It’s cool to see someone ragging the Avante around instead of just building for the shelf (which is fine of course!). Classic RC car, would love one one day (probably to sit on a shelf 😅)
I feel you friend! Sometimes I got lazy and let them be but never the Avante, which I find compelled to clean it thoroughly each run! Thanks for the comments!
Awesome video, thank you so much. The whole process is very common now for my BBX after sandy beach run, so, it was great to see this with Avante, as I am considering this as my next build. Thanks again and wish you have joy with it for many more years
Very, very Nice video! I’ve always likedmodelism. This gives me a good impression of the build and jou and pleasure one can get out of it. Great video!
Great video fella! Awesome production, and an awesome buggy. The Avante is still the most 'sexy' RC buggy of all time. Yeah it may be over engineered and heavy.... but it's such an icon, and has so much nostalgia associated with it for those of us that grew up in the golden era of RC back in the eighties. I have a 2011 re re , and a black special still to be built.... Just can't bring myself to break into those gorgeous blister packs yet! Great to see someone actually running one in the way in which it was intended. Very enjoyable viewing Sir, thanks for sharing! 😊 👍 👍 👍
Glad you liked it! I decided to get one after seeing my friend's Avante in person. He has both versions too! Nothing can quite compete with the unique and awesomeness even up to this day. Glad to hear you have both versions! I need to catch up on that! Thanks for commenting, cheers!
You are brave for putting your Avante through such abuse. Good thing you rebuilt it after that channel crossing. That looked scary from my point of view..
Amazing video !! Really ! The Avante is super nice for sure and also you want to film is awesome ! Curious to see what you can do with the other models like the Lunch Box
It's just classy. Photos/Videos won't do justice. When I first saw it in a friend's garage "wall of RCs", the Avante just stood out. You won't regret it. Thanks for the comment!
Most brands have a small number of products, that serve as "brand defining" forever (like the Nikon F4, the Mercedes SL 300 or the RR Silver Ghost), no matter what came up later. For Tamiya the Avante is in their Top 3 ( aside the Grasshopper and Hilux Pickup predecessor or the original Sand Scorcher). Despite being too over engineered for racing (the front suspension alone it more complex than the whole Grasshopper), the Avante will stay the top nodge design 4WD buggy. Barely plastic, elegant, slim and even after 35 years it looks futuristic. If I ever take mine out of the box and build it, it will get some effect color ... and maybe some light SFX / EL wire, to make it look like a TRON vehicle.
Hey you know what? I've been wanting to build a TRON-themed RC. I thought about doing that on the latest BBX. But then it just didn't feel right as the BBX is retro, as opposed to futuristic. So I've given up the idea. Now that you've mentioned it, I think it's a great idea for Avante! Would you mind if I go ahead and use this idea? If you like, I'll mention your RUclips handle if I ever publish a video for it. Thanks for commenting! Cheers!
@@ezrc7724 No need to mention me - just inform me here, when it's done ;-) How about a rear wing as a lightpipe changing color when accelerating + smoke gun (illuminated by this too) + red+green laser on the outer body? Oh my ... I guess, my mint box is in trouble *g*
nice video....for me its better to leave those plastic gears un greased...it will make it last longer and trap less dirt or making the fine sands sticks...i leave all my tamiya kit gears dry greaseless,,,i only lube the bearings..it last longer and better than previously greased gears.
Awesome video presentation but I too cannot believe you treated this car like you did. Salt water? Sand and mud and water😭😭 man Tamiya needs to be treated with more respect. I'm just about to get mine in 1 day and I don't know if I'm even building it but if I do I will protect it like a baby. Please be gentle, well here in Australia Tamiya RC parts are very difficult to get hold of. I don't know how easy you can get parts in America. I think your from America. Otherwise beautiful work and I really like the brushless replacement you did. Enjoy man👌❤️
I hear you! If it makes it any easier, it was fresh water, no salt 😆. Still, the metal joints got a bit squeaky after thorough cleaning and rebuild. I used WD-40 on the squeaky joints to improve it. The Avante shouldn't have to go through this! It was an experiment and thankfully I am done with it. Yes I'm based in the U.S. Enjoy your new upcoming Avante! I think simply owning it will make one very happy! Thanks for commenting. Cheers!
Great film and pleased to see it's not a "shelf queen" These Tamiya buggies should be run and put through their paces. I have an Avante re release waiting to be built, I've also got the steering Hop up part which is standard in the Black Avante. I was impressed with the brushless upgrade and something I will do w8th mine. Could you possibly give me the make and model of the brushless motor ,ESC and servo you used. I have a Sandscorcher, Rough rider and Fighting buggy all with brushed cans. Going brushless will be a new experience for me so any information would be a great help. Also what battery were you running with brushless motor? Kind regards Barbus
Hi Barbus, Thanks for commenting! The Avante re release is also a beauty, I am happy for you! I used Tekin RX4 ESC + Holmes Hobbies 540s stubby brushless sensored motor + 2s LiPo. The servo is a cheap one from Amazon and it's too big for the undercowl so I wouldn't recommend. The Tekin is an overkill for this, but it sure is a nice and smooth one, completely waterproof. I think Hobbywing makes some good ESC too but I haven't water tested them so I can't vouch for them. Cheers!
It was a car that I really liked because of its State-of-the-art design at the time. But... Durability is too weak I think it would be good to create and apply improved parts that complement durability, especially the knuckle arm. shock absorber stay Also, the gearbox needs to be waterproof and dustproof, and a body undercover is also needed.
The biggest drawback of this car is that the suspension and chassis are very weak against shocks. In particular, the metal knuckle arms look sturdy, but they break often.
I know many people simply buy and put on the shelf. I get it, it is very pleasing to just look at it. I have been re-building mine and cleaning it thoroughly and put on the shelve. But I have been bashing other RCs. When I get tired of looking at it I will run again! Thanks for the comments, cheers!

