My favorite drive pedal. I noticed setting trim pot low not only reduces gain also makes tone more warmer and mellow. Very versatile pedal. You can play everything with it from soft blues to modern metal.
Well you absolutely helped fall in love with this pedal. Some many other annoying reviews of guys just shredding with maxed gain...not helpful at all. This is the best review of this pedal. Also love your tone!
Jay Parmar has a handful of videos featuring the BE-OD demonstrating versatility of tone (gain levels) that may be helpful as well. I picked up the tip to drill a hole above the trim pot for easy access from him. Cheers, ruclips.net/video/vHHl13LDnvU/видео.html
I just picked up a used Deluxe 2 channel version of this pedal. I literally laughed out loud at the available gain, even on the low gain channel. I definitely had to open it up and adjust the two gain pots to get it more in my taste territory. Unusually versatile frankly and so far I'm loving it.
I just got mine a few days ago and feel the same way lol I want channel B to be my high gain channel but I may need to trim a bit back on channel A. But overall, I’ve been very impressed! Even the pull offs with the Be OD Deluxe are so easy with the low gain settings!
Dude, thank you for your time. This was the best demo of this pedal I’ve seen on the Internet. Everyone just maxing out the gain but that internal trim pot is the key. Fantastic tones keep it up. Thank you again. My only question is, how does it sound live in a band situation, does it get lost, or can you get it to fill out its space
The trim pot is a variable resistor. The more you turn it the more gain. It makes sense if making a clone, to just connect a pot and put in on the outside of the pedal so you can set the overall type of gain level . I'm going to build a clone myself so I'll try it out.
@@johnnathancordy Interestingly, the internal gain pot does way more than the external pot. I always wished the internal pot was on the top. It would make the pedal way more versatile in the gain range. From stock JCM800 to really hot-rodded.
I bought one of these used awhile back and didn't know about the trim pot feature. I sold it because there was just too much gain for my tastes, even with the gain control set at the lowest setting. Now I want to buy another one and adjust the trim pot!
Killer demo - really shows how versatile the BE-OD can be. Sounds great with the trim pot half way up. Just the right amount of gain range IMHO. Tasty playing too!
A brilliant video that’s answered the one overarching question I’ve had about the BE OD, which was how low gain can it go should I want to stack it with a Klon rather than just obliterate everything with lashings of distortion? Thanks for demonstrating the gain flexibility that this pedal offers Johnnathan and a big thumbs up from me!
@@johnnathancordyI totally agree! And that they haven’t accommodated an external way to alter the baseline gain setting on pedals that have come out after the BE OD eg BE OD Deluxe, Dirty Shirley etc is baffling. Still, they make fantastic Marshall type pedals so, internal trim pot misstep aside, there’s so much to love about the Friedman pedal range. Thanks again for this video and wishing you well too, Johnnarhan😊👊
Me and a friend cranked the Mesa Mark v:25 with it and it does retain that presence which can be quite bright I think. Definitely not a pedal for everyone! Although yeh those low gain Marshall tones I like!
I am having great success with this pedal by turning the trim down as you did but also running a bb preamp before it with the output DOWN. It makes the lead tone just soooo nice and much more dynamic. I wonder where this gain adjustment knob sits in the gain staging as this pedal seems to really like low input signals. Great demo!
Pedal sounds a LOT better with the gain pot turned down... I'd probably like it best with the gain pot turned to it's minimum setting. Sounds like you can still dial in plenty of gain using the gain control on the pedal.
I thought I would like the minimum gain settings but found it lost something, like it blended in too much clean signal. What I found best was having the trim pot about 9 o’clock and running the pedal at 18v which gave it more headroom and sounded way more amp like.
Just to be totally honest not many Tele players buy a distortion pedal. A clean boost or a tube screamer at the most. But this does show this pedal is a beast if it can make a single coil sound like that. Nice demonstration.
@@stiffrichard2816 tell OLA THAT :) He did vid on you tube where he put be od in effects loop, oh it sounds so good in here, he said, Im like yeah, you ll be lucky to get thru one gig with that, it will fry the power section of your tube amp? I tried this pedal at home and it took about 5 mins for me to realise it wasn't for me. Sounds too much like a pedal and not a real amp, unlike the Riverside which has been on my board for a good while now.

Yeh - it seems....Really important?
@@johnnathancordy You can set it inside anyway. If you like max gain.
It's more convenient on the pedal outside.

I asked for that in the one I ordered with a local diy pedal dealer and it's so cool and useful🤟🤟🤟
This pedal is impressive, it sounds so good no matter where you set it

Yeh man it should be on the front of the pedal for sure
Probably the best demo I have seen of this pedal! Just had to buy one after seeing this review :)
That tone about 8:10 is awesome imo. My sweet spot for the internal trim pot is about 25%.

I have no idea why this trimpot is on the inside of the pedal - it's easily the most powerful control on the whole pedal!

Like the low gain settings only - also wonder if the high gain sounds better with a real tube amp.

No I have a Marshall tube amp and its too much I like it with gain pot turned to its lowest much better
Terrific review very insightful thank you
Awesome sound in lower gain.
Informative .. thanks for video
@ 5:10 this is amazing you can have so much voicing just by changing guitar volume when the pot is on the lowest
Thanks for this video

Really well demonstrated 👍🏻💪🏻
Oh man, that tele bridge pickup sound fantastic. Thick and Twangy.. odd but I like it.
Damn you make this thing sound killer. I need it.
so glad i bought one of these. i run it infront of a 20 watt marshall head. yes 20 watt. sounds massive.

Great vid bruh, I have a Dirty Shirley from Friedman. I am curious now have the trim pot work on that pedal.
As I turned down the trim pot, It gave me goosebumps for how beautiful the gain was
Right? Should be on the front of the pedal I thinK!!!
@@johnnathancordy Yes, that will make it perfect
Same! This video saved my sound problem!
Can anybody tell what tuning John is using? thanks for your help

Telecaster or other brands that made telecaster like, are huge guitars for metal.
so defult settings for this gain trim pot is at full or half way? I mean, when I buy it straight from the shop. Great video BTW
I bought a BEOD deluxe 2 months ago and found both pots to be about halfway prior to adjustment. Definitely some room to move both ways.
Half way.
This is great. Should have set the pedals so we could see the settings
this convinced me to get one
What pickups are you using broski?
Brilliant video/demo and playing! That Suhr Tele sounds monstrous. I might have to give one of those a good look.
3:57
Is that a Mark V? 35/25/10 head?
I just got the Be OD Deluxe and plan on getting the Mark V as well. Its gotta be a killer combination!!!
Could I ask what kind of guitar is this?
Arggghhhhh…low gain tone is sooooooooooooo gooooddd!
Would you say this pedal is too heavy for blues
Not with the trim adjustment
Lower the trim, and no.
Nice tone. Is this direct sound or amp mic?
Man, that Tele sounds sick! What pickups r u using? Are they single coils?
They are single coils, it also seems like he is in drop D tuning to get a meaner sound
Hi. Are you hitting the amp in front with the BE OD or is it in the loop ?
FX loops are not meant for distortion boxes, son.
@@stiffrichard2816 Thanks. Dad !
@Stiff Richard tell that to the boss metal zone!
