Loved these guys back in the day. I’m 72 and I can tell you, we had fun!! We all just danced and danced until we dropped! Lol.
Stevie lead singer was only 17 when he joined The Easy Beats & there is a two part TV series based on them called Friday On My Mind.
That's what energy looks like
When you work for a living you always have Friday on your mind.
The Easybeats were legendary in Australia. At their peak in the mid-60s, they actually outsold the Beatles.
Friday on My Mind was their only international hit, partially because their early records were never released internationally..,
Led singe Stevie Wright, unfortunately, =, had a tragic life, including drug addiction, mental illness, and questionable therapy. He had a bief comeback in the early 70s before relapsing, and spent the rest spent almost 30 years in and out of therapy before getting clean.
The band was organized by guitarists George Young and Harry Vanda at an immigrant's tem0irary housing camp outside of Sydney. After the Easybeats broke up, they became a songwriting/production team, and, in the 80s, released several albums of new wave music that they couldn't get others to do under the name Flash and the Pan.
Among the Vanda/Young production credits were AC/DC;s first two albums. They had the inside track for the gig, as George was Malcolm and Angus' brother.
Wow! What a band. No synths, back tracks.... pure rock n roll!
this music was so beyond its time
%100, we knew how to rock in Australia too ;)
India,Haven't heard these songs in years, just look at the energy. 1965, The Easybeats were the hottest act in Australia. When the Rolling Stones toured Australia in '65 The Easybeats were the support act. At the end of the tour Mick Jagger said, " Man, that group really made us work." David Bowie was an Easybeats fan he recorded a version of Friday on my mind. Cheers, Chris Perry.
:)...looks like he showed Jagger a few moves too.
That is not true. They were never a support for a Stone's tour, 65, or 66.
@@ryoung1519 1967-1969:
Following up "Friday on My Mind", Easy Come, Easy Go and the scrapped album
On 17 March 1967, United Artists released the follow-up single to "Friday on My Mind"; "Who'll Be The One". The single was a commercial failure and did not make the UK charts (although it was No. 14 in Australia). The band was against releasing the single to begin with, as they felt it was not a strong enough track to follow "Friday on My Mind". Later that month, they toured Europe in support of The Rolling Stones. so..... Ainsley was a couple of years out, but he was still more correct than you.
I have an interesting story, my older brother used to work with the drummer of the easybeats, Snowy Fleet, he's a great bloke. The funny part, my brother was a fan of the easybeats, yet didn't know that one of his mates was in the band. I was in the car with him (circa 1995) and friday on my mind comes on, he's singing away, at the end of the song I said to "Jamie, you know that Snowy was in the easybeats, yeah?" He almost ran the car of the road he was that stunned, he went and asked Snowy about it, sure enough he rings me that evening to tell me about it. I still chuckle about it all these years later. My brother is 60 this year, I might bring it up at his birthday.
Everything that came across your little transistor. Radio was absolute fun fun fun! Look at the youthful, exuberance and innocence. That’s the way we were!
George Young's success with the Easybeats inspired his younger brothers Malcolm and Angus to form their own band - AC/DC. And George helped his brothers in the early days with getting them gigs and studio time and producing some of their early recordings. Without The Easybeats, we may never have gotten AC/DC.
chris swann yeah they recorded AC/DC first 5 studio albums in Albert studios.
George also went on to form Flash and the Pan with Harry Vanda, the othe guitarist. These 2 blokes helped ac/dc find their feet. They wrote and produced Yesterdays Hero for John Paul Young. The Angels was another of their finds. They helped so many budding Aussie musos.
I was just listening to "The Easybeats". I was 15 when they first came out ! Stevie Wright was one of my favorite singers Rest in peace
the easybeats was a great band and still sounds great today. to bad they quit after only four years. just think how mush more they could have giving us
i think stevie wright was very cute. his dancing made you happy ,and made you want to dance also
I think I would of crushed on Stevie if I was around in the 60’s
Ahhh, the good old days of The EasyBeats on tv in the 60s
Happy Memories 😊
The rhythm guitarist is George Young (Ac/dc’s Angus and Malcolm’s older brother)
The guitar he played in the Easybeats was later given to Malcolm and played by him for many years in AC/DC!
Also all from Springburn Glasgow , and George along with Harry Vanda of the Easybeats produced AC/DC's early albums
Harry Vanda gave his Gretch Guitar to Mal which Mal always played in ACDC except the big White Falcon for one year
Good Times or Have a good time is very good
First big international Australian band. Founding member George Young (RIP) later managed AC/DC, being the older brother of Malcolm (RIP) and Angus, founding members of that band.
not just big but they WERE the first.
