First of all fun reaction you are very sharp to pick up on the simulation plot points earlier than most for a first time viewing! (or you're just a good actor, either way brava sis) 👏
The Oracle never told him he wasn't the One. It was Neo who said he wasn't the One and she just said she was sorry, and he was looking for something, but she didn't say what she was sorry about. She vaguely told him what he needed to hear to guide him to figuring it out by himself. As she said, he couldn't be told he was the One he had to come to realize that on his own.
It's amazing how many people miss this fact. The Oracle lets Neo complete the thoughts she starts. The fact that Neo doesn't think he is the one means that he isn't. He has to come to that realization later.
I rarely post online, but I must say that I am truly captivated by your reactions. The broad scope of your intellectual grasp and insight astonishes me. Every movie you react to is all the more enriched by you. I can hardly wait for the next one. Great work!
@28:40 -- "THE DUST!!!!" i've seen this movie a zillion times, but this is the first time i noticed that dust. always something new every time ... thanks!"
The best part about the scene with the oracle is when you watch the later movies and. Learn she is a program from the machine world… and made Neo accept cookies 🤣
23:07 "Neo, this is loco." A lot of these characeters use catch phrases, and "loco" is one of a few Spanish words which have entered the English language, and which English speakers use to add flavoring to their speech, so it's not a real stretch. This same character says, "Mikey, I think he likes it," a catch phrase from an old TV ad for 'Life' cereal. Now, if he had said, "Isso é maluco, cara," that would be a different matter! (You're not wrong about the foreign phrase thing in Hollywood movies, of course.)
It's weird, but cute, when someone with an accent says WTF. Oracle: "You're waiting for something." ......"Maybe your next life." explains the kiss at the end. 24:28 wasn't scripted, but they kept it in. Great review.
23:39 Now here, either Agent Smith is demonstrating that _he_ is not aware of invasive species _(highly_ unlikely) or he's making an argument to a general _populace_ that is not aware of the existence of invasive species (which is much _more_ likely).
I've watched a LOT of The Matrix reactions (it was my favorite movie until Guardians of the Galaxy) and I've never seen anybody guess so many plot points. And, you're only the 2nd to recognize that the subway fight scene was an homage to a Western gun fight. 😲
It is interesting how the Oracle tells him: "You're waiting for something...your next life maybe." And Neo takes it as kind of a joke, but it's really how it played out. I really like the second movie, and then the third is a bit of a let down but completes the story.
Originally the machines were using human's brains as computers because we scientifically don't make very good batteries. In fact, a potato is a better battery than a human. But they felt like it was easier to explain
Well they threw in "and a form a fusion" to kinda cover their butts on the physics. Essentially, you're asked to imagine some type of futuristic technology where humans can be used with fusion as an energy source. I do wish they would have stuck w/the original concept, as I think audiences would actually have grasped it, even in 1999.
Interesting, the under-appreciated Joss Whedon series, Dollhouse, has human brains as a neural network computer. That makes sense, because Whedon assumes his audience is intelligent.
11:12 So if Neo takes the blue pill, the fantasy ends, he wakes up in his apartment and continues on, believing whatever he wants to believe. But if he takes the _red_ pill, he _stays_ in wonderland and Morpheus shows him just how deep the rabbit hole goes. What if he takes both? What does that do?
If Neo succeeds in rescuing Morphius then Neo dies because one of them will die. Neo is the one making the sacrifice. That was a hard hitting part of the movie for me.
13:40 In philosophy, there's a concept called solipsism. It's the idea that the only thing one can be _truly, utterly sure_ of is the existence of one's own mind. All of one's experience with the environment comes through one's _senses._ There is no way to experience the environment _without_ them. Of course, this means one can't ever truly eliminate the possibility that other _people_ are nothing more than mere _illusions._ There is no piece of evidence I could present to _you_ that could eliminate the possibility that _I_ am nothing more than a figment of _your_ imagination, because I would have to use your senses to _present_ it to you. That's a concept they're presenting, here.
