also had the fear, it may make it worse ? This
is now something I live with and it's OK if I don't hit the inside of my elbow. I do
wonder today, if I should have had surgery surgery back then, and especially today,
with medical science being so advanced. This is an injury I've lived with a long time.

Just had surgery on my right arm to try and correct Ulnar Nerve Entrapment. My nerve was so damaged that the plastic surgeon called in all of his nurses when he examined me for surgery prep just so they could gawk in amazement about how bad my case was. Pinky and ring finger are completely numb, and hand strength and grip are terrible. Have trouble opening up simple things like food. Was told by the Dr who did the electric nerve testing that it will never be like it was before. I have the same thing on my left arm and hand, but it has very little damage. I am right-handed. When I saw Joe try to throw the FB and it fell out of his hand, immediately thought it was the Ulnar nerve. Sorry, this was so long.