Its my first time hearing them too
I still love "Friday On My Mind" ! It was a big hit here (= The Netherlands). Thanks for posting this one !!
The Easybeats are simply major pioneers in Australian rock n roll. Not only Stevie Wright the lead singer but the Base and rhythm guitarist. Harry Vanders and George Young. These 2 mega Wright's produced were mentioned in Dire Straits Sultanas of Swing they are guitar George and Harry with the daytime job. As well as right for the Easybeats including both these songs they wrote for Stevie wright including Evie 1,2 and 3. This 11-minute song is pure brilliants. Then they started writing and producing for George's little brother's band AC/DC. Vanders and Young were also song by or covered after. Easybeats, Stevie Wright, AC/DC, David Bowie, Gary Moore, Richard Thompson, Inxs, Jimmy Barnes, Mick Furber, Flake, The Wright's, Suzi Quatro, Sir Rod Stewart , John Paul Young, Bay City Rollers, Rose Tatoo, Grace Jones, Duke Jupiter, Mark Williams, Meatloaf. Judith Durham and the Seeker. They produced bands like AC/DC, Stevie Wright, Ted Mulry Gang, Rose Tatoo, Cheetah, William Shakespeare, Mark Williams, and The Angels.
Stevie Wright, the lead singer of the Easybeats, went on to a solo career, hits hit songs of Evie parts 1, 2 and 3 (basically 3 songs together in the one song) is pretty much considered an Australian anthem, if you want something epic to react to :)
Easybeats were an Australian band. Stevie Wright the lead singer looks good in the 60s. I met him in '76. He was suffering from a severe addiction to heroin and well lets say wasn't looking so good anymore. He died some years ago
LOVE the EASY Beats...One of the All Time Great 60's Bands . Greatly under rated.....Love Them Love Them Love Them
Thanks for putting this on. The Easybeats had so many good songs - "Sorry", "Women", "I'll Make You Happy", "Heaven and Hell" "Too Much", "Very Special Man" and so many more. These songs are on RUclips - well worth listening to.
One of my favourite songs ever has irresistible hooks with a manic undervibe. As well as being one of the Eastbeats' two primary songwriters, guitarist George Young was an elder brother to AC/DC’s Malcolm and Angus Young.
Have always loved "Friday On My Mind". I was a kid when it came out.
I was born the year it came out , still love it .
Out of sight, means wow, she she is the best.
the lead singer sang the australian classic Evie parts 1,2,3 7 years later
Cool, not many do this group..... RIP George Young. And Mal. Thanks.
"She's So Fine" was the first hit for the Easybeats in 1965. After 15 Top hits in Australia, they left to go to England in mid 1966, which explains why the clip for "Friday On My Mind" was done for French television. Unfortunately, they never had the international success that they had in Australia, and the group returned to Australian in 1969 and broke up shortly afterwards.
I'm not sure but I think the second performance was from a Show called National Bandstand that Olivia Newton-John and The Bee Gees made their TV Debut on. I sometimes wonder if Australian Executives snuck into America and watched The US Music Shows of that time. American Bandstand, Where The Action Is, Hollywood A Go Go, Hullaballoo, Shindig, Shivaree, The Lloyd Thaxton Show (Who would create Tiger Beat in 1965) and The Hollywood Palace They looked like they copied the Formula. The Ladies who were dancing in back of them were similar to the Ladies who danced on Hollywood A Go Go (whose dancers were Playboy Playmates), Hullaballoo, Shindig, and Where The Action Is where they had professional backing dancers.
Hi India just saw you Friday on my mind video they are a Aussie band his name is Stevie Wright 😊
One of great mod groups. The lead singer has passed away. Its sad cause joy of teens dont have that kind of energy of joy. Soon we will.
Love the Easybeats. Love dancing to an Easybeats cover band. Their music was made for dancing. They were so full of energy. This is here in Sydney, in a studio that I used to see such great music at, but it is gone now and an apartment tower stands there.
so sad that people tear down landmarks , only to put up parking lots
One of the most original guitar backings. Good song! Always enjoyable to watch.
Maybe the greatest one hit wonder of all time
How adorable is Stevie here? RIP
"Friday On My Mind" regularly comes up as the greatest Australian Pop song EVER. It's just pure pop - they just don't make 'em like that anymore! Lots of other good songs as well - try "For My Woman" or "I'll make you Happy"
Mr. Rubber Legs! Very simple songs.....but catchy.
Great song one of my all time favorites
AHH. The age of innocence. Miss the 60's
This is adorable. I've never seen this performance.
I love this performance, it's on a French television show back then. Apparently Mike Myers was inspired by the costumes they wore for his Austin Power films
India if you want one of the best love songs ever written, Stevie Wright (the lead singer of the easybeats) the song : Evie parts 1, 11, 111.
