So wild to see my dad playing violin in this orchestra. I remember when he shot it and told me it took Liza over 100 takes to get it to her satisfaction.
Don't get me wrong, I love Sinatra and like his version of this song (which was his last top 40 hit), but this is THE version. Liza can really belt 'em! If you haven't seen the movie, check it out, it's an underrated Scorcese film.
Exactly! I mean I love Frank. And...yeah...he can change or screw up lyrics because he’s Frank; he can do no wrong. And when he sings this it’s great fun. But the first time I heard this song I was in a movie theater watching this film. This is the original. This is Liza; this is the best version ever. I’ve loved Liza since before CABARET. I was fortunate enough to see her AND Joel Grey in concert together. There is no one that can touch her performances of big numbers, IMHO. And this is the biggest. (I’m not a gay man. But I’m watching HALSTON right now. And my Liza passion has been reawakened.) 😊💕
@@nhmooytis7058 The first time I went to NYC I was talking to a flight attendant. She and a few other women attendants shared rent on an apartment in the city, because during each month they’d all have flights that started or ended there, or they’d lay over. So maybe a week or so every month each of them lived in New York. (If it was close to either airport it wasn’t in Manhattan, so not AS costly. But you’re only a cab fare or subway ride away.) I thought that would be perfect. Of course, that was in 1986. And I was young. I probably couldn’t afford anything now even if 5 or 6 of us went in on a place. I live in a midsize Southern city. We’re not HUGE, but we’re well known. But a week each month in the greatest city in the world (mayor and politics aside), would be great.
Bravo și felicitări pentru toată echipa de filmare care au realizat acest mare videoclip original din filmul new york, new york cu actorii principali liza minneli și robert de niro în regia marelui regizor martin scorsese. I remember watching this film when I was in high school. One of the best films EVER, very inspirational (but also sad). The acting, singing, everything is absolute perfection Love it so much and I wanna watch it again!!!!!

... *Their own favourite* - the version that John Kander describes as being 'definitive' - is *this* one. John Kander stated this, emphatically on ' Front Row ', [ BBB, radio 4 ].
When this movie came out, I remember the local top 40 radio station ran 3 minute ads that played this song in it's entirety, and the commercial stating that it was Liza Minnelli in the new movie New York New York. So I never saw the movie until I caught it on TV years later. When I heard the song on the radio, I knew from the ads and Siskel and Ebert, that it was a movie set in the 40s, so I always imagined the song was set in a colorful staged setting like in Judy Garland's Get Happy performance, with Liza dressed In an Andrews Sisters-type costume. Although this performance is nothing like I imagined, the staging and the choreography are Sublime and IMHO matches Judy's the man who got away movie performance in it's watching repeatability. Bravo Liza and Martin.
Certain traits are genetic. Liza was never a “bad replica”. I always saw and heard so much of Judy in Liza right from the beginning. I’m old enough to have seen her in her beginnings.
So wild to see my dad playing violin in this orchestra. I remember when he shot it and told me it took Liza over 100 takes to get it to her satisfaction.
mammashane that’s amazing!!!
guauu who is your dad? I saw three. Liza DeNiro and Martin guauuu three genios... I loved this movie long time ago
Did he? Wow
Awesome
@@danfer4412 The little cat with the funny toupe over her right shoulder....Today is the anniversary of his passing, 40 years ago.
This is what it means to give 110%, Liza was always over the top perfect.
The forgotten masterpiece of Scorsese
It’s a very flawed film, with a coherent plot it would have been a masterpiece but as it stands it’s a great exercise in what might have been.
Honestly its probably his worst film , but hey its Scorsese we´re talking about
I don't know what these two other guys are saying, I really appreciate this movie, wonderful film
scorsese is an amazing director and i never noticed he was 5'3 ( And joe pesci, theyre both similar heights to me too )
forgetable film, unforgetable song
Pinnacle Liza, such a treasure. I love how in the universe of the film the song is still titled, "Theme from New York, New York". So meta haha
Don't get me wrong, I love Sinatra and like his version of this song (which was his last top 40 hit), but this is THE version. Liza can really belt 'em! If you haven't seen the movie, check it out, it's an underrated Scorcese film.
She's definitely her mothers daughter
Sinatra sucks! Period!
Yeah, it's my favorite Scorsese movie ever! I don't know why it was panned by critics and bombed at the box office
I think it's one of the best musicals ever
@SUOR ISOTTA E SUOR MARIA SORELLE IN FEDE : That's an imitator not the real Liza.
Liza Minnelli took ownership of this song from the beginning. She’s the best!
I love this movie. Many times over.. Liza shoulda had an Oscar.
Liza I love you❤Best singer ın the universe
The perfection of it, all the history of her and her mom and I'm tearing up. Talk about owning a song.
Judy Garland foi o apse, pena q foi assassinada
Qué emoción terrible. Primera vez q veo esto, voy a buscar el film. Liza, qué mujer maravillosa❤💐
Wow, I love her radiant smile and exuberance!!! I never knew this was her song; I always thought it was Mr. Sinatra’s! I really love Liza’s version!!!
Liza sang this originally
Frank liked it enough to do his own version, and the rest is history.
Oh it's Liza's song.
The song makes me miss the New York City of yesteryear. Sadly, the city is no longer like this.
The unfortunate result of regular folks being priced out of living in the city.
I love this! I have this DVD. I will watch it again and again.
I will never tire of this. Sheer class.
A living legend 🙌 👏 God bless 🙌 this queen of music 🎶
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!
SIMPLY marvellous, what a performance, it gives me the chills!!!
Just amazing.Great performance
Četrdeset pet godina je prošlo,od kada sam prvi put gledala ovaj film sa oduševljenjem , i dalje sam fascinirana ovom numerom i Lizinim izvođenjem.
Liza Minella has been one of the best singer and actress of Hollywood. :D
It's easy to see where her talent came from since her mom (Judy Garland) was one of the very best actress-singer in Hollywood
yet here she can't even act as if she is actually singing her own recording..
@@IMaPeecockwhat the hell are you talking about?
saw this fabulous performer in concert many years ago...sang this song...amazing! Sinatra, this is how it's done
It bothers me that the Sinatra version is used on NYE instead of Liza's perfection.
The original - and by far the best version of this song! Liza makes you want to move there!

A classic. Pure genius.
Major props to the incomparable Liza Minnelli for her rendition of Kander and Ebb's New York, New York. God bless you, Liza.