Thanks for commenting! I used Tekin RX4 ESC + Holmes Hobbies 540s stubby brushless sensored motor + 2s 4000 mAh LiPo. The servo is a generic one from Amazon and it's too big for the undercowl so I wouldn't recommend. The Tekin is an overkill for this, but it sure is a nice and smooth one, completely waterproof. I think Hobbywing makes some good ESC too but I haven't water tested them so I can't vouch for them. Cheers!
this is really how RC cars are meant to be played. thanks so much for making this video, totally brings back childhood imagination, impluses, and joy.
This is possibly the coolest running RC vid I have ever had the pleasure of watching, thank you!
I cannot believe you drove that beautiful thing underwater.. that’s the coolest rc film I’ve seen in a while and I watch many… great stuff
Thanks for your complements, it means a great deal to me!
was my dream buggy as a kid but coulnt afford it.. maybe now is the right time ^^
Like the fact that you do run and enjoy these beauties!!! 👍👍
Thanks for commenting, cheers!
The Avante is probably one of the most beautiful rc buggys from Tamiya, at least in my opinion. Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend!👍
Agree 100%! Thanks for your comment!
Such a beautiful buggy, just love seeing it get used as it should!
Glad you liked it! Cheers!
I love it! You really draw the viewer into the whole process. And Avante is such a beautiful buggy!
It’s cool to see someone ragging the Avante around instead of just building for the shelf (which is fine of course!). Classic RC car, would love one one day (probably to sit on a shelf 😅)
I built the Hotshot II BHM, fun car!
Great buggy ,great video ,great music m8. Loved to watch
The driving footage is great. What puts me off though if the amount of time and effort to clean it up after each ride.
I feel you friend! Sometimes I got lazy and let them be but never the Avante, which I find compelled to clean it thoroughly each run! Thanks for the comments!
After watching this video, I wanted to have Avante👍👍👍👍
It’s a very cool buggy, you will enjoy it! Thanks 🙏🙏🙏

Great vid, thanks, thsts convinced me to pull the trigger on one

I'd like to see a video on the Blockhead cars in the future. The Hot Shot 2 is really growing on me.
I hear you! It's a cool vintage buggy and it needs to be seen. Thanks for commenting!

True ! Gears are usually made of PTFE which is a "self lubricating" material. No grease, no problem 👌

Great build, just bought an egress as it has same chassis. Which pinion did you use for the motor?
D.O.P.E

Thanks for the commenting! These are shot at a typical suburb in the pacific NW.
Hey buddie! can you tell me what tamiya the Nissan "Baja" truck is at the end? looks dope as f... but i have never seen it before

Ahhh the sad reality of RC: 20-30 mins of runtime for 2-3 hours of maintenance 😖
Love your video though 👍
Thanks for commenting. Cheers 👍
Have you ever tried using a bigger pinion?
No I haven’t. But I could try it! Thanks for your suggestion!
I'm guessing the servos, receiver and ESC were waterproof?
Yes they were. The motor is “element proof” but it exceeds my expectations. Thanks for commenting, cheers!