27:01 "...there's a difference between _knowing_ the path and _walking_ the path." And here, we're getting into _determinism._ In philosophy, this is the school of thought that holds that, if, somehow, one could account for _every_ variable in the _entire_ Universe at _one_ particular moment, one would be able to predict how the _rest_ of time would play out, because everything is a continuous sequence of cause-and-effect. This movie does a _very_ good job, I think, of illustrating just how profound philosophy can be.
15:11 It's not a very large part he's playing in this movie, but this character, Tank, is not present in the sequels, and I find his absence conspicuous. I like this character. It's a small part, but he's a good character. But the actor who played him, Marcus Chong, started doing the _dumbest_ things during contract negotiations for the sequels with the Wachowskis. See, initially, he was offered $250,000 to appear in the two sequels. He claimed he was owed _twice_ that, in addition to bonuses and guarantees that he would be invited to press junkets and premieres. When the Wachowskis rejected his demands, he started making threatening phone calls to them, and they responded by having him arrested. Now when the Wachowskis rejected his initial demands, that torpedoed his prospects for continued work in the _Matrix_ franchise, but when he started making threatening phone calls, that lead to him getting blackballed in Hollywood in _general._ Tank is a genius. Chong was an idiot.
As I understand it, the role of Neo was originally written for Will Smith, but he couldn't take it, because instead, he was cast as Captain James T. West in the movie _Wild Wild West._ Now let me tell you, I think this was probably a call Will Smith regrets. _Wild Wild West_ was a _terrible_ movie that has been largely forgotten, while _The Matrix_ shifted the global _paradigm._
Well, I tell ya, Carol, I don't think there was _ever_ a time when I did not know that Darth Vader was Luke's father. That fact was just revealed when I was too young to have a clear recollection of it, so it's a source of surprise for me, nowadays, all these whippersnappers who start reactor channels, upload their reaction to _Episode V,_ they come to _that_ reveal, and they're actually _surprised_ by it. The first _Star Wars_ movie came to theaters before I was born. The second came out when I was two. The third, when I was five. But _Star Wars_ is a specific _sub-genre_ of science fiction called "space opera." It delves into the more technical aspects of science fiction much _less_ than science fiction in general. Remember, in _A New Hope,_ when Luke complains about the first R2 unit they try to buy having what he calls "a bad motivator?" That's pretty much it, when it comes to _Star Wars_ and technobabble. I think my _main_ introduction to science fiction came when _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ first came on the air, on September 28, 1987. I was nine years old. I have to say, though, my first interest was not the _technical_ aspects. It was the _artistic_ aspects. The _Enterprise_ and all its sets were designed to be especially pleasing to the eye. Additionally, Dr. Crusher, Lt. Yar and Counselor Troi were hot, and as a nine-year-old, I was old enough to notice. 😏
Yes! you should watch the rest because it's one story divided into several movies. You should always watch all parts of the films in order and rate them yourself, without looking at other people's negative ratings :)
I appreciate that you point out that the security guards at the entrance of the building holding Morpheus were not necessarily the enemy. I love this movie but I never liked that these basic security guards just doing their not-quite-a-cop hourly jobs get gunned down mercilessly. The rest of the militant cops, sure, but not those guys. It's maybe a minor flaw overall but I always thought if they have all the guns in the universe at their disposal, couldn't they have used non-lethal ones on those guys? One of the very few sloppy scripting moments in an otherwise tight screenplay.
Carloine, thank you. You are awesome! My words cannot do justice of the enjoyment your reactions bring to me, I mean this most sincerely ! Thank you for answering my question and pointing out who "Zuko" is, I need to find time and watch Avatar series with you. :) You are rapidly becoming one my favourite RUclips reacters! I can't wait to see what you react to next! 👍👍👍 :)
What you should watch - not necessarily as a reaction - is "Welt am Draht" (World on a wire) from 1973. By Rainer Werner Fassbinder. 3h of lots of (philosophical) talk, less action. The Matrix is a remake of this movie, "Welt am Draht" on steroids.