He was mind blowing in the 70's, in a number of way's.
Angus Youngs(of ac/dc fame) older brother George plays guitar for the easybeats+went on to produce ac/dc's early albums with Harry Vanda.
A classic Australian Rock Band. An iconic Australian Rock Song.
One of my fav old school songs!! Instant smile!!
Great band! One of Australia’s many great acts, if it wasn’t for this band AC/DC wouldn’t be here, both the Easybeats and AC/DC are from my home country Australia. Btw they have many other hits down under in Australia! Such as “good times” and “sorry.”
Aoleon * yeah that’s a great one!
Wow, brings back some fun memories of that song.
This is the music I grew up with.
Aussie music at its best 🇦🇺
I forgot about this! It’s groovy!
My teen days 67 the summer of love
It was great tune to get pumped up after work on Friday. She's so fine didn't make. I think they were a one hit wonder, in most parts of the world. I don't think it to them long to write the lyrics on that one. Sounded like they needed a B side. Great reaction India, right on.
Stevie Wright was a fantastic front man. His solo epic, Evie parts 1, 2, & 3 are fantastic.
ooh girl that hairstyle! 😍
Gee whiz Marsha you sure are a groovy dancer
Their faces are great, I would love to hear music by your side.
Oh those rickenbacher guitar sounds! You struck Gold with She's So Fine..holy moly!
Thanks for reacting to this. Stevie Wright’s solo songs are also wonderful.
OMG! I love this! India, check out lead singer, Stevie Wright, in a 1986 special from the Bridgeway ( or Ridgeway). Anyway, he’s gone from a cute kid to a heroin addicted hard rocking Entertainer ( with a capital E!). He messed up his life, but he does both those songs and many more and is sexy in that messed up, sweaty, dangerous looking way. Fun watching your reactions. This kid went on to be a bigggg deal in Aussie rock n roll!
Stevie wright was trying to get help for the heroine.went to rehabilitation and they ruined his life . check out the Stevie wright story. It was a very sad one.. he never recovered from the treatment that he received.just got worst.makes me cry.😢😢😢😢😢 Love you stevie r.i.p😢😢😢😢
Great song by from my high school days
Used to be the theme song to a TV show when I was a teen. And kudos for remembering the shift workers of the world!
Love this one 😍 Haven't heard it in years. Not sure if this group was part of the British Invasion, but yeah, love them. Thanks for the memories 😊
They were Australian
@@joepowell7025 thank you 😊
I was only 1 when this happened, yet I still got to hear them heaps, as hit songs lasted for ages on the radio back in the 50's 60's and 70's.
Australia's father of rock from the 50's, was Johnny O'Keefe and had a few great hits like 'she's my baby' and 'wild one', which Iggy pop did a remake of, in the late 70's.
The guitar riffs for Friday on my mind were inspired by The Swingle Singers (someone else to check out). Despite being from Australia, The Easybeats originally immigrated with their parents from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Holland as children.
Angus Young said that the easybeats Friday on my mind is what influence him to play hard rock
Might be because his older brother was in the Easybeats.
@@TANTRUMGASM wow didn't know that I heard it on the special on ACDC but that's interesting thank you
@@timmurphy7652 it's all good, a trivia item really.....most AC/DC fans dont even know it or the easybeats....lol....Cheers
@@TANTRUMGASM Down under The Easybeats are pretty popular. Young kids even know some of their songs. Very significant to the Australian music scene.
@@TANTRUMGASM Hardly trivia, most ACDC fans would know the legacy of the Young Brothers
When was the last time a guy looked into your eyes and said "You're so fine"?... well I think your smile is so here we are.
You need to view this in relation to the other groups of the time and that music played on television was in its infancy. Look at the early performances of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones on TV. This was the mid Sixties and all of the group were migrants from Britain, Scotland, and Holland who came to Australia in the late fifties early sixties with their families and met each other in the migrant accommodation camps that were used before transitioning into the main population of Australia.
If you can check out The Bee Gees Singing "Spicks & Specks" from National Bandstand.
I only know this song from the film “the boat that rocked “ but the whole soundtrack from that film is brill 😊
India, thank you for the reactions!! You have to try Five Man Electrical Band and "Signs"!!
Stevie was all showmanship on stage
Love your videos. I really love how your whole face lights up when you hear something beautiful: opera or classic 60s pop. Keep up the great work you're doing. You have to review TINA TURNER RIVER DEEP MOUNTAIN HIGH. Lots of love from Canada.