I loved this reaction.. But I cant get past that you knew what was going to happen before it happened way to many times... Your reaction was supurb... But it would have been better if you did not watch the movie first... I will still check out some of your other reactions though.. You where that good...
I think I can answer this. Carol's (and many others) RUclips reaction has additional footage from their rewatch during editing. I have watched Carol's full unedited version and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It contained exactly what you would expect for someone watching a movie for the first time, open mindedness, genuine interest and enthusiasm. :)
Exodus 13:12 That thou shalt set apart unto the Lord all that openeth THE MATRIX, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the Lord's.
This was fun, you're going to make it in the reaction game if you stick with it. You're entertaining and the editing is good. You just don't upload often enough. Okay, I guess that's enough armchair quarterbacking.
You know, that was a really nice thing to say. For some time now, it has stuck in my mind with a sense of good feeling. :) Do you have any suggestions for Carol's future viewing? :)
Nah, I don't think so. She's a little too much choreographed IMO, and I think not truly authentic. Time will tell, this is only my first time watching.
This was probably the best film of 1999. It set new standards in cinematography. The „freeze shots“ in the fighting scenes, where the camera moves around the frozen action in a circle was shot by 36 or so cameras mounted in a circle filming everything simultaneously from all sides and this allowed the cutter to „move around“ in the same frame to all sides. And one recommendation: Don‘t watch the sequels, they are taking the whole matrix concept several steps more to the extreme and thus directly into rediculousness. The only good thing us that next to Carrie-Ann Moss also Monica Belluci was starring in one if the sequels…
By that logic, if someone Caucasian, born and bread in a South American country, featured in this movie and said "loco", he would be appropriating culture I guess. It's truly divisive how people look at race in cinema and reality, considering that a big portion of South Americans are largely non-natives. By te way, the "non-white actor", Marcus Chong, is of African American, Chinese, native American and British descent. Spanish, or "loco", is not in his natural vocabulary at all. As long as the viewer feels some entitlement... go non-whites (I guess)! Pathetic...
So my reaction when seeing the thumbnail was, "Why is Ozzy Osbourne doing a reaction." Those glasses definitely complete the look.
😂😂😂
Well, I mean, why _shouldn't_ Ozzy Osbourne do a reaction? It's not something he's known for, but I'll bet it would be entertaining. 🤷♂
Notice that the actors are doing their own fight sceens (for the most part)
First of all fun reaction you are very sharp to pick up on the simulation plot points earlier than most for a first time viewing!

The Oracle also compares being The One to being in love... and I suspect that was mentioned for more than the obvious reason.
And she DID say he has "the gift." Also, when she says "waiting for another life" was foreshadowing.

It is interesting how the Oracle tells him: "You're waiting for something...your next life maybe." And Neo takes it as kind of a joke, but it's really how it played out.
I really like the second movie, and then the third is a bit of a let down but completes the story.
Yes, you should watch all of the Matrix films and cartoon. :)
Preferably Animatrix before Matrix Reloaded, then Revolution and Resurrections
Animatrix is FAR better than any the sequels. And nearly as mind bending as the original.
Glad you enjoyed the movie. Brought back happy tears 🥹🙌🥹
Loved it! Great reaction! 😍
You caught on quicker than most
Loving your reaction videos, you got yourself another sub!
They would have pulled the plug on Morpheus if Neo had known he was The One. That is why The Oracle had to lie to Neo.
Watch them all, they are all brilliant
Originally the machines were using human's brains as computers because we scientifically don't make very good batteries. In fact, a potato is a better battery than a human. But they felt like it was easier to explain
Yeah, holding up a CPU doesn't hit as many people as holding up a battery.
Actually humans make excellent batteries, but not according to George from Cinebinge? 😉
Well they threw in "and a form a fusion" to kinda cover their butts on the physics.