Yes, this from the 60's during the British invasion (spearheaded by the Beatles). Seems they brought over any and all British groups to play in the Hollywood CA clubs. Some were one hit wonders but many couldn't make it in the highly competitive radio market of LA (Payola was big then).
Their an Australian band.
Luv the 60s! I remember the first song.
One of the great bands of the sixties. If you ever get a chance check out lead singer Stevie Wright's Evie - it's epic.
Need more Aussie music reactions. I'd suggest Skyhooks for something different.
Australia's Beatles apparently Stevie wasn't so keen on getting big internationally he struggled with it these guys along with the Saints and The Twilights were some of the best of the era and influencial yet sadly less known in the main
So much talent that influenced so many musicians.
Fun stuff. Another working group, solid hit. It shows up in movies and TV every so often. What get me is the song is strong, and how would it look if performed live in, say, 1985? And the other one? I think you played a medley of their hit.
India, I know that you love Steve Winwoods voice. Listen to him on Blind Faith's "Can't Find my Way Home. BTW, the guitarist on the left helped start this band. George Young, older brother to Malcolm and Angus.
I do have this song and video in my playlist.
If yer on a 60s tip you should check The Honeycombs - Have I The Right, R Dean Taylor - Gotta See Jane, The Merseybeats - Sorrow or Wanda Jackson - Funnel of Love.
In fact do them all!
PS - I love your videos, nothing better than seeing a pure soul vibing to stone cold classics for the first time. 😊
Thank you. Some of those songs from my era!
@@yoliemclaughlin9492 I was brought up on the tunes from this era. ❤️😎👌
I can listen to as these songs without someone interrupting
Nice reaction. Please do Stevie Wrights Blackeyed Bruiser and Evie parts 1 2 n 3
David Bowie done a brilliant version of ''Friday...'' on his Pin Ups album, worth a listen
Agree
Yes it's so good
but nowhere near as good as the original.
Totally agree
You might appreciate Spanky and The Gang. They have some nice songs. Sunday Will Never Be the Same and Lazy Days are my favorite for just relaxing.
Vander & Young wrote a lot of songs for AC/DC and other bands. Performed under Flash and the Pan. Great Musos and song writers.
Well, I like the Easybeats, also they became Flash and the Pan, which I also liked.
Yes, loved Flash in the pan
different era, fun music
that dance in the second song is the shimmy. My sister and her friends would practice..
Hi India. Please react to Lulu - To Sir with Love
Ooohh Stevie Wright
I guess in Australia they were the closest thing to our version of The Beatles. Unfortunately the singer Stevie Wright messed himself up with heroin addiction. He did have a big solo hit in the mid 70s with "Evie". Other members included Harry Vanda and George Young (brother of Malcolm and Angus Young from AC/DC) who wrote and produced hits for many other artists and had some success in the late 70s to mid 80s with their own band Flash and the Pan.
they weren't the beatles, the easybeats were a hard rock band back in Australia especially their early hits.
@@yowodup6094 I meant in terms of being 60s teen idol superstars. The music was not exactly the same granted.
@@KingFahtah True.. but their Australian hits, nothing like the beatles... think about it... the 1960s offspring of AC/DC.
@@yowodup6094 Nothing like the Beatles, that's why The Beatles took note at the time, they respected good music. At the time many fans preferred them
@@Ruby16663 Also when they changed their image and sound to the more psychedelic approach and the release of the album "Friday on my mind" in the US and "Good friday" in the UK which came out just before "Sgt peppers", they were already following the movement in 66/67.
Explore more Australia’s best ever band
The two song writers in the band wrote for everyone Tina turner down
I know the first one well, I’ve been hearing it since it came out, but I’ve never seen that video! I don’t recall ever hearing the second song, and I couldn’t tell you anything else they sang, maybe a one hit wonder? No doubt they’d be played at dance parties back in the 60s!
David Oplinger
Please check out their Aussie hits,
For My Woman, She's So Fine, Wedding Ring, Easy As Can Be, Sorry/Funny Feeling,
also, Sad Lonely and Blue, In My Room, Come and See Her, plus many more.
Their first three albums all original material, all unknown outside of Australia.
Not a one hit wonder in anyway shape or form.
I was 11 and IN LOVE
Ladies: would you rather hear a guy sing about how pretty you are and how he can't wait until the weekend to be just with you... or listen to W.A.P. ?
I recommend Nenah Cherry(don't know if I've spelt her fist name right)
Songs: 7 seconds. Man child. Buffalo Stance
she did buffalo stance.
I haven't come across that one yet
India; you mentioned your playlist. What songs have you discovered that have made your playlist? We want to know!
You're looking spiffy and had a fun song.
George Young on guitar. Older brother and mentor to Angus oand Malcolm of ac/dc fame.
